I'm well aware how tough the 7th, 9th and 11th Regions are. No disrespect to any Regions in the bottom bracket, but I'm very happy those three will beat each other up.
I think we can all agree it will take a little bit of luck or just a horrid off night from Clark County for the Royals to win the 10th this year, IF they even get to the 10th Region finals.
Rivalry aside, if Clark represents the 10th, I will be happy for those kids and the tough loss they had in the Region final last year. Whether it's the Cardinals, Royals or anyone else, the 10th has a great shot to play on Saturday.
Why wouldn't Mason make it to the regional???
Agree rivalry aside, I always support the 10th region in the state tourney. Remember when these teams went: Mason, GRC, Pendleton Co, Bishop Brassart, Montgomery Co, Harrison Co( 1998) that was a heart breaker for the Cards, and Fleming, under the late Lake Kelly.
Always want the Mountain schools to do well too.
Believe that GRC has the best chance of the other teams in the 10th to do well in the state tourney. Again no knock on the other teams of the 10th, but being GRC is rated as a top 5 team in the state, and with their height, talent and the draw. It looks favorable for them to make it to Saturday morning.

They pretty much have one being in the 15th.

Still have to play the games though. Anything can happen!

Yeah I think Lawrence County will be the team to knock 'em off. You agree?

It was sarcasm.

Going by the power rankings listed in a earlier post, I believe it would play out this way if these were the teams to make it all...though Ballard and Trinity I believe are in the same region along with a few other top 10 teams. Really would like to see the State of Kentucky go to a 32 team NCAA type of tournament so all of these teams would have a chance to play in the state title, just let the Regional tournaments be auto bids...but anyways...
1st Round
Bowling Green
Ashland Blazer
Ballard (Could very well be Trinity)
Shelby County
Holmes
Christian County
Scott County
Corbin

i think shelby valley will do very good at state this year, maybe father then last year.

If everything plays out as is (no upsets in the regional or district tournaments), then out of the Top 10 tens in this weeks rankings, Shelby Valley has by far the best draw. Games however still gotta be played all across the state and these teams have to punch there ticket to Rupp, but something really needs to be done about the boys Sweet 16 because the last two years one side of the bracket has been absolutely loaded.

I agree...I think it's kind of ridiculous the way the sweet 16 is set up. Very rarely do the two best teams in the state tournament actually meet.
If not Lexcath upsetting Scott Co in the region tournament last year, Sc and Holmes would've met in the second round after being the top 2 teams in the state all year.
This is why the state tournament should be seeded. JMO though.

Speaking of last year, if you went by the Courier Journal Power Rankings going into the Sweet 16 last year, Shelby Valley was ranked 1 in the state, Mason County was 2 and they played in the first round. Valley then played Elliott County in the second round which was ranked 3 in the Power Ranks!
I think the state has honestly out grown the Sweet 16! Give us a NCAA like state wide 64 team play off with the final four or the elite 8 being played at Rupp!

I don't think we've outgrown the sweet 16...I just think there needs to be a few changes.
I say let the coaches around the state vote on the top 8 teams and then do a blind draw with the other 8 to get your match ups. This way we atleast attempt to get the two best teams in the state championship.

The draw also keeps them from having to play Christian Co too who is also going to be in the upper bracket as long as they win the 2nd.
I'm predicting that either Clark Co or Shelby Valley comes out of the bottom bracket and makes it to the state championship.
I realize Iroquois is also down there but I don't think they're as good as Central was last year to make it to the state championship. I could be wrong though.
McCreary Central is another team to watch in the bottom bracket if they win the 12th. They have one of the best players in the state with Aaron Morris.

Is the sweet sixteen going to update their site or anything? I would really love to see the bracket so I can hang it up!!!

This happens every year. All district, regional, and the state tournament should be seeded. I don't think it will ever happen.
01-30-2010, 04:19 AM
Until they do that I guess we have to hope and pray that our mountain teams get as far away from the Louisville teams as possible.
01-30-2010, 08:33 AM
Not a bad draw for the 14th region. I think they (Perry or Knott) can win the first game. I would love to see Knott and Valley meet in the final four with a rematch from the WYMT championship! Knott has enough talent to get there but lack defense and an inside game. Perry plays smart with what they have and plays good defense. Whoever makes the dance, I think we will have a good showing this year from the 14th!

Not an overall bad draw for the Mountains (13th,14th,and 15th). I think both 14th and 15th have a really good shot to win a 1st round game but 13th drawing the 11th wasnt really that good , that prolly being Corbin I dont think they'll not knock off Scott Co or Lex Cath or whoevers wins that 11th region but overall I like the Mts chances to go down an win a game or two and earn a little more rescept through out the state
