Agreed !
This is not a prior staff issue. Some have moved on and some just plain knew better than to stay.

Mountain Warrior Wrote:I agree, class program that has proven their caliber of program. I wish I could get a bus and just travel around to school like Lex Cath, St. X, Henry Clay, Beechwood, etc. and let them see how these players work during the off season. They don't wait until July 15th, show up and say, "here I am coach let's get er' done". We are getting there. Coach Jones left a absolute awesome weight training program for me and the kids have bought into it. But it takes all of them and I have a couple of very talented young men that have not found the weight room door yet. That will only last so long before they no longer are a part of Engineer football. I expect alot, but in return I give alot back to my players. I compare it to being a leader of US Soldiers, you have a huge responsibility when America entrusts you with the health and welfare of their sons and daughters. Just the same, the Engineer parents have entrusted me with the health and welfare of their sons, as well as to be a solid role model and teach them to be a better young man that can be successful in life. Football lasts only a short time, Life is much longer and not near as fun.You need to practice what you preach WARRIOR! It is not possible to ask these kids to be committed to the off season when their coach is a no show. I fully understand your health concerns and financial security of your family, but you should have considered this before you took the job. It is now obvious that you are not able to physically or financially(without a teaching position) able to lead this football program. I think I speak for the majority of the players and parents that it is time to move on and for you to take care of your concerns at home. Maybe down the road sometime when all of your issues are settled you can take up coaching again. These young men have lost to much already to have set and wonder if they have a coach or not.

I am however still under the employment of the Kentucky Army National Guard until my Disability Retirement is settled. I was hoping it would be settle in April but because they could not get me in for appointments it is now going to be at least May.
Second, I do have some health issues that have popped up over the last couple of weeks. None that are life threatening but that do prevent me from traveling.
If my retirement is approved, i am looking at $90,000 a year tax free (base on a Leiutenant Colonel pay) and medical/dental coverage free for my family for the rest of my life. So, this is my main priority right now
I hate it for those young men because, I want to be there with them but neither the administration or I realized that the entire staff would quit after saying the would stay.
So, you think what you want and if the Administration wants me to leave, all they have to do his ask. You may want to get your facts straight
It is obvious now that are are not able physically or financially without a teaching position to take on a football program. We have lost 7 days of spring practice and 2 or 3 weight lifting competitions because you have been unable to show up. Also if you are up for disability why would you be in the football locker room teahcing and PARTICAPATING in army combative techniques on one of the six days you have decided to show up.

What is has to do is when I took the job, the only stipulation was that I had to keep the old staff, which I was fine with. I know them all and they are good people. However, they all decieded to leave.
I would have been able to fulfill my obligation to my current employment until my retirement was passed and had the confidence that the players were being taken care of by their previous assistants. So, yes since each assistnat told the principal that they wanted to stay regardless of who was hired, it does have something to do with the last staff.
That was their choice and I respect it. However, it has definitely added to the issues that we are facing.
Take care and good luck, I would be glad to talk with you personally anytime.

This situation is not the assistants fault. They have no control of who shows up or who doesn't.

the administration needs to work things out with jones, finally get some respect in football, and then destroy it, the kids are the ones suffering, and i am very sure they want him back to fix all this. where will bombs drop this week. I am also sure anyone who thinks about applying here knows there is something bad wrong. Red Flags all over the place:popcorn:

i still say not possible, but yea what is the deal now, is luttrell gone for good, i think jones is still a great coach, they just need to get off his back and he needs to stay out of the public eye. personally if i were jones i would tell them where to go, but thats just me
04-27-2009, 03:41 PM
he should, but i know he worrys about the players, he regrets resigning, he needs to put blinders on and take care of those boys, work it out with admin.:argue:
04-27-2009, 04:28 PM
from what i know the admin likes mike, those guys go way back, but it was just parents and alot of pressure for things away from the field that led to his demise and yea i am sure he cares a ton about the kids, he is a heck of guy just had a rough go of it. to be honest the administration are good guys too, i just think that they handled the situation poorly.

i hope they get it worked out quick, good points:Clap:

Don't know the details nor do I care to know them but seems like that would be pretty tough to put blinders on & go on like nothing happened.

In Harlan County Coach Larkey didnt get to come to all of the spring practice, but the coaches Evarts,Cawood, and Cumberland ran the spring practice. after spring ball was over they took them back into the weight..
so yea i think the assistants need to step up a lil more to keep the kids on track.

That will not work. The assistants from the previous staff were looking to stay on, met with the coach and realized it was not a fit, so they resigned. Coach Luttrell found him a new staff they did what they could, then realized he wasn't committed and they have went in other directions. Coach keeps telling the admin. and others when he'll be here and never shows. He's set deadlines over and over again and never kept them. He only got three days of spring practice in. The weight program is as strong as ever, Coach Jones still teaches the 4th block class, and the middle school coach is running the after school weights program by himself. The problem is not so much that the coach isn't here, it's that he's said he'll be here on a certain date more than twenty times and not shown up.

However, like I stated, Defense wins Championships. I want Estill to me known as the hardest hitting, most aggressive team in the mountains!

With this situation I am glad we are taking our time at South Laurel. I see a lot of problems here. Old coach there, new coach not. There has to be more to this. Why hasn't the new coach moved if he is not teaching? If health isssues are a concern for the coach he needs to be fair with Estill and answer one question.......can he continue and coach.

Estill's jv handled Powell easily from what I was told. If Estill gets a a solid coach they still will beat Powell handily. What if Jones took the Powell job and Estill stomped a mudhole in them again? Estill has alot of talent returning they will not be as down as some might think. Powell is not very physical at all.

If this the route Powell co. wants to go "Powell needs to get it worked out quick" before Estill comes to their senses.
