ooh-rah_hitgurl Wrote:Yupsys. I know that much, my hats off to these two amazing coaches that i may add i think the world and all of. They are great at what they do, and how they do it, if nothing else they should be awarded for that...

I agree. Good Luck Lynn Camp in the playoffs. They may end up getting Pikeville in a first round game this year, the ways things are looking that is.

Mick Caba for Magoffin.
#33
Hans Doederer ( not sure of the spelling) was ok to.

In No Specific Order:

Ashland - Herb Conley
Ashland - Vic Marsh
Russell - Ivan McGlone
Raceland/Boyd County/Johnson Central - Bill Tom Ross
Ironton (OH) - Bob Lutz
Bell County - Dudley Hilton
Johnson Central/Sheldon Clark - Jim Matney
Rockcastle - Tom Larkey (maybe?)

TC, how could you leave Haywood out? :thumb: Other than that it looks good.

I posted later in the thread already and corrected myself. I had left off both Phillip Haywood and Hilliard Howard. I knew the team's (Belfry and Pikeville), but at the time I was writing that list their names had just completely slipped my mind.

i have to say haywood, i mean he won back to back state titles, and he lost his to star players and belfry is still one of the best teams around here.

hager isnt quite yet a elite coach but he is darn good he will be there soon but id have to say matney is by far the best coach around

Being and ashland fan I don't know much about anyone outside our schedule, so here are mine, In no certain order 1. Herb conley-Ashland, 2. Vic marsh-Ashland, 3. Ivan Mcglone-russell 4. Bill tom ross- almost every team around here, 5 Matney-jc. And In my opinion, the best coach/recruiter (hehe) around is Bob Lutz from Ironton.

Phillip Haywood

Coach Dave Mitchell is one of the greatest coaches i know. He is always willing to help his boys in anyway. A true coach has to have faith in the boys and coach mitchell sure does have that in his team!!! My vote is for coach dave mitchell who i personally think is a great guy!:Cheerlead

I agree 100%. He has helped his players on and off the field, to me that is amazing for a man to take time out of his life and put his job as the number one priority. Thanks Coach Mitchell

No one even mentioned Bill Musick. One of the best coaches i have ever been around. Knew the game very well and he also coached The Eagles to a perfect season and a district championship.
Also
matney, Howard, haywood, Hilton, Bill Tom Ross(who was one of the greatest coaches i had ever played for. I respected that man more then anyone else i have ever played for)
#44
imo..two coaches who will turn around loosing programs are Chris Mcnamee (former pikeville coach) at pike cenral, and Eric Ratliff at east ridge!

No love For former pikeville asst. coach Bill Alera
#45
So is there going to be a poll where everyone can put it to a vote?
#46
Matney
#47
Haywood
Runyon
Conley
Mcnamee
#48
Phillip Haywood hands down !!! But his former player John Derossett has done a good job to !!! (2001)
#49
john derossett is a terrible coach, he's just been blessed with talent. In 2001 anyone could have coached those boys and they still would have went to state.

DangerousA Wrote:No one is going to mention David Mitchell, who fields competitive teams at a split county school that has barely over 125 boys enrolled? Lynn Camp, which is located in Corbin, has no community support and is practically considered Knox central's ugly sister. What dave has done there deserves the utmost respect, as among coaches he is one of the top picks.
Coach Mitchell has been a very good coach for many years. He understands had to handle castoffs from other programs and plug them into his system. Why would you say LC is a ugly sister of KC, they don't seem to pretty to me.

Phillip Haywood will rank #1 on my list...of course. One of the classiest coaches in the state.

Hillard Howard was a good coach for Pikeville in the '80's.

Jim Matney is a good coach..I just think that his excitement on the sidelines is a little much and staged at times. But, that's just my opinion.

Shawn Hager is going to be among the top when his career gets some time and big wins tacked on to it.
