I hope the Devils well but I think the Tigers will be too much for them. They also go on the point system so no calling off the dogs if they go up by a few TD's.

No disrespect intended but I think part of what makes Ironton great is that so many people believe they can't beat them. I'm not saying Russell should be the favorite here, they are not. But everyone always seems to fear Ironton so much. Sure they are good. They are a big, strong, powerful team. But I would never go in thinking I didn't have a shot. I might not win the fight but the other team would sure no they were in one.

Congrats on the win over the Musketeers. Everyone thought it would be a close game.
Everyone thinks the Tigers can't be beat. But this group has been waiting for this game also. Just hope the coaches are ready. Russell will make a respectful showing. The D-Fence is looking really good, and the offence is coming around. Some changes need to be made on the line. The backs got to wait on the hole to open up then cut and give the burst of speed. Jones is running the ball very well. Just keep your head in the game. Hutchinson needs to be moved back to center. Marr is big and strong but is strugglin on containing and sealing his block.
Russell will make a good showing. :devilflam:devilflam:devilflam

Anything can happen on any given night the Red devils could pull the upset anyone can be beat. I think this will show Russell where they are and what they need to improve on this season to play with some elite teams. G/L Russell bring a win back to KY with you.

that's admirable young padawan!
There's no fear at Ashland they just happen To have our number for yrs. as a player You should go into the game believing your going to win, As a fan you have to know there is more than one reason they haven't played in so many yrs? An it's not just schedueling they quit playing for a reason I would imagine there's not to many in the win column! It's not fear it's pure frustration. We have had them beat many times with just minutes left an they find a way to win. In 70+ yrs they hold nice advantage the last 20 yrs really increased it. the last win coming in 1990. I think we have best them about 27 times. Ashland always believes they are going to win an that is what any good coach should do prepare to win not to just make a showing. And I'm sure that's what coach mcglone will do but the fact remains Ironton will probably win an I don't think that is fear of Ironton just the simple facts!

Part of being a great team is instilling fear and doubt in your opponent. It just goes with winning; and after winning for so many years, as Ironton has done, it becomes inevitable. The same holds true for all great teams in all sports at all levels.

Yep that sure does lighten up the schedule. When the KHSAA realigned in the 90's Russell had seven district games. This lead to the OKAC folding and left Russell with only three games to fill. Ashland, Greenup and Boyd were the three natural rivals on this side of the river. Finally things have worked back out where Russell and Ironton can resume the series.

Why don't you tell some of those fools on the other site that Russell has not dodged Ironton and sure hasn't scheduled weak teams. Like I said in another post, Wheelersburg, Portsmouth West, Simon Kenton, Parkersburg have all been on the schedule since the Devils and Tigers last met. It just so happens that the scheduling has worked out where the two can finally play again.
Oh, yell and tell Graybeard to stick it.
Not to mention there for awhile...the district had not only Russell, but Lawrence Co., Mason Co., Newport..who were all ranked in top 10 consistently...all those teams in the same district....Lloyd had a decent team every now and then as well...I know the last few years the district has been much weaker, but it's been overly strong as well

They have the same option as everybody else and could have played up a class? Several teams have done it. They had options they choose to play in 2a.

regardless of why or why not these two teams havent played is irrelavant they r playing now and as stated it wasnt like the devils were playing a soft non district schedule and not to many schools chose to play up i mean the tomcats played against other schools there size not bigger ones

Ironton has a football website that list a lot of information about this series between Ironton and Russell here http://www.irontonfootball.com/ There's also photos and video clips of Ironton from this year

If it were only that simple. Now things have worked out to where both teams can schedule each other and that us the way it should be.
09-02-2009, 09:31 AM
Coach McGlone will make this a good game!!
09-02-2009, 10:41 AM
Russell has had a solid football team in the class for many years. Every team has ups and downs. My point is Russell is much smaller than Ashland, Boyd, and Greenup. Yet they are on the schedule every year. The only team on our schedule that is smaller is Raceland. So if anyone wants to complain about our soft schedule, there are the facts. I don't know why Ashland is always very negative about Russell? Can soneone explain? They beat the crap out of Russell last year.

It's called jealousy.
Some just can't stand it that they are not the king of the hill anymore and haven't been for almost half a century.

Oh I don't think there's any doubt who king of the hill is. All that needs to be said is MERCY! I give up! We don't want any more of those Tomcats! I don't care how bad your getting spanked you should never give up.

Never heard any complaints about a soft scheduel for the Tomcats. Because it didnt happen, Ironton has always been there Portsmouth, until a few years ago. The point is Russell likes to make excuses about there scheduel, but in fact they could have played up, no not that many people do that but it is an option especially if you want to brag about there records but not accept that they choose to be in a weaker class. If not for that weaker class they would not be nearly as successful lewis co, east carter, west carter, They do play a good non district, simon kenton, but didnt they get beat? Thats my point. Im not saying they could not compete in a higher class but they would not have 11-2 / 10-3 seasons They do what they do well and most always(last year :igiveup give Ashland a good game. All I am saying is if ussell evils want to be King of the 2a (now 3a) hill then thats up to them. Hail King of the weiners:1::biggrin:

Fact still remains that over the last 35 years Russell has a winning record against the kittens. Why doesn't Ashland play up? If they wanted to they could. Maybe that way they could stop getting whipped by Johnson Central. King of the hill? I think not. More like a clown prince.

It just really shocked me Fball as much as I give you a hard time about it. I never expected to see them do that! All joking aside this is a fun game for everybody an a great rivalry! I would like to see Ashland an Russell in the same district like it use to be 20 yrs ago.

Russell has had there share of playing up in 06 they played up to a much bigger school which is now correctly placed in I believe 5 a & came within 3 pts of a state championship. By the way this wasn't by choice.

I wasn't shocked as much as disappointed.
I used 35 because that is as far back as I can remember. I'm not as old as you.
Yeah I really liked it when we were in the same district and ironton was in the same conference.
You still didn't answer. Which game are you going to. Come on over across the river and you can watch the game with me and RAM-A-DEVIL. Maybe the evils will surpise us.
