Jennings isn't playing??

Was told he was focusing on football and being an early enrollee in college.

I’m hearing more injuries from football and the same with Davis. If that is true with Neel being ruled ineligible and possible others. APB will be thin and could finished 3rd or 4th in the region.  They have a real chance of starting 0-3. GC, Hazard, and BC being the first three games of the season. Davis and Jennings will heal and be on the floor by  mid to late December I’m sure.
I am by no means a Ashland Fan but I am a realist and i’ve saw them very recently in a closed practice scene and even without neel and others as long as they have Zander Carter they will beat Hazard and Boyd. They have too many good shooters and the best guard in the state. 0-3 is crazy. 2-1 at worst.

Hmmm.. Boyd beat them 3-1 last season. Return 4 starters and are deep. Hazard is a possible win. It’s a 50/50 game but played in Hazard. They will have no answer for Moreno and company. 1-2 at best! Could start 0-3 is a realistic assessment and a fair one.

Moreno was recently injured is what I am hearing. Something to do with his arm. I don’t know how serious or how long he will be out of the lineup, though.

One starter is in a boot and rumored to possibly be out for the year. And I'd love to hear more about them being "deep", because I feel like their bench could be a liability this season.

As i’ve said, i’ve saw this team in action very recently in a private practice and they are way better then last year. Boyd County don’t have an answer for Moreno and only lost by 3? Make it make sense brother, this Ashland team will start 2-1 or 3-0 mark my words.

Well with all your rumors and knowledge of the kids and the program it seems You have all the answers. Why don’t you enlighten us on the APB and their vast experience and depth. Watching the game on Fox I saw 8 different kids play vs GC.

If we are going off rumors. Rumors are Jennings and Davis are not playing at all. Neel is currently ineligible and rumor has it so is Hoskins and Smith. If that is the case. 1 starter returning Z. No real varsity experience to speak of. I guess we will have to see.

Must have been a heck of a practice vs Paintsville! Make it make sense to me! This thread makes no sense. Odds are more 3-1 that BC had a better probability to winning state. If APB lost to Lyon Co by 2. BC beat APB 3 times last year out of 4 games. Then BC probability of winning state g state is higher. 0-3 I or best 1-2. APB had an inside presence last year with NF. The team doesn’t have any this year.

They lost by 2 to Lyon County in the first round of state and should have beat them. Zander Carter is the best overall guard that the state has to offer. The whole team can shoot and they have tons of depth. I seriously think they can win the state tournament. Thoughts?

I think they are very good top 5 maybe even top 3, but I think Great Crossing , Trinity are a little better and maybe even St. X and Male. A good indication for the Tomcats will be Monday night at Great Crossing I will be there for that one.

I saw Ashland play today without davis and jennings who are both good pieces and they looked pretty good. They can compete or even beat Great Crossing especially if Boyd about did because this Ashland team is levels above boyd even without their 2 starters out. For anyone to say they are going to lose to Boyd or Hazard hasn’t watched basketball. Hazard didn’t impress me at all but I didn’t see that Evin Eversole play for them. I still didn’t seem impressed with them and I can’t see them being considered a top 25 team in the state. Like i’ve said Ashland AT WORST will start 2-1.

GC will beat APB by 15-20 points easily. APB has no inside presence and doesn’t rebound well. BC killed them in the post. Sperry is very out of shape or was playing sick. He stood bent over majority of the game. If BC was in the 16th. They’d be in the bottom just above 2-3 teams. That was not a good test for a scrimmage. Either was Paintsville. Hazard played Newport who is a very good and athletic team and lost by 8. That’s without Eversole. Who is their guy. The big Hazard has will give APB fits. BC played Adair who is Present #7 returning 7/8 seniors from last years Rupp team. BC tested themselves in both scrimmages with #1 and #7 ranked teams in the state.
APB was not impressive at all. Outside of Carter. They struggled offensively and definitely are not very deep. To make a run at state they are going to have to improve vastly. That’s with Neel who is currently ineligible.

Ashland was impressive, that’s the worst they could’ve shot and they still played well. I was wondering how they would do when shots weren’t falling and they still put up 80 and looked good while doing it. Hazards big will not give them fits at all. He didn’t score against Newport, all he is out there for is to complain and rebound. I’ve watched him enough to know. You must be a Boyd Co Fan. No matter how good Boyd is they can’t ever show up when it matters. Ashland has one of the best shooting teams in the state and has IMO the best guard in the state and possibly the best player in the state.

Hazards best player is a big who was not in attendance due to an illness. If Breathitt countys big gave Ashlands Problems then Eversole will dominate the paint.

When Jennings and Davis comes back that’s 2 strong guards who will help guard some of their stronger guys so Zander can match up with the other teams big. Zander is taller than Eversole and will play good defense on him. They shoot it too good to be beat by a Hazard Team. Newport wasn’t a good shooting team and was missing their 2 best players that were on the bench sitting, so you can’t take the newport game into account too much. Hazards decent don’t get me wrong but I wasn’t that impressed at all and even with Eversole it don’t make them an amazing team or a good enough team to compete with Ashland. You can run a zone on them if you want and shade their better shooters but Ashlands up in your face defense will cause issues with Hazard. Hazard was sloppy with the ball at times. Come back to this post in April when Ashland is the 2025 State Champs.

Ashland has one of the best shooting teams in the state and has IMO the best guard in the state and possibly the best player in the state.

Obviously you’re easier impressed with your team than anyone else outside of APB. Hazard is 10x better the BC and Sperry was either sick or just out of shape and has no help at all. The bigs got to the rim and shots easy bunnies. They just missed and would get their rebounds and put backs. That is how they stayed in the game vs APB. Outside of Carter. No one else made shots consistently vs a very poor defense yesterday. A lot of turnovers from the guards (which is all they have) no inside presence. If Moreno plays (if not injured with his hand) and the other big they have will dominate them in the paint. Hazard with Eversole and the other big will be problems. BC big and guards who play big will give APB problems. You obviously are wearing rose colored glasses. That’s if you do have all 6ft and under guards back. Like I said. 0-3 or best 1-2 if they shoot it well in Hazard.

I agree with those two returning that will help the defense that was lacking yesterday. That will put two guys on the bench that started yesterday. With the return of those two. Who goes to the bench? Lalonde? Smith? Hoskins? Clark?

I think Clark and Smith.

Any further news to the rumor Jennings isn't playing?

I heard that he was on a visit to Arizona for Football and that’s why he wasn’t at the scrimmage.

I heard that he is playing. He is banged up or possibly injured right now (shoulder) no definitive diagnosis. Davis I heard will be back 3-4 weeks. Lower leg injury. Hearing Jennings dad is lobbying him to stay in Arizona with him to get ready/train for college football. Both are difference makers on defense side that is lacking with the current guards.

Can Ashland win state? Most definitely…I’m going with a sleeper pick this year though in Woodford County
#51
I think Ashland has a shot to win State for sure. Are there plenty of teams that can knock them off? yep. But they have a good core group that return from last year and good role players around them. They are well coached and and have good depth on their bench. Carter is one of the best players in the state and lock for 1st team all state. Can take anyone off the dribble and he will make players around him better. But they also have another great team in their region with Boyd that has the players to knock them out in region. It is going to be a fun year with lots of good teams to watch here in the 14th, 15th, and 16th regions. might get to catch some in the 13th but its a little far to get that way. But I 100% think Ashland is capable of winning state and I hope their game tonight with Great Crossing is live streamed somewhere.

Does anyone know if the Ashland game will be streaming anywhere tonight? Looking for it to be a big matchup of two top 5 teams in the state.

If Jennings and Davis are playing, yes. If not, no.

The new kid from Russell is the definitve best guard on that team and it isn't even close.

How was Menifee?

After the smoke has cleared wonder what HOOPFAN thinks now?
