i gave this one some time but what are we thinking for pikeville next year? this year did not go how i expected at all i expected them to easily run the table and win state but there were alot of factors i didnt see coming...... with that said i think the 2025 panthers can surprise a lot of people even though you lose 3 big dogs in anthony stanley and caudill as well as the quarterback...... what do you all think???

They are hitting the portal hard, very hard.

Much like Raceland this season, next season for Pikeville may surprise some people.

I don't think Pikeville hits the portal as much as the portal hits them. State championship rings do more for drawing in transfers than anything else ever could. Pikeville just has to focus on getting back to Pikeville football this off-season and they will continue to win rings and bring talent in. Pikeville stumbled this season, for sure, but they haven't fallen yet. As long as Mac and Sully are there then they are still going to be Pikeville moving forward. I look for them to be a hungry Pikeville again next year, which is a scary prospect for 1A.

Looks like another reloading year. A few in the freshman class are going to be a plus. JJ will take the reins as QB and Cooper will be a stud of a backup. Jeremiah will most likely be the leader on defense. I see Cole and Quentin having big roles at wide receiving.
Emphasis will be placed on refining special teams as well as finding a replacement punter. Steven definitely has the leg for kicking, and can practice well enough in the off season to get this position.
1A competition will be tougher in '25, but the panther mindset will continue to aspire and win one game at a time for the city.

This is plum ridiculous. That quarterback that we are losing is mediocre at best, as well as our younger core of players like Anderson and justice filling in those holes that will be left. Learn some ball before you go off smackin your lips

Agree, this team will surprise some people in the upcoming season. No doubt they have been decimated with injuries from day one this past season, but there was something missing. Don't know what it was but it was evident. The talent is there but its going to take some time for them to get to where they need to be. With the coaching staff that's proven itself over and over, shouldn't be long we'll be seeing new championship rings on those fingers once again. There is one frustrating thing I hope to see go away, and that is the keys taken away from whoever was calling those inept offensive plays this season!

I’m excited to watch this team. Jayden Justice RB/LB and Jeremiah Anderson FB/LB both return. As well as Recievers Warren, Slone, Hager, and Fields. Oline lost both guards but will replace them with little to no trouble. JJ Reynolds at QB should be fun to watch as well. Dual threat is something Pikeville hasn’t had in a long time, but will have with JJ Reynolds. Expect the offense to look like the 2018 Connor Robert’s style of play.
As far as the defense goes, the secondary will be loaded with young(er) guys, there will be 2 LB spots to fill, and 2/3 D-linemen return.
This team could be SCARY.

My way too early and extremely bold prediction…. A few things are gonna fall in line that will make Pikeville much more dynamic offensively next year.
I still expect championship standards.

Early prediction for me is Pikeville wins 1A next year.

Can't wait to see Reynolds at QB. Everybody is going to know his name next year at this time IMO. Then Scott and Johnson coming up behind him. Pikeville will have great QBs for the foreseeable future. Like everyone else, I expect Pikeville to be right back on top very soon.

Unless Sayre and KCD can recruit some kids in, 1A will go back to Pikeville and Raceland running things, imo. The Reynolds kid should have got more time this year. With him and Anthony and Braxton it would have made the run game more diverse. But I understand Duty getting the knod.

So does pikeville schedule the 0-6 gauntlet again that crushes all expectations and causes injuries, or understands the RPI is important?
I've been hearing Cal next year. I would like to see:
CAL Belfry Johnson Central Raceland Hazard Paintsville and the 4 worst 5-6A teams with the best records. lol
RPI or not, Pikeville fans would be tortured playing the schedule Sayre played this year.

Clearly you need to schedule a few games that test you as a team to help grow but home playoff games are a HUGE advantage along being healthy as possible at playoff time. We’ve all seen years where the best team in a class didn’t necessarily make it to Kroger. So many things need to line up. Pikeville will be fine next season. They’re still Pikeville.

I seen all year where different pikeville posters would talk about injuries, and they were mostly sustained in weeks 1-4. Getting beat up, especially when you are trying to replace 4 lineman that were huge from 2023, might not be the best idea moving forward. The schedule had nothing to do with the injuries. Zero. It’s football and they had some bad luck. A kid got hurt first day of practice in pads. Another had a hamstring issue all year. Another had a non contact knee injury. Two got hurt on kickoff teams late in the year and not against the gauntlet. All starters who are playmakers. Just bad luck. Anthony was hurt against JC and stayed hurt all year but that was Pike County Bowl and Pikeville usually plays someone tough that game. Two linemen were hurt including their best DE early in the game against Sayre. Those were most of the big ones. Pikeville played poorly this year. Not because of a schedule or a dip in talent but due to a lot of factors that have been regurgitated or suggested repeatedly. They had 2-3 more wins on the schedule. They will be good next year. I really think people are going to be surprised and I also think there may be transfers in that could help. Even with the roster they have, they are going to be a handful. I say that assuming the offense gets fixed.
At CAL may be the first game. Cabell Midland maybe for Pike County Bowl. I would guess Belfry away and Raceland at home are still on there and their district games against Hazard away and Paintsville at home. Haven’t heard for sure about JC or LCA. Also not sure if they discussed a return game to GRC because they agreed to come play at Pikeville last minute this year. That’s still a difficult schedule. I look for them to try to get another winnable 2A, 3A, or 4A team on there. Personally, I’d like to see any of Prestonsburg, Somerset, Letcher Central, Breathitt, Ashland, Bell, Corbin, Sayre come to Pikeville. There was mention of a game at a neutral site halfway with Mayfield last year. That would be fun. I don’t think Pikeville cares about manipulating RPI. Maybe they should but I expect another challenging schedule.

Pikeville will never play a cupcake schedule, so if that’s what you’re hoping for you might as well stop hoping. They want to play better competition than they’ll see in playoffs. RPI is important, but SOS is very important and it shows. This years Sayre team is the only team I can recall that has played a cupcake schedule and actually been a really good team.

Yeah, Duty getting 3 championship rings and taking hits harder than you is what makes him mediocre.

Time for LCA to make the return trip 3-4 times in a row to Pikeville.
