I agree with that, as you notice a lot of NFL teams are beginning to do that with young coaches and being somewhat successful. I think IF you dwell so much on whether someonoe has HS experience over someone who has had success in middle school, nothing wrong with that. Unless you take this guy over someone like Roark who has had great success at the high school level.

I can't believe someone actually made a post bashing Bobby keith.. thats just ridiculous.

Lets just say Roark doesnt accept. Who are some other coaches being seriously considered? Is any assistants going with Browne to Madison Cent?
02-05-2010, 10:26 AM
Have heard Roark supposed to of made a decision this weekend and let them know. I have also heard, they have asked some of the teachers their to be his assistants. Probably a done deal, but no announcement has been made yet.

Flashman Wrote:I like what MT Warrior has to say. Personally, I would just like to see PCC get a coach of Mike Holcomb's caliber. Someone that would make PCC a football powerhouse year after year like the Bobcats of Breathitt. Bert Browne made some good strides, but we need someone that will pick up where he took off and take it to the next level. PCC has the talent to do just that too.
We're lucky to have someone of MT. Warriors' caliber posting on this site and sharing his thoughts with us. I just wish people would be careful about accusing someone of saying something if they really didn't. This is a very respectable site and people like him should feel comfortable in posting without what they say being taken out of context.
Coach Holcomb is a heckuva p.r. guy...and was smart enough to let JP Chapman do his thing. Coach Chapman built up the football powerhouse at SMS and followed them on up to BCHS. How many state championships did Breathitt Co. win before JP arrived on campus? How many did they win while he was at Pikeville H.S.? The answer would be ZERO.
It's amazing what Coach Champman did in only one year at Pikeville (I believe he would have won a state championship in his 2nd season had they left him alone) and the impressive playoff run they made in his first season at Pike Central.

Roark would probably make a dandy coach at PCC. I saw where someone questioned Bobby Keith Dixons character. Bob Dixon is a great guy and probably the best baseball coach in Eastern Kentucky and I know for a fact he'd make a **** of a football coach. He was a **** of a player along with John Carroll.

I have to agree with that.....
02-05-2010, 03:37 PM
I think they should just turn the field into a soccer field, they have some great players that play and they deserve a little more than having to play on a baseball field.

What is wrong playing on a baseball field? It's not baseball season......

By "character" I mean Christian character. I know PCC is not a Christian school, but I would like to see PCC get a good solid Christian man for a coach. Lots of other public schools have them. From what I have been told both Coach Hatcher and Coach Holcomb are Christian men. I don't know if Randy Napier and Estill Neace are Christian men but they have evolved and developed over the years into very good men with good morals. I think they are very good for PCC too. That's the main thing that has made PCC a better school over the past 10 years or so is a good core of teachers with Christian fundamental beliefs. I know for a fact that the superintendent is a born again Christian too. My mom and dad go to church with him...smile.
I look at K-12 sports and even college sports as being a part of the development process for young people to grow into better men and women when they become adults. Some of you may say that it is nothing but X's and O's but a man of faith can have that too plus God's blessings on his life and on the team as well as the entire school. Our schools need that more than anything these days. American needs to get back to its roots....the Christian faith and principles that built this great nation. Good sports coaches can make a big difference.

I agree. Coach Hatcher and John Paul Amis recieve a lot of flak but they've both helped me a lot and are both very good men!

Well, I tell you, one should never judge another on Christian values. I really don't trust anyone! Look at our world, our country, look at the people who do evil........ How many are these supposed Christians...... People like you really irk me..... I truly believe in GOD, do I live a "christian" life, nope, but I do believe that one day I will be judged by someone, but it will not be YOU!
I would let my kids play for BKD and would not have a problem. I will tell you this, your wrong about this coach. I have know him and his entire family all my life, you do not, do not find any better people.

I value Christian character in a coach. Obviously some people on here don't. A person is either led by the spirit of the world or the spirit of God. The Bible says that those two forces hate one another. I'm a big Pastor John Hagee fan and like Pastor Hagee says a person is either a "sheep or a goat"....or in other words a person is either a child of God or a child of the devil...it is as simple as that for me.
I could care less what a heathen man thinks about the matter. The Bible says if a person is not saved or born again they can not even understand the word of God...they are in spiritual darkness. They are blind to the truth in God's word.
As far as "judging" is concerned the Bible says that the true believers will actually sit with Christ when he judges the fallen angels so it appears that I might actually have the pleasure of being there when the heathen are judged and I am definitely going to use the Holy spirit that lives within me to judge or determine who is good for my kids to be around and who is not.

Flashman, I appreciate I parent like you. Win or lose, give God the glory. If you have not watched the movie "Facing the Giants", I recommend it for you. God can do so many things if we just let him in to our lives. I know this is not an evangelical site, but I have to back up a brother in christ because to many times we are criticized. Coaches, build men of character, faith, integrity, and honor and success will be there, maybe not in the scorebook immediately but it will eventually. One of Vince Lombardi's 12 rules that he posted was; BE PROUD TO BE HUMBLE -Strike the balance, flex your ego, but share the credit, and always give God the glory.

Your going to make a great coach somewhere MT Warrior. I sure would like to see PCC get a guy like your self. With the talent they have and a leader like you the possibilities would be endless. There is already a lot of good Christian folks at PCC starting at the top.
I remember Pastor John Hagee...who was a good football player himself back in college....said that a guy brought a gun into his church in San Antonio and he told Hagee he was going to kill him...John Hagee looked at the guy eyeball to eyeball and said "no weapon formed against me shall prosper"...the guy fired every bullet in the pistol and every one of them missed Pastor Hagee....actually making an outline of his body on the wall behind him. He said there was a local young guy that played college football in the audience that tackled the guy so hard that he knocked the handles off the pistol. It's all on audio tape too.
When you got the Lord on your side nobody can defeat you. I've had this big brother named Jesus since I was 14 that always takes care of me. Kids need to be taught the importance of having a relationship with Christ. There would be a lot less divorce, child abuse, and suffering in general. My wife had to die from colon cancer before she would accept the Lord, but the good news is that she did. The night she died she told me Jesus is with me and its time for me to go to Heaven. She was happy and excited...the Lord was with her strong....she had no fear of death.
PCC needs a coach that understands that its not just football, but developing young people to be their best in life! The Bible says if you put the Lord first that God will add everything else to you...like success, championships, ect.

John Carroll was a really tough running back. He reminded me of John Riggins. Especially his senior year he was on another level. So how well has your middle school team done John and how long have you been coaching middle school ball? I remember Mike Holcomb saying that SMS middle school was the key to Breathitt's success. He said they were taught so well in middle school using the same offense and defense that they can just take a recent middle school grad player and plug him into a position and they are ready to play.

There is a lot of verses in the Bible that could be used for inspiration, knowledge, insight, ect. for a football team. For example, in the NT it says that "If you are going to race then race to win" and it also says I think in Ephesians "The stronger a person becomes the better soldier they can be for the Lord Jesus Christ. There's a lot of good Proverbs that pertain to work ethic too....and just other good insight like "A person makes the bed that they have to lie in" and "You reap what you sow". There is also some verses like in the Book of Isiah or in Psalms that could be used to give a team the nerves of steel before a big game.
I love how the word of God can be incorporated into everyday life and its just simply the best strategical foundation a person can have. That's why they call it the "Rock of Ages" is because God's word is just as true today as it was 30,000 years ago or 30,000 years from now. So of course it can be used to make a great football team and build great young men in the process.

Would it bother you to quote verses from the Koran for the Muslim players on the team?
02-08-2010, 11:28 AM
As long as it was positive of course not. To each their own. That's one of the biggest reasons this country was founded in the first place....freedom to practice one's religion how they choose. One thing that does concern me about the Muslim faith though is that the Koran teaches that Muslims are to either convert or kill all non-Muslims. I wouldn't want a Muslim extremist on the team to toss a grenade into the weight room or anything of that nature. That has happened a few times with Muslims in our military. I went through Army Basic with a guy from Syria that read the Koran every night. The drill instructors kept a close eye on him and told us to report any suspicious activity from this guy. He had already been to medical school before joining his home Minnesota National Guard Unit. He got paid as a warrant officer while going through basic due to his education. When we did the bayonet training and the drill instructor would say "What makes the green grass grow?" and we were supposed to say "Blood, blood, blood drill sergeant" but the Muslim guy would say "water, water, water."

Any updates on the coaching search?
02-08-2010, 02:13 PM
I would think that Perry would want to have a coach announced by the end of this week.
I don't think they want to drag this out much more. IMO, I think it is Roark's if he wants it.

Not heard anything yet, supposed to of made a decision over the weekend! I'm sure when it is announced there will be an announcement on WYMT and parade with fire trucks and everything escorting Coach Browne out of town and bringing in Roark and family.
02-08-2010, 02:52 PM
Have heard through the grapevine that he has turned it down and has decided to stay in Middlesboro, must of gotten some good news at home over the weekend to keep him their or something! I guess PCC will have to move on to choice #2! Any ideas who that may be????
02-08-2010, 03:01 PM
Had Perry interviewed anybody else besides Roark????
Would they ever think about hiring from with in? Maybe Coach Prey or Coach Combs?
Maybe bring Duff or Chaney back?????

Have heard they had asked Coach Chaney and Coach Duff to assist Roark, Duff turned it down and I believe Chaney was thinking about it. Who knows what will happen with Combs and Pray. They need to try and come up with something quick.

I agree they need to act quick now. With all the young talent Perry has, They would hate to lose some.
