Seven, actually...and only one FCS (1-AA to the older generation). 👍

Western was 1A then?

Below is what I know of from Belfry, there may be 1 or 2 more possible...

David Jones - Kentucky (2005)
Austin Dotson - Kentucky (2016)
Cole Bentley - Louisville (2016)
Cameron Catron - EKU (2016)
Rayquan Horton - EKU (2016)
Jordan Scott - EKU (2016)
Rick Kestner - Kentucky
Irv Dotson - Marshall
Tony Messer - EKU
Taveon Hunter - MSU

That 2016 belfry class is probably the best class in the history of mountain football. It’s for sure the best offensive line ever assembled. As a Redhound fan I hated to watch them against us. It was a thing of beauty to watch against everyone else though.

Apparently so...kicker Monte Merrick signed with WKU in the spring of 2009, and that same fall was Western’s first year of D-1 bowl eligibility.

Rick Kestner had a great career at Kentucky back in the day, RIP. Had his number retired at UK and played a bit in the NFL.

Irv Dotson started several years at Marshall on the Line

Tony Messer went to EKU before quitting football a few years ago

Taveon Hunter to Morehead State last season

I expect Rash and Wolford may have their shot at D-1 off this year's team.

Did Russell Carter end up playing D-1? Does anyone remember?

Belfry's Flem Bodad Varney and Gene Phillips both played at Marshall. Both suffered career ending injuries. Obviously, back in the day, Marshall was 1-AA.

I forgot Hammer Williams (UL) from sometime in early 70s.

I totally forgot about Hammer, too! Played for the Jackets 1974-77–I think ‘82 was his senior season with the Cards.

Prestonsburg has produced a few D-1 football players. Off the top of my head I know of the following:

Larry Morris- Kentucky
Jeremy Caudill - Kentucky
Nathan Leslie - Marshall
Seth Hyden -EKU
Michael Burchett - Kentucky\ West Virginia
Dewayne Garza - Morehead State I think this was the last year MSU offered scholarships.

I'm sure there are more I do not know about.

Not from there but hasn’t Lawrence County produced quite a bit of D1 players.
