Mike Whitaker out at Powell Co.
#31
I don't blame Coach Whit one bit for leaving. I can't wait to get out of that school either. That place is a prison. But I do feel bad for my former teammates/current players. Coaching changes are rough especially when it's someone who was like Whitaker that everyone liked and loved to play for. I know I did. But quitting isn't gonna make it any better. Just keep lifting and working hard in the weight room. But congratulations to Coach Whitaker on taking a step up in his career and I look for a state championship out of the Cougers. Look out Highlands...

How can you say this? the last hall of fame bowl he got inducted but he wouldn't give them a picture to go on the wall and seemed to have a negative attitude towards Powell football from what some of the coaches said. I also heard the A.D. made a phone call before but not for that. Powell had it's first winning season and I don't think you look inside the county from a former 0-30 team player but just my opinion.:dontthink

Coach Whitaker did a GREAT job and had the first ever winning season at Powell co. in over 20 years in only 2 seasons. It was a privalege to work for him and I wish him nothing but the best. I learned alot from the man.

GO WITH TYLER PUCKETT! He knows and does what he learned from coach Whitaker. He won't change what the players have worked on and learned for the past 2 years. Tyler will stay with coach Whitaker's game plan. NO BIG DRASTIC CHANGES.
#34
The Defense is going to shut most people out anyways! LOL
#35
Tyler will carry on with with coach Whitaker did and I will take care of the defense, DON'T WORRY PUCKETT, I GOT YOUR BACK( kiddin')

Big Chief Wrote:It is obvious that you do not know much about football or selecting coaches. Therefore, I will not reply to your feeble attempts to explain how Brewer would be a poor choice. Powell's recent coaching hires, Whitaker excluded, have been horrible. They have to get a coach that is in it for the long haul if they plan on continuing to develop the program. If not, look for a return to winning 2 or 3 games a season.

Yeah ok. Everyone here knows who you are. Only Brandon Brewer would think that he is the best choice for the job. And I would much rather win 2 to 3 games a season than play for a Brandon Brewer coached team. WOW!! I don't think anyione is that STUPID to get him as a head coach. Good joke man. But nobody wants a loser here. We want someone that will do something more withthe program.

If this is the attitude of most of the Powell football supporters, then I'm sure you will get exactly what you want. BTW, I'm not Coach Brewer. I'm just a guy that has watched football in this area for a long time. Good luck to the Pirates next season.
#39
I just hope they get an established winner. Someone the kids will take to right off the bat. I really care about the program and want it to succeed. I will help out in whatever way I can. Even if that means stepping away to get more qualified pos. coaches. Whatever it takes. We need to get someone that won't change the offense too much. These kids have been in this system for 2 full yrs now. Overhauling it will cause some confusion. The defense will be fine.

think mike jones is interested?:: he has not took a job yet, the powers that be would hate this at estill county, omg, the rivalry just shoots up 200%. :HitWall:

That would definately increase the rivalry..lol. That would be huge!

with that schedule and jones systems, man, the estill county three year win streak will be over. He knows how to build a program, Powell has a good start on their program. They do not want to have to deal with that every year.:yikes:

I thought Whitaker was gonna be the savior of Powell Co Football.
#44
He is just going to be offensive coordinator. Not head coach. Hilliard is still the head coach for now.

He put us on the map. Now we just have to continue with it.

What map would that be?

thecoacher Wrote:What does he coach at Montgomery? I am pretty sure he does not call the offense or defense, so his experience could be pretty limited. There is a big difference in calling plays on Monday night and Friday nights:redboxer: I am not sure I would hire a coach that had not been at least a varsity coordinator.

Powell does not need to go that route.

it is a critical time for powell county, continue that success they had last year, something to build on, estill county in transition too, this is a rivalry, who ever makes the best decision here will set things in their favor for years to come.

I guess it's good to be the target of a lot of programs. Here's hoping that LCC and Highlands get to play each other this year. Not going to claim that Highlands will definitely win state (I never do that) this year but Highlands should be very good this year. I'd expect it to be a good game; LCC out for revenge and Highlands out to prove the last match up blow out was not a fluke. Best wishes to the Cougars this year.

I've worked with Tyler the past couple of years and I have to put in a good word for the guy. I'm loyal to the people I work with and will try to help them out if I can at all.

I want what's best for the program. Mike Whitaker was a "lottery" pick coach for Powell county. Hard to replace a Mike Whitaker and what he brought to the table. I've heard Mike Jones name mentioned for the job. He's a very good coach as well and did a tremendous job at Estill. He would be a GREAT hire.
I've heard Brandon Brewer's name mentioned. Brandon is a very good coach.
I've ran up many 300$ phone bills talking football with Brandon. The guy was an all-american in college. He was probably the best football player to ever come out of Powell county. Brandon DOES know the game very well and would be a good hire. Coach Puckett wants the job and after working with the guy for 2 years I will say I support him. You gotta be loyal to the guys you work with.

He's a heck of a coach and a good guy. I know alot of high school and middle school coaches he's helped out.

I don't know, They think I'm crazy over there in Breathitt(LOL)
:yikes:

Wonder when we will see him at the field? Will he be helping with weight lifting until passing league starts?

A little bit of breaking news here on this. I know for a FACT that a coach who played on the carpet for a state title this past year is interested in the Powell co. job and is willing to listen to their offer. I can't give his name at this moment but this is 100% a fact and not a rumor.
Looks like Powell could have a shot to win the lottery twice(lol).
#56
I know you worked for a guy at Rowan P.C. few years ago who played for a state championship last year. Am I getting warm? If Powell could get him there is simply no need to interview any one else. You would have to be delerious not to hire a coach that played for a state title last year.
#57
He asked me not to mention his name but this is 100% legit. He is interested and willing to listen to their offer and I know this for a fact and I'll leave it at that for now. He did play for a state championship last year.
#58
He would really charge things up in Powell county.
#59
Powell county is crazy if they don't go after him. I would consider working for this coach.
#60
Did he play for a state title? Or did he coach for a state title? Was he a head coach or assistant? If he was an assistant, then that really doesnt mean anything.
