You left Ironton off the list.

I ask again…did the state of Kentucky not pass whatever bill everyone was discussing back in July stating that transferring players have to sit out 1 year no matter the circumstances?

No…I believe the law states if you don’t physically move into the district you have to sit out a year. If you put your kid in a school before his freshman year and you live out of district it’s fine but once they start their varsity career and you transfer without a address change I believe you have to sit.

HB 563 states that any player that transfers from out of the school district must sit out one year. But, if the student transfered before July 1st, 2022, they are grandfathered in under the previous rules.

And if im not mistaken, the law includes students of ANY grade, that have participated in interscholastic atheletics, in which a school competes against another school, must sit out 1 calender year from their enrollment. But again, it is in affect as of July 1, 2022.

That's what I remembered in some articles I saw over the summer.  If that's true and that bill takes precedent over any KHSAA rules, then all of the transfer talk in the future is done.  That's disappointing as it makes the message board more fun. Smile

I doubt any players or parents are willing to sit out a whole year, though, in order to change schools. If anything, it will just send more kids in our area across the river to Ironton,

Its a weird thing for me. With so many "what the hell"? Issues, i cant even see straight. But thats for another time and place. Back to the matter at hand...

What once was Prestonsville or Paintsburg University, travels up 23N to take on The South Greenup County-TriState Holdback High All-Stars (my last stoke on the fire i swear...until its not). This is The battle of the teams everyone loves to hate.

The new helmets Paintsville have been wearing. Black and Blue. Thats fitting. It will match their rear ends after Raceland is done kicking it this Friday.

I found this link that explains things pretty well:

https://khsaa.org/06-13-22-bylaw-8-repla...rs156-070/

As best I can tell, this just throws up another legal roadblock for Kentucky players who want to transfer after they've already been on another team's high school roster. It's probably not impossible given some lawyer involvement and carefully planned changes of residence and/or divorces, but it is risking a year of playing time if all the I's aren't dotted and the T's aren't crossed. Specifically for our area, I would think that any high school players in this situation in the future will just head across the big blue bridge to Ironton where simple residence rules are all that exist. Look for the price of rental property in Ironton to increase.

Also, this doesn't appear to apply to players under 9th grade, so Coach Jason Mays can still scour the middle school ranks to build a super team for the roundball Tomcats in a few years. His advice in his call is still applicable. And Raceland can still hold JFL nights for all the local schools to show the parents and young prodigies what their school has to offer. Perfectly legal.

Anyhow...as Scotty said, Paintsville isn't in Raceland's league this year. The Rams will win big Friday night.

Now RAMDAD50 you understand what I mean about winning is a bitch people start their whinnying Raceland recruits or transfers what ever you want to call it holdbacks and get family members as referees and any program that is winning it’s the same crap but winning is contagious and kids what to be on a winning team no matter what the sport. Me I think that is between the parents and the kids not us posters and yes these guys have a right to their opinion if they think it’s wrong now the state has gotten into especially the county part of it is losing some money to the independent schools and probably is true but let the kids play and enjoy their time in high school because we all know it ends to fast and all these is just memories anyway but good luck to Raceland and Paintsville in their game and hope there is no injuries to either team but as always GO PANTHERS!!! I did get a good thread going through
On a serious note, I really have no issue with a child that lives out of a district but has attended a school system all their life. I can get that.
But this is my own personal opinion and that’s it, when you leave a system just to be part of a winning program, you leave behind not only friends , coaches, teammates, who have all counted on you and help to try develop you throughout the years. And in probably every situation you have counted on them at some point. The game of football teaches young men more about life than any other sport. I just personally feel that one of those lessons should not be, hey I think that place is better for my personal situation so I’ll just go there. It’s got to be bigger than one kid. You learn how to be selfless and not selfish.
That’s just my own two cents. So you guys can let me have it, but that’s just how I feel

Hahahaha and I am loving it GO PANTHERS!!!

So being a Panther fan makes you oblivious to the amount of transfers that make you guys successful? And you want to call us "transfer city"? SMH

It’s nothing new Pat. I played at Raceland almost 30 years ago and it was the same then. Greenup people would alway cry…..thinking we was bringing in a new team every year haha. I believe we had two kids that transferred in when I played. One of them was the coaches nephew and one kid was from California but he never seen the field. I done a roster check years ago and I believe the Raceland had five transfers in a ten year span hahah. I mean I could understand everyone’s point if we had a ton of transfers and 25 state championships but damn hahah we do good to win our district. It’s kinda sad when people can’t beat a program in football they yell cheater. It’s a sad sad world we live in. I mean I always got beat down by northern Kentucky teams and I never once thought they was cheating. Let them cry Pat….they hate us cause they ain’t us !!
Beagle...i will give you this much. I see where you are coming from. Loyalty is something too often squandered. At the same time though, I am a contractor. And if two companies are offering me a job, Im going with the one that is going to provide me the opportunity to be the most successful. Thats my gripe with people being tore up over transfers. As long as they are done within the guidelines, then whats the deal? Lundy sat out a full year of varisty sports when he transfered.
I guess I’m just old old school. Always wanted people to know they could count on me. Always felt like to be a part of building something was always better than joining something. One of the biggest problems of this great country is that it’s all about me and mine. And to hell with everyone else

Unfortunately that is the culture we live in.  I think loyalty to a school is all but gone due to travel sports and kids playing on teams together all year regardless of where they go to school.  This isn’t so much with football but it is so in the landscape of all other sports.   I look for the the pay for play travel sports culture to kill high school sports eventually.

I agree with this cause I’ve said the same thing before. But….like you stated …..what does it say about the player that leaves a program and his friends behind? If you you mean this statement then why attack the school where the kid transferred to? That makes no sense to me. I don’t see Kentucky people attacking Ironton over the amount of Kentucky kids that went across the river, why is that ? All of this transfer stuff will be over with in a couple years. I don’t think it has anything to do with Raceland. I just think Raceland is the only school in the area that has done major upgrades to their facilities and it’s easily noticeable from 23. I don’t believe a kid always transfers because they want to. It’s usually their parents pushing the issue. And something that blows my mind is …..Raceland could get 10 baseball players and 6 softball girls, 6 basketball players and a couple of track stars and nobody would say anything! Why is that ?? Why is it always football?? Hahah

I’ve said for years it’s time for club sports. Separate athletics and education all together. We don’t need to have some coaches as teachers. If they wanna coach then that’s what they should be doing. Now I don’t mean all coaches so don’t jump on me for that hahah. We all have had a coach as a teacher at one point and known for a fact that they shouldn’t be a teacher. Let’s do club sports and be done with all this

On the flip side of this I’ve also seen (and been coached by) coaches who were only there because they were forced into coaching to get a teaching job.  The result of this is usually inadequate instruction and having a team that struggles to win at best and injury risk at worst.
It’s almost official visit Friday!

Well hopefully there are some linemen on this trip cause the cupboard is pretty bare after this year
Yea, enough of the soft stuff.
Raceland sux
Lol
The only thing good to do in Lloyd or Paintsville is LEAVE!!! Id say something about the family trees not forking very much in Johnson and Greenup County, but Im a product of both lol. Maybe that explains alot!hahaha
Page four of this thread and no Taintsville people on here. Have you guys given up on football?? Where the hell you guys at ??
They are somewhere pumping up basketballs and getting the gym floor stripped and waxed Id say!
Wheres ol Blue-Balls? Tiger Blood? Floppy Melon Chitlin'. Hell 64 even kept it interesting.
With their absence it makes me think they came over with the Pburg crew and was never true Tigger fans
Geez, enough with the whining about transfers, bunch of cry babies. Every school has them. Who cares how many or where they came from. It’s the world we live in today. “If you build it, he will come.”

The Hams have gotten the best of the Tigers the last couple of meetings and they returned pretty much their entire team from last year. The Tigers have struggled this year with a tough schedule. Things don’t get any easier in this one. Hopefully the Tigers can pull off the upset of the heavily favored DisgRaceland Hams.
