It seems like Boyd always gives Russell trouble! I think Boyd co has a good game but comes up short once again! I think Russell wins a very close ball game.

will be a long night for Russell if coaches continue stupid play callin!

Well that's how the play calling has been for 20 years, but I just think they are not strong up front this year and don't have a true game changer in the back field...they got decent players, but not what they've had, but I just think Boyd COunty has too many mental obstacles other issues to even compete in this game, but it has been competitive game the last few years.....hopefully will be again

Agreed, the wing t works when you have a very strong front 5 and a back that can make a game changing play at any moment but this year with average backs and a "weaker" front 5 Russell needs to go to the previous weeks game tapes and make some changes. If they don't, it will be a very long season for the Devils. Ashland does a great job of keeping the defense on their toes. Not sure who the offense coordinator is for Ashland this year but I was very impressed with his call selction agaisnt Russell.

Russell can call QB sneak every time Friday night and should be fine against BC, but when they play Mason County...that will be a different story

Boyd County is better than what people realize..right now they are just making a lot of mental mistakes....if they can fix that they might be able to make a game out of it, but even if they work those kinks out, Russell will still win by a couple of TDs :flame:

I just feel like the Devils are too much for the Lions....they have 2 starting lineman out and starting rb....bunch of kids with the flu...and they weren't deep to begin with

Any changes in the Russell lineup against Boyd County?

None that I've heard...i don't think russell will change too much from what they've been doing....Boyd County isn't Ashland or Ironton :flush:

Russell has struggles with the Lions. But they will prevail. There will be no changes. Even tough there needs to be some. It won't happen.

Russell needs to watch for Boyd taking advantage of any defensive deficiency's they can find. In 05 it was the quick sideline pass before Russell could cover. Boyd continued that pass at will & won the game.

the inside zone with brennan sargent gave Russell trouble as well...BC ran that down their throat, ironically BC ran the ball more than they passed that game, russell's blitz was neutralized all night that game....Coach Morris had a good scheme planned, but Boyd played out of their mind..Boyd went on to be 5-5 and Russell went on to win State...maybe losing to Boyd isn't so bad, but Boyd is a Veer team now and I just don't think they will be very productive against the Red Devils....the O-line can't pass protect what so ever.....Russell just needs to do what they do and they will come out on top :devilflam

Don't think its the same at all. Jones is doing the bulk of the calling now and it shows. They don't set up plays like they used too and I have not seen the counter in years.

Not sure of their exact starting line-up, but I know the Davidson kid needs more times touching the ball and if he is not starting on defense he sure should be. the White-Reed kid needs more touches too. I am still thinking that Speaks at QB and Dehoff at RB or even FB is the better mix. Other than that I know they lost a kid who was not seeing any playing time. I had heard that kid who is #1 was going to be real good but haven't seen much from him. Maybe they are hiding him for districts!!!

I wouldn't say Jones does the bulk of the calling..he calls a lot of the plays, but Ivan still doesn't where a headset and sends a lot plays in from his gut...he's old school...not saying he doesn't listen to jones, but if you watch him...he still sends a lot of players in with a play w/o even looking at his assistants..which he's always done...he's play callings no different than has been...its just the players are different....And the wing-t offense itself sets up the plays...you get 4 or 5 plays all of the same motion from the backfield.depending on what direction they are going....Russell doesn't have a solid line this year so it makes it hard for any play to work....The Devils just aren't as good as they've been in the past, but the last 2 weeks have been against much superior opponents...Boyd County wont fall into that category TongueirateSho

The last 2 weeks have been rough..ashland and ironton back to back....the plays will get better is against lesser opponents, but they need to get something going for when they play mason co. :ChairHit:

Your right Mason will be the team to beat ,they are getting plenty of hard knocks getting ready for the one that counts.

Really doesn't make any difference who is doing the calling, McGlone is head coach and is responsible for calls. The calling is crazy sometimes. Last week against Ashland Mcglone was calling something from the sidelines and the team didn't know what he was talking about.

I have to say this. IF the team had no idea what he was talking about there is something wrong. The offense is not that complicated. I think you are selling these kids intelect a little short.

Every week different lineup. By the 4th game there should be basically the same lineup. Not sure why they are not using some players in different places, but again I am not a coach, just a opinionated spectator. I think there were some issues brought up about play time with some kids. You will have that when coaches have kids who play.

I personally like Dehoff at QB best.

When I see the kid that wears 53, reminds me of Foster. Cant wait to see him next year.

This team is 1 of the slowest Russell teams off the ball I have ever seen. Why?

Its not the kids intelect, try the Coaches.

Coach McGlone has more football knowledge in his little finger than you and I and everyone else on this message board put together. Yes, he is very conservative and yes the Wing T is not a flashy offense. It is amazing to me how Russell fans complain about the play calling when the same plays won a state championship and almost a second consecutive one only 3 years ago. The play calling hasn't really changed in 30 years but the talent level does fluctuate. Just like at every other school.

Couln't agree more....i remember during that state chmapionship run in the playoffs against mercer co. and belfry...fans complaining about the play calling...and i was thinking this is why you all win 10+ games every year....it's not the coaching...it's just the talent level has dropped....it goes in cycles like that....russell has jacked with their feeder system the last few years and i think they are trying to get that back on track, but they'll be back....even a down year like this year...they will still win at least 6 games probably 7, not bad.....that's a tribute to coaching.....Ivan has a winning a record against all the area schools....i'm not gonna question what he's been doing....Boyd County isn't good...they will be fine Friday :worthy:

The feeder system is now unjacked and on track moving full steam ahead. Things are going great.

Sad too, he busted his tail for fours years and got kicked off over saying 1 little word. Seems that some can get by with things ,whereas others have a short leash.

Could not agree more. With kids that went thru this system. Ivan calls plays that the kids have no idea what he is saying. That is when the QB should run the best play he knows to get yardage.
This senior class when they were 8th grade & freshman had 24 players on it. What has happened cause they are down to 12 senior players. Most of these players were lineman also.
