Awesome, I haven’t seen a Yeti since I was squirrel hunting deep in the Daniel Boone National Forest back around 1997. My dog had treed a squirrel and I was looking for the thing; all at once this big gargantuan knocks me over a bluff and runs through the woods laughing and jumping….. I never saw it coming, but I’m glad he was in a “playful” mood.

From the sounds of things if some of the kids at Russell were a little more welcoming that recruit would have stayed up on the hill.

RAD- are they just throwing job applications away at the mini mart, now?
NOOOO! You don’t have a son who plays football! No job for you!!!!

Yes- of course, I’m kidding. Playing up RAD’s “tongue in cheek” running commentary that jobs there are the secret to the recruiting efforts!!!

I hate it for the kids at Berea not getting a win all season. I really do.
I'm a former Berea Pirate myself. Graduated in 1986 and finished ball in 1985. We were never very good. I saw 1-10, 1-10, 2-9 my first three seasons. We at least got a win each year. We had in our district, Paris who was winning state championships at the time pretty regularly. Harrodsburg, who always had a Yeast or a Dunn on the team and would compete with Paris somewhat. Mercer County (Pre Harrodsburg merge) and they had a kicker that year that could hit from inside the 45 going in. Garrard County who was ranked top 12 Class A as well as Madison High School from Richmond who actually beat Paris that year in a major upset for the district title.
We just put together a good run my senior year. Finished 6-5 after being 6-1 at one point and ranked #13 in class A at one point. A guy or two got hurt mid season and we didn't have any quality subs. Thin ranks. That's Berea, thin ranks...always.
But, the year after I graduated, I remember that the boys that were behind me told me how Raceland wanted a game going into playoffs that year where they lacked one for some reason or another. They paid Berea to come up to play late in the season. This was the fall of 1986. One of coaches for Raceland came to the head coach from Berea before the game and called him to the side and thanked him for agreeing to the game. He then told the head coach from Berea, Harold Borders, that he wanted to apologize in advance if Raceland ran up the score somewhat during the game but that there were several colleges there recruiting the Raceland players and that they wanted to put the Raceland boys in a good light recruiting wise. Borders, the head coach for Berea, then went into the locker room and informed all of the players of that conversation. The Berea boys went nuts. Berea won that game. I don't know the score, but I remember them winning and seeing one of my old buddies out later and asking him about it. At the time, I didn't know much about Raceland and he told me the story.
Berea will likely get crushed, should get beat, but my personal opinion is you NEVER overlook any team. Berea was like 3-7 at the time. Raceland overlooked the Pirates in 1986.
Go Pirates!

He wasn’t there long before he decided to explore other options lol
And no, I’m not saying Russell is a bad school. But it’s situations like this that should allow kids to go where they feel welcomed and comfortable and not have to go somewhere based on their address.

He was there about a week
6’7” 270lbs and we’ve already taught him to say I hate Pikeville! They worked him out the other day hitting some pads and stuff and he said “when do I get to hit somebody .”

My son is one of those seniors at Berea. It's easy to sit behind a phone or computer and say don't play the game because everyone knows what the outcome will be... but for these boys that I have watched grow up, it is one last chance for them to put the pads on. How many would give anything to do that? How many parents would love to see your kids play just one more game? All of us who have been there realize there is a last time for everything, so quit being arm chair coaches and trying to take that away from any of these kids.

As a parent of a former high school athlete, I would give a $1 million to see him play again, even if his team is expected to be blown out.

I raised sons, and I would pay NOT to have to watch them have their teeth kicked in again after the kind of season Berea has had.
Maybe we just have to agree to disagree.

Man this one was hard to watch. I was glad to see Berea break the long score, regardless of who it was on. Starters, 2s, 3s, 4s, or water boys. They had -60 yards of offense at halftime. This is the thing that bugs me the most about these games. I really hope people don’t look at this score as “running the score up”. Because the starters began getting pulled early and often. Raceland had three consecutive one play drives, all 3 were hand offs up the middle to either a Freshman or Sophomore. Berea had some really special kids though. From the jump, they got smacked in the mouth, absolutely pummeled at times. But they kept getting up and showing the upmost respect. I have a lm 8th grade son, who is 5’7” 125 and is be willing to bet that #7 and #9 were smaller than him and at times THEY TOOK A BEATING. But they kept getting back up. So to the group of 20 Pirates that came to Ram Stadium tonight, hold your heads up. It’s not easy to take that type of beating and keep getting back up and maintaining the attitude that you young men did this evening. No disrespect, but Berea should deeply consider dropping out of district play for a few years and try to build things back up a little bit. It’s worked for a lot of programs in the past. But again, hats off to the Pirates. Especially those who took their last snap of football tonight.

Like I said earlier, I played at Berea and we took our share of thumpings. Loved the game. I instilled that love of football into my two boys. They both loved it good enough to play four years of college ball each. Good luck to Raceland from here on.

Glad to see Berea show up and play but with that being said……if you are a winless team you shouldn’t be in the playoffs.
