Great game. I didn't have a problem with either of the SV guys on this board. They handled the postings with class and would only snap back when a LC fan would say something. They showed that class on the field tonight when no matter the circumstance they continued to play hard while some of ours wanted to jaw back at them probably for the post on here. LC is for real and if it wasn't for some great tackles by SV we would have seen even more long runs by the Dawgs. How many ankle tackles did SV make just prior to a LC back having tons of daylight. Loved seeing the ball in the air tonight both threw the pass and the point after kicks. Heck has LC even had 7 PAT kicks in a season much less in a game. This is only going to build confidence in our kicking game just in case we ever do need a FG in a playoff game again. Keep up the good work and get ready for East Carter.

Well I know one thing nobody is going to say that Shelby Valley is the best team in Pike County! but as far as the game goes I thought Valley looked like a decent team in the 1st half, but when the 2nd half came around I just think the talent of the depth charts started to show! Valley did play tough, and I didnt see nothing out of tackett?? and i did see roberts score a TD late though on a reception.
The only team that I think can beat is Rowan, and as far as Winfeild? there just an average WV team! Id say we will beat them, but we cant get the big head and have to treat each team the same, anybody can win on any given night

Red Seal,
I think your correct from what I've seen so far out of Winfield is that we shouldn't have to hard of a time. They don't appear to be nearly as good as years past. Rowan could be a worry but I think LC will take that one as well. As far as our friends across the river if I'm correct Fairland, Ohio handled them last week while Sheldon Clark blew Fairland out tonight 47 to 21.

LC also made some good adjustments and caught SV off guard a couple of times. I think the threat of the pass really helped to open up the run in the second half. Also we can't forget the TD that LC lost due to the holding penalty and then turned it over on downs in the 3rd QTR. LC outscored them 35 to 7 in the second half and it would have been 42 to 7 if not for that holding call.

Tackett had a bunch of tackles. He was also making some nice blocks to open the running game up in the first half.
But how about Lawrence County? Coach Salmons has done a incredible job. They played inspired football. Kiser made some really nice throws in the 2nd half. I hope LC can keep working on the passing game because they will need it in the playoffs.

Guys what people dont realize as well is that we had 3 boys sick and that would have been our QB our TE and our fullback in the 2nd have started getting sick and still played as well as we did...
Ok guys all you here on here is how good our offense is but the kids on the D side of the ball dont get the same talk... First off hats off to Turner, Wade, Blake, Travis, Steven, Cody, Lucas Peck, Blake Shaffer and Jacob Marcum these kids just shut down the high powered rushing attack of Shelby Valley oh and Sheldon Clark.... These kids never get much hype after a game because it takes the coaches time to break the film down to get the number of tackles..... Also our special teams play has been just in simple words great....

Way to go LC, Congrats on a great win.
Batpuff I picked the score to be 45-21 in favor of LC. I thought we would jump all over them and their scores would come against our JV. Boy was I wrong. Were you impressed with their two linebackers. My hats totally off to them. For one half they played us to a standstill. Our offensive line just could not move them. Hats off to our boys for finding a way in the second half. Larry west showed on his TD run that was called back that he was easily the fastest kid on the field. once again Pack boomed another punt. In 31 years we naver have had a punter like him. I think we did what a 4a team will do alot of times to a 2A school. We just wore them out. SV was really tired going into the 4th quarter. Lc was getting stronger. We have not even come close to playing as good as were going to play. Great play calling too. Going deep on 4th and 2 was so cool!!

I was told that he is only a Sophomore? Wow, that guy plays hard every play. #5 Turner Obrian is a very good player too. Also, I can't believe the Schaffer kid is only a Sophomore. He is a playmaker. Jordan Lyons gets after em on every play too. The LC defense made a statement last night. That's for sure.

I agree with you on this one. The D never gets any credit and they played a Great game once again this week. This D is only getting better each game too.

Dawgs looked go in this! SV really was one dimensional with only a couple shots down the field. I thought that it hurt them with really no mis-direction or keeping the defense honest with a couple QB keeps. Really like #10 and #35, thought they really done a nice job for SV. LC just had to many horses and weapons, Larry West is a great addition to the team. I thought also that Kiser was really throwing the ball well and locating it where it needed to be. Good win for the Dawgs shouldn't be to tough next week either.

Congrats LC, the Dawgs are for real this year. What has cause the major turnaround from last season?

In my opinion it is simply coaching and work ethic... Not to mention the ridiculous schedule played by LC last year. All the guys on this team have played against the best of Eastern KY, and learned from it.

This year our kids are starting to believe in them selfs. This is the kind of schdule we needed just to get us thinking positive agian. and a few good wins will sure go a long ways for a team. I hope it doesn't really hurt us in the playoffs but at least this year we will deserve to be their and IMO I think we will make some noise this year come play off time. LC has a ton of talent and it looks like the coach is useing it pretty well . GREAT job goes to the kids and the coaches.

They have done such a great job this year... I dont think they ran much to Miller's side last night.

Can we get some individual stats from the game?
09-19-2009, 02:32 PM
Valley has a good 2A football team and will win a bunch of games this season. The running backs are solid, but the guy who impressed me was the quarterback, Varney. He is athletic and tough and plays like a senior should.
In reality, the Bulldogs should have led this game by at least three scores at the half. They had much more yardage in the first half than Valley, but SV's defense would stiffen when necessary.
There was NO conditioning issue for the Bulldogs and there certainly was a speed differential, but it appeared to be the reverse of what everyone predicted. SV could not catch a 230 pound fullback, a 4.7 wide receiver or a sophomore kick return specialist.
SV did appear quicker at the line of scrimmage, but that is not where speed kills. Speed kills in space and LC had that in a variety of forms and made SV pay over the course of a full game.
That said, the key was when Valley scored to cut it to 28-14, the Dawgs got the huge KO return by Lance Clay.
My hat is off to all the kids from Valley. They have the second best team Lawrence County has faced and I believe they will win the majority of their games handily.
Last night simply spun out of their control on the strength of big plays by a big, physical, skilled and hungry football team. But also a team that better not get so used to singing its own praises - that can be poison.

i agree with sc could not catch a 230 pound fullback, but the receiver josh mills runs a low 4.6 high 4.5, i also again with them singing their own praises

I dont se how it should have been 21-7 at halftime. I know without a doubt we were very fortunate to be up 14-7. lets give credit where credit is due. They shut us down in the first half and they controlled the clock. They had the perfect gameplan up until the tipped pass right before halftime. Have to Give LC a huge thumbs up for their second half performance. They looked like a completely different team. We looked very sluggish in the first half. I would like to see the stats for the 1st half. In the first half SV was the best team in Pike county. I really really was surprised at SV.
09-19-2009, 03:26 PM
This game let us know we have miles of work to do to go very far in the 4a playoffs. I think coach sammons has made adjustments at haltime of all our games and no coach in the state has done better in that aspect of the game. Batbuff mentioned we had 3 or 4 players that were sick. It did seem like we were a step slower than previous weeks. i thought it was SV's speed but now Im thinking it was 2 things,,their speed and us not being at 100%. I thought larry west's TD that was called back was a play that no LC back in the history of the school went that distance to score that fast. He looked like a pro back against high schoolers on that play.
09-19-2009, 03:55 PM
I think SV was very good in the 1st half and I think Coach made great adjustments in the 2nd half. However, how can anyone compare their abilities to a study group unless you've witnessed that entire group? We still have a large amount of improvement needed but LC is back this year its just a matter of how far back.
