bc they do. how can you be somone when you dont play anybody. Breathitt ran over harlan easy the first game 47-8. i admit that in the playoffs harlan had breathitts number in the 1st half and breathitt came out in the 2nd and took control. people have there own opinion.

Harlan was pretty good, estill shut out breathitt county the first they played, how long has it been since that has happened, and they were the state runner up, somerset avg. 43 points per game and was held to 6, dont want to give credit because it was jones, estill never had this kind of success, and it sticks in their crawl, this same kind of attitude is why he is not there no more, i feel jones is better off if he never coaches again, for goodness sakes you would think this is a beechwood thread. so lets set back and see if they have that type of success again, and i hope for continued success to be positive, and i think that last staff did a heck of a job getting the program where its at

i agree about jones. he did put estill back on the map, but he wouldnt schedule the harder teams to play like belfry, danville, boyle county and all those teams.

I understand your gripe, and have heard it a lot over the years, however, I don't see it making a difference with THIS season, sure it probably could have changed things in other seasons. However, everyone saw Breathitt and they got our best shot the first time around, we played well but one giant mistake decided the game. Basically a harder schedule still wouldn't have allowed us to take down the Bobcats in the playoffs. Great team vs. a Greater Team.

i would like to see estill play harder teams bc you won't get any here by beating the easy teams. this years schedule is ok. from what it looks like we have a few hard teams to play Breathitt, Rowan (heard there suppose to be good and that they returned all of there players from last year), Garrard, & Madison Southern.

First off we have to play Breathitt because they are in our district. Looking at the KHSAA website and Rowan and Garrard were both 4-7 last year, and Madison Southern was 0-10 last year. If you were to go to the KHSAA website and compile the win loss record of the 12 teams Estill played last year ,the combined W-L of those 12 teams is 64-71 with a winning % of 47%. If you were to take the 10 teams scheduled for next year their combined record for the 08 season is 46-67 with a combined winning % of 40%. Estill should have a chance to be competitive and have a chance to win every game on thier schedule next year. I'll be rootin them on hoping they win them all. Please don't try to diminish what this group has accomplished in the past couple of years, be glad that the bar and expectations has been raised and let's get ready for the 09 campaign. Also with Harlan Co. being taken out of the district the probability of hosting a first round playoff game is well within our reach. We were in a very competitive district last year with 3 teams from it being ranked in the top 10 in class 3A. This year in a 4 team district everyone will make the playoffs, but if we beat Powell and Magoffin we will be hosting a playoff game AGAIN in the first round for the 3rd year in a row. I'm proud of what these guys have done and am excited about what they may do in the future.

im not. im just saying that i think we should play harder teams than what we do. look at breathitt they play harder teams than what we do and look we it gets them. your not the only one thats proud of these boys. i went to almost everything game last year the ones i didnt go to are (pinville, phelps, magoffin, taylor county). i love to go out and watch them boys play. i hope that they have a good season this year and win every game on there schedule and go to state, that would be awesome, but in order to do that they have to get past breathitt and there is not a doubt in my mind that says they cant beat breathitt bc they can, all they have to do is hold fugate, and the game is ours!
04-04-2009, 03:13 AM
It's not just Fugate, Haddix is no slouch himself. He was nursing an injury for a big part of the season last year. Look for a healthy Hadix to be a big part of their offensive output this year, especially if everyone loads up on the big man.
04-04-2009, 03:28 AM
i agree hadix is good. was it there offensive line or the defensive line that lost the most players.

I really did not intend to post this much, but I think it is important for our community and fans to know what the Head Coach is thinking. First, you are all right. It is good to play harder teams to prepare you for the playoffs and winning a Championship. However, Estill has only had a few years of success and the mentallity of young men can be fragile. By that, I mean you need to be able to breed success into them and sometimes that means playing lesser opponents in order to let them learn how to win. Winning is a habit and unfortunately so is losing. I would like to see us eventually have the upper echelon teams on our schedule. That is a big part of why I have scheduled Clay Co. and Pikeville for our scrimmages, in order to see what we are made of early. Regardless, I love the support and enthusiasm of our fans, LOVE IT!

when the time is right and we start scheduling harder teams i would like for us to play some of the lexington school, the main one i would like us to play. Lexington Catholic

I agree, class program that has proven their caliber of program. I wish I could get a bus and just travel around to school like Lex Cath, St. X, Henry Clay, Beechwood, etc. and let them see how these players work during the off season. They don't wait until July 15th, show up and say, "here I am coach let's get er' done". We are getting there. Coach Jones left a absolute awesome weight training program for me and the kids have bought into it. But it takes all of them and I have a couple of very talented young men that have not found the weight room door yet. That will only last so long before they no longer are a part of Engineer football. I expect alot, but in return I give alot back to my players. I compare it to being a leader of US Soldiers, you have a huge responsibility when America entrusts you with the health and welfare of their sons and daughters. Just the same, the Engineer parents have entrusted me with the health and welfare of their sons, as well as to be a solid role model and teach them to be a better young man that can be successful in life. Football lasts only a short time, Life is much longer and not near as fun.

it still should be a exciting season for the Engineers!!!!! im gonna come out and give my support. i cant wait til the season starts!!!!!

Estill has found themselves a solid coach and staff. Coach Jones did a very good job at Estill, but for whatever the reasons, that "train" has left the station. True support from the school and the community will help the kids and a program more than anything. Does not matter if you have a 1st year HC or a 30 year HC veteran.
Good Luck.
Good Luck.

that train took with it, consistency, a staff that had great chemistry and no egos, the thing had finally became a program top to bottom, they were running the same offense and defense all the way down, i mean did you ever see those guys do power clean, :1:

Estill should be hosting a playoff game as long as they are in the district they are in. With Breathitt, Powell and Magoffin, only real compotition is Breathitt.

I was told that the new coach was not even around, that he was still living in Harlan. Is this true? How can you coach from another county. How can you earn the trust of the kids, parents and community. If he is not gonna show up, the kids are gonna think they dont have to come when they dont want to. You must lead by example. Something does not seem right about this situation.

Coach has been there six times since hired in February. He came down to get introduced at a basketball game, followed by a day of weights, he came down and we got in 3 days of spring ball, and he was in on tuesday this week to show us combatives. I don't know why he hasn't shown up, just know we haven't seen much of him.
04-23-2009, 12:41 PM
I would say that depends on if what you are hearing and what you are seeing match up.

Pike Central is going through the same thing with Chapman. I know with Chapman he can't leave until he finishes up the school year, because of his contract he signed with the Breathitt county school system, as a teacher to teach a full year here. I say your coach is having the same issue.

I would say not cause he dont teach. The admin. is getting pretty upset from what I hear. Sounds like to me if you wanna coach you would get there. Who is running the weight program? If i was the admin. I would get rid of this guy and find a coach who wants to be there. Im sure plenty of good coaches would like to have this job.

First of all, not that it is any of your business but you are right I do not teach. I am however still under the employment of the Kentucky Army National Guard until my Disability Retirement is settled. I was hoping it would be settle in April but because they could not get me in for appointments it is now going to be at least May.
Second, I do have some health issues that have popped up over the last couple of weeks. None that are life threatening but that do prevent me from traveling.
If my retirement is approved, i am looking at $90,000 a year tax free (base on a Leiutenant Colonel pay) and medical/dental coverage free for my family for the rest of my life. So, this is my main priority right now
I hate it for those young men because, I want to be there with them but neither the administration or I realized that the entire staff would quit after saying the would stay.
So, you think what you want and if the Administration wants me to leave, all they have to do his ask. You may want to get your facts straight

Sorry to hear about your health issues. If these issues just came up i can understand, sorry. But if these are some issues you have had and could hinder you to limitation, why even take the job? I dont know was just wondering.

What does the absence or presence of the prior staff have to do with your participation in the weightroom and on the field?
