The rumor I heard is that with Boyd County building a new school, there has been talking of combining Fairview/Boyd County.
Anyone heard anything related to that??

The two schools are not geographically close to each other. It is close to 15 miles from Fairview High School to the site for the new Boyd County High School, and Fairview serves a small community called Westwood.

About 10 to 15 years ago, there was a rumor that Fairview might close its doors (including the grade schools). At that time, I think most people would probably have sent their kids to Ashland Independent Schools, which is much closer to Fairview.
All in all, I don't think Fairview and Boyd County would combine the schools, but if Fairview would close, the kids would probably be distributed between Ashland, Boyd, and Russell.

Based on Camel's posts that I have read, I think he is probably from closer to the middle of the state, rather than our end. He probably doesn't have much first hand knowledge of our area.

I lived in Ashland, off and on, for a few years. I do now live in Mason County, hence why I only really post when it comes to the Royals.
While I can't say who I heard it from, I didn't know if anyone had heard something as well.

Okay, that does make sense that the kids would get split up and I hadn't heard that there was talk several years ago of this happening. So at least IF it does happen, it's something that has been discussed before.

I think perhaps you may have misconstrued the coaches migrating from Fairview to Boyd. That is the only consolidation I think seems likely

Fairview is much better in athletics than Boyd County right now and doing well with enrollment. No closing the doors in Westwood.

Well, you know you're always welcome to come back.
If you lived here for a while, then you already understand my point about why most of the students from Fairview would probably be split between Ashland, Boyd, and Russell.
I apologize for making assumptions about your knowledge of the area.

I don't know the area that well, I just know some of the surrounding communities and so forth, but by no means got out enough when I lived there to know all the ins and outs.
I did like the Ashland area, but much like Maysville, there really isn't enough here for me to stay once I finish college next year. I need 24 screen theatres, strip malls everywhere and so forth. I got a chance to see Mayo play in 7th grade and even though the rivalry isn't the same as it was in the 90's, I did get a chance to experience a Boyd/Ashland game a couple times and it's truly amazing that even when both teams are down or not as good, how seriously people take that game.
I have a friend who still lives in South Point with her husband and to this day, their nickname, the Pointers comes up in conversation as one of the better high school nicknames I have ever heard.
As for Kentucky, I think Briar Jumpers is the one best one I have heard of here. I LOVE that nickname. lol

I feel really sorry for the Seniors, who have been caught up in the political mess the past couple of years at Boyd County. A change in the top of the program seems like a pretty good idea.

Hicks, Cooksey or Rick Griffith?

From what I hear, interviews have begun, probably the biggest name that I have heard is Randy Anderson from Lawrence Co.

Whether or not he goes to Boyd County I would just like to say that he is an excellent coach and an even better person. We have been blessed to have him here at Lawrence County and we hope he stays here.

Anderson has been offered the job. Decision today.

Anderson told his team this morning that he was leaving....A sad day in Lawrence County.

Is this a rumor or fact?

Fact

If this post is true then I would like to say that Boyd County is getting a great coach but even more importantly a better man and family for their community. We here at Lawrence County will not be able to replace this man. He has built our program from nothing to a very good team year in and year out. He is a person that will be sorely missed in Louisa. I for one am a better person for having known him and his family.

Very impressed that BC was able to lure Randy Anderson. Also very suprised that Anderson would leave LC knowing that he would have a good chance at winning the 15th region. The deal must have been sweet
