Agree when we played them it was clear he’d quite on his team and then was involved in an argument after, don’t think it was his fault but clear the frustration had taken over at that point. Just seems like he needs to step away and hit the reset button, maybe come back in few years or take an assistant job somewhere

I worked in three prison systems and retired from the federal prison.. New guys have no seniority and almost no say on what shift/hours they work, unless their job is outside security and even then its still tough.. I took me years to get away from shift work, .. Even after I was promoted to a job with to day shift and weekends off , you still end up covering shifts and working overtime.. Its not a job where you can just tell the boss "sorry I have practice".. Don't work like that

Summer ball is about to begin and if a coach has had no contact with his players, it all seems to add up. Just hate it for the kids. Getting a new coach going into your senior year. Can't blame them for jumping ship.
Where they going?
Estridge- Martin County
Keathley- will be gone depending on the hire.
What about Allen, Napier and Ferrell?

Seemed to have been pretty well known that he was expected to take that prison job. Several people that I have talked to said they'd either knew, or heard something about it. Heck I heard it all the way back in mid January, and had a feeling that if it was true, that the dynamic of their season would change, and it definitely did.

Have it from a good source that the summer ball schedule, and off season program that had been put together has all been canceled, which would be a strong indicator that the coach is no longer there, even though that hasn't been made official yet. If that is the case, why just up and cancel everything? Leave it in place for the next coach, the summer ball schedule at least, bc it's going to be tough to get into team camps the longer this drags out. I understand maybe moving around any practice schedules so other teams within the school can get more gym time to practice. If Chase has no intentions of coming back, he needs to let the administration know, or maybe the administration needs to find out, if they haven't already. It really seems like this is being handled poorly by both sides.

This is earlier than usual so I’m guessing Ricky Thacker is hearing the same noise and wanted to make Chase decide now instead of dragging it out. I hear it’s unlikely Chase will sign up. I know a couple that will and either would be good for the longevity of the program. We’ve been spurned by two young coaches who had zero ties to Prestonsburg and you simply can’t make it a 3rd. Get someone who wants to be here and grow the program. You can still choose relatively young AND have ties to Prestonsburg and be successful. Let’s see if that’s how it plays out. I imagine those around the program will apply a lot of pressure on Ricky to make the right decision after how the last basketball hiring process went down.

Mason Hall has won every level he's coached at and is the type of coach that could get kids to come out for basketball and has a talented player that will likely be at worst, all District next season, possibly all region. Both of those coaches are fairly young as well. Didn't Tackett already retire from teaching? How much longer is he planning on sticking around?I appreciate that but I won’t be applying this time around. Well I know we been running strong and haven’t seen Floyd Central or Prestonsburg make an attempt at giving their players an option to play. Well haven’t seen the Coach step up, he sold out in Febuary that’s why kid from Floyd Central and Prestonsburg has been playing Summer leagues with us. Credit Mike giving them kids an opportunity. How many Coaches has Prestonsburg been through in last 5 years BC4LF, I figure you know? No way I’d keep a child there after what’s going on in that program, and don’t blame any that jumped ship, the program doesn’t seem to be doing right by the players
To me best option would be Brandon Kidd but why would he leave girls program when they finally have a shot to win it. Get it figured out, them kids deserve it

Why would Brandon want to leave the girls program? He’ has winning seasons every season and has no heat or expectations for the most part year after year. He’s in a perfect situation as an Assistant Principal with a low stress coaching job. I’m not giving that up to move to a boys program that’s anything short of a dumpster fire.
04-29-2024, 02:09 PM
Why did Brent Rose leave Prestonsburg for? Hopkins also left Betsy Layne fairly quickly, I've always wondered what happened in both of those situations, and would that make Prestonsburg think twice about those guys.
Brandon Gearheart is an intriguing name in all of this. I thought he did a great job with the boys in the one season he had, and I never understood what happened there with him either. Seems like these coaching jobs don't seem to have much stability. I do know Gearheart wants to coach and he is younger than those other three, so stability would be there with him, plus I would imagine he'd have Justin Allen back as an assistant and he would go a long way towards getting the pride back in Prestonsburg basketball. I hope Gearheart gets that opportunity again.

Yeah if I'm Kidd I want no part of it. He's proven he is a great coach, and has done incredible work with the girls program. I'm sure he has had several opportunities for other jobs, but he's remained loyal, and he is so well liked and respected too, don't see him leaving the situation he is in unless he is does on his own, or gets an offer he can't refuse elsewhere.

Yeah it definitely makes a difference where he's assistant principal there. Always thought there was something in place where you couldn't coach and be in administrative role at same time, may be wrong on this but that what I'd always heard.

As for Brandon, I agree, he’s also a good candidate. Had one season where he had a winning record and the players loved him. I was on his staff and still to this day none of us really know what happened to cause the change.
All I can say is that any of the 3 above get the job, Prestonsburg will be fine and I’d be open to helping. I have a good relationship with them all and feel they each bring qualities to a program that needs stability.

Since Hall is gone from there, he may apply at Prestonsburg. Which would bring his boy, who could be a good player there. I believe he played elementary there as well.
I believe Hopkins is the elementary coach and may be interested.

(04-29-2024, 05:13 PM)-STAT-I will and you got do whatever you got to do which is keep spreading rumors. Hope we get to meet some day. Your welcome to any of our open gyms or summer games. Hurting kids by spreading rumors you are sharing from your "SOURCE" is not really adult like nor is it funny. Thanks for letting me know. I will let Coach and Coaches know to cancel open gym tonight and the rest of this week and the Summer games we have on schedule. Appreciate the info. Please thank your source me.
lol you're more than welcome. You do whatever it is you gotta do.

Just seems like he needs to step away and hit the reset button, maybe come back in few years or take an assistant job somewhereFacts and truth. You want to discuss it I can. But not allowed to on this page. It was not his fault and it was after a kid assaulted one of his players after the game. Facts and truth.

Hall transferred his kid to Prestonsburg during the summer last year and when he found out he wasn’t going to be asked to be an assistant, he went back to BL.
He may be a good coach but he wasn’t what the kids that are currently with the program needed to succeed. He wants to run a Henry Webb style offense. And rightfully so. He played for Henry and what Henry did was fun to watch. But when you have a group of kids that shoot around 28-30% from 3, the last thing you want is a run and gun Raider ball offense and that’s what he ran. Again, I’ve made it clear I have zero issues with Mason. He doesn’t like what I have to say but it’s not a criticism to say you’re not a fit at a certain program with the style you want to run. I’m sure he’d be very successful with programs like Floyd Central, JC, or other high octane offenses. Prestonsburg doesn’t have that type of players. Yes, they need to play fast but on the defensive end leading to easy transition buckets. If you expect this group to beat teams with perimeter play, might as well prepare for a pink slip.
