Betsy Layne 2010

Excyter, great job with the grade school. Not sure what that reply mean? You got a great run going, do you have a chance to 3-peat?
#33
It is the same ol talk year in and year out. Betsy Layne suprise of the year! Jon Parsons the greatest coach of all time! I think you guys need to quit hyping up the program and just let the kids play. And as for Parsons accomplishing so much for Betsy Layne, thats bull. He has had two back to back seasons with 3 wins. This season BL could have easily had 7 wins with the weak schedule that they put together. In games that the score was within 7 Betsy Laynes record was 1-4. Betsy Layne had one of the most dissapointing seasons in the mountains last season. They had the talent to have a record breaking season at Betsy Layne. Dont blame excyter for not wanting to put his young players through the same stuff. Why would any one send a player who excels in football to Betsy Layne? I still dont see how the coaching staff was even selected. They have two to four coaches all who have never suited up for a college football game and I dont think any of the coaches played more then two seasons of high school football and some not even that. Forgive me if im wrong. I would love to see a program like Betsy Layne become a huge sucess story get turned around and have a couple 5,6,7 game win seasons and make a deep playoff run. I just dont see it happening any time soon though but good luck to Betsy Layne and Jon Parsons on the upcoming season. I wish them nothing but the best of luck.

As a coach and former Bobcat I wish them all the luck in the world! Keep working boys! I wish I was right there with ya!

saints52, I understand what your saying. But do we understand where this program was 10 years ago. They were lucky to win one game, the fan base was horrible, they got beat by pburg by like 90 one game, year after year of head coaching changes. And we always here rome wasnt built in one day but its getting the foundation. Also, I think ALUM said it earlier, when the job was open during the summer the applications consisted of red and lincoln bentley. They gave the nod to red because he was there and had coaching experience at betsy layne. Is red the coach of the year, probably not BUT we need to sit back and enjoy the bobcats this season. Lets quit being negative. Every year you hear what, "this year is the cubs year in baseball, or this is the year for the SAINTS, oh wait this was there year. So maybe this year is the bobcats year.

Was this year disappointing, you bet your but it was, BUT was it exciting, did fans leave during the 1st quarter like they had in the past, nope. Give this kid time. He is still learning the game. I also see in the middle school forum they are getting flag football started.WOW, thats a true step forward.
#36
Lets just start here, red is my cousin. I would do anything for him. He has coached the bobcats for 3 years. He has done a lot of first at betsy layne and hope he will do more. I would also like to say the grade school has done things they havent ever done, but it does hurt seeing a cartoon character like that up there. I think we all owe red some respect for his hard work. Coaching is hard nowadays, I think he is going to be great coach. Maybe not now, maybe not next year, but give him time(he might fight me for that comment, if someone tells him) He dont get on here, he dont diss any teams. He is just trying to do the right thing for the football program. The reason I talk up about this program is because I felt like I had something to do with this program. I felt like I put out a block in the foundation when I played for red my first year.(thanks sherriff for the rome comment).
Lets just root for these kids and hope that they continue to move forward and a faster pace.lol

REZ, you are a true fan and Red is lucky to have you and your son part of the bobcat family.

First of All, I want to wish BLHS the best of luck! Lots of talent on the hill, and lots to come!! Coach Parsons is trying, I guess! These post on here are showing the true colors of the parents!! Back Bitters!!! TRUE... The parents need to unite and make a go of the program, not straddling the fence!! David has been straddling.... He was wanting to get rid of Coach Parsons now playing the role of giving full support to Coach Parsons and the program!!! I dont blame Coach Wise for any decision he has or will make.. Coach, this shows me you dont let it bother you that ppl act childish and show their stupidity!! This ignorance is the reason why, kids choose not to go to BLHS!! I mean really, grow up and act a little more mature!!! btw... we all know that Coach Wise was not out coached by Coach Howell, and maybe, just maybe.... More games would have been won on the hill, if Coach Parsons would have listened to him and Coach Spencer!!! Enough is Enough, focus on the future of the program and stop your bellyaching!!
#38
listen to coach wise and coach spencer? Their grade school coaches. They have 0 years experience at the high school level before this year. I think we need to be careful what we say rookie. It might bite you in the butt!

High School and Grade school are two total different levels. A lot more film work, implementing a scheme for the week. Maybe coach parsons would have listened but coach wise and coach spencer didnt even finish the season out. They quit before the season finished. Is that setting a good example?

Has someone said something about Tyler Recznik? Just assuming, because I'm pretty sure if someone did, they wouldn't mind discussing the comment with his mother, who would take care of it ACCORDINGLY WITH PLEASURE!!:redboxer:
#40
Nope, just glad to have them in the bobcat family.
#41
this discussion happens every year. and at seasons end, same result every time.
lol

mister basketball, i hate when people say it. And if you look back in this thread, you hear it alot. What team dont expect to win every year? Do you think we should come on here and say "its not going to be a good year" of course not. Lets be smart.
While I am at it, let me say this Red is not going anywhere. Lets root these kids on and if you are not going to BL, root that team on. Good luck to them. We need to realize these are kids.

Back on topic
Whats everyone's predictions for the 2010 season?

I will give mine later.
#43
From an outsider looking in...the only thing that I gather is people on this board find it hard to believe some of the far fetched numbers, statements and predictions that are said on these threads about BL. But only to see the same product every year. Personally I would love to see BL do well, I think from what I read they want to succeed...hopefully through perseverance they will. Maybe this next year they will improve on what they did this past...remember bobcats baby steps. Don't get the cart in front of the horse. Good luck.

I hate all the negative comments. A program consists of all coaches, boosters, players and community. When someone is negative towards any one of the areas it affects all. When kids get on this site and read negative comments about coaches it can affect their outlook on "their"program. Why not praise a program, if someone is truly wanting to build a positive outlook on a program it is a must. As far as the comment about listening to coach wise and coach spencer, I would love to hear their advice. If this advice was good enough to affect this seasons outcome so greatly I think all coaches would love to hear it.

Good post Betsylaynealum.

Just wanted to put a post on here, last one I will be typing for a while.

Bobcats work hard, I know spring practice is around the corner. For the naysayers, lets try to build up this program and support everyone around it, for the kids, coaches, and community. This program has been the lowest of the low, and I know people are going to type, well they should have won, yeah maybe, but this is a new year. The sky is the limit. Anything can happen if you have enough devotion and strength.

God Bless!

With this flaming schedule I would expect BL to finish the regular season with 1 loss, to Pikeville of course!

Bishop Brossart-I picked this as a win last year. I won't make that mistake again. The Bobcats lose after a long bus trip.
Burch-Bobcats win esily
Jackson Co.-Bobcats win in a close one
Magoffin-The hornets will win. I missed this one last year also.
Phelps-BLHS gets 2nd win
So. Floyd-Close game but the Raiders get the win
Paintsville-I think the Bobcats will win
Pikeville-Put this one in the loss column
Allen Central-Graduation hurts the Rebs. BLHS gets revenge win a win
Jenkins-The Bobcats get two in a row.
Final record 6-4. Not as optimistic as last year, but will be a great record if this is how it finishes.

I think Hawg, Brossart is at home again. Bobcat Bowl game.

This season could be a descent season with 5 wins or it could be as great as 8 wins. They are returning a lot of their players, so I think it could be somewhere between there.
Lets hope for a great season!

Good luck bobcats
#57
If the Brosart game is played at Betsy layne then I think the Bobcats have a great shot at winning it, but they need to be ready. The Bobcats have to play every down like it is their last, and they need to do that the entire season.
#58
I agree hawg, you sound like you know the team pretty well, or seem familiar. What kind of offense do you think they should run?
#59
I'm an old man so I'm old school. I would run the wish bone. I would break formaion and line up a slot on occasion and pass and run out of both formations. About 75% run.

My stance is, whatever offense the Bobcats run. Stick With It!!!Run variations out of your primary offensive formation. Don't change the whole offensive scheme week to week. It makes it tough on the players trying to run a new system each week and will have the same results as last year.

A piece of advice for any coach reading: The worst decision is indecision. Have faith in yourself and your players, and tune me and the rst of the armchair coaches out.

Best advice yet...can't change offenses every year or worse every week. Kids can't get comfortable with plays when they don't have the same ones from week to week. Good luck to the Bobcats.
