Saw on X that BL beat Pikeville in finals of UPike 7 on 7 tournament. Anybody got any details? Any updates on the Parsons kid for BL?

I can't wait for the championship rings, jackets, banquet, etc.  The parade is going to be something to see.  I bet they are putting up the road sign as we speak.  It a great day to be a Bobcat!

Betsy Lane has currently defeated Pikeville, Raceland, and Ashland in 7v7 tournaments this year. 2A better be on notice…atleast until they put the pads on.

It’s a different game then and I agree

It is a very different game then, but for a program like Betsy Layne, with its history, it is an accomplishment.  I doubt you would find anyone at Betsy Layne saying that they  could beat these teams in a real game of football, but it is obvious these kids have worked hard and should be proud of their accomplishment.

And give them the confidence to go out there this year and compete with anyone.

100%. Just having fun! Programs that are looking to build something should pride themselves on the baby steps. Keeping one foot infront of the other and getting kids that will go out and compete!
Mountain putty tats going to hell in a hand basket!
Pikeville smoked BL earlier in the day (I don’t think BL scored and Pikeville scored 3-4 times easily and put their JV in) and then had a couple kids sit out the final game due to the heat. Let’s just say important pieces. Horrible pass interference call gave the game to BL but kudos to them for winning it. I was more impressed by Letcher. Their QB was good and they actually ran plays they will run in a real football game like Pikeville was doing. Just glad to see some live sorta/kinda football.

If he does will most likely be in the basketball threads!

This is encouraging. I would love for Pikeville to really step up the passing game this year. Obviously would open up the running game too. I trust the staff and think Pikeville may surprise some people this year.

Big Grin   Sounds like Pikeville needs to get in shape.

Sounds like you weren’t there and don’t know but it was over 100 degrees on the field and most of their guys played both ways. Had nothing to do with being in shape. Don’t know if I’ve ever heard anyone say Pikeville is out of shape considering they play a lot of kids both ways but that’s a take I guess.

Part of my statement was sarcasm.  So Betsy Layne didn't have to play on the same field in the same conditions.  Does Betsy Layne have more depth than Pikeville?

I don’t have to take anything. I don’t play. But I was there and did watch. Kids sitting out because of heat and because of being tired are two different things but go off. And yes, BL did have a player sit out also. A good player. All I did was put out the background of what happened. Pikeville won handily earlier in the day. BL won the final when Pikeville sat a couple players due to heat. There was a PI call late in the game made from across the field. It was poor. Not excuses because it doesn’t matter to me. I pissed off Pikeville people because I said their numbers were down and now I’m suddenly making excuses for them I guess. Some people like to know what happens at the games and I reported it.

Ok Admin.

If I came across as a jerk, I apologize.  I guess as cliche as it sounds, we can agree to disagree.  Good luck to Pikeville.
Betsy Layne pulled off an impressive win against a program with a storied history of success! That's no easy feat, and the team should be proud of their accomplishment. Beating a team with years of experience and achievement takes skill, determination, and teamwork. Kudos to the Betsy Layne crew for their hard-fought victory!

Pikeville always has a very difficult time filling out a 10 game schedule. BL should be confident after their successes and go ahead and sign either a 2 or 4 year deal with the Panthers starting next year.

Next realignment cycle BL could end up in Pikeville’s district anyways.

Gotta say that’s a surprise to hear. You are usually the first one to thump your chest and beat the championship drum (granted you have been right a lot over the last decade lol). But that’s kind of how I confirm the rumor mill and expectations about the Panthers is based upon how you post JP. Hearing that makes me wonder about Pikeville numbers. I do however, think that even with low numbers, the quality of the players on that roster is not going to be an issue.

We played Pikeville my junior year when they entered the season on their winning streak.  They were more of a finesse team as opposed to a Lawrence Co team that was absolutely brutally physical.  How is Pikeville going to be this season?
