On the contrary, I did meet him with my dad at UK Basketball Camp. Ironically, he was very nice to us. I even have a picture of me and him. (Also, did you know Tubby Smith had an average of more than 26 wins per season? That wasn't good enough for us Kentucky fans, but it was definitely good enough for Minnesota. I didn't even know the University of Minnesota existed until Tubby Smith went there, and now look at him. He has a great record (38-16) and he had a top 25 recruiting class at a pathetic program.)
I stood with Tubby Smith back then, and I will stand with Coach Gillispie now.

i just want to see a coach come into ky and bring the game back here.. instead of coming to an awesome program and trying to make themselves look good
I'm in love with Tawnya.. hehe..

Tubby knew and still knows how to coach, whether the players are good or bad he gets the best out of them, something this guy doesnt know how to do. How hard is it to realize that people? If his defense was so good, why is it that teams kill us with the three and eat us up in the lane most of the time huh, can ya tell me that? Its not always the players fault like he makes it out to be, when the **** is he ever going to take blame for what he does or doesnt do. Like never changing the defense up a little, or have a set rotation instead of playing a player 30 minutes one game then barely 5 the next game. He sucks, I cant stand him and I cant wait till his sorry rear end is gone from UK. Oh yeah, they will lose tonight againt Mississippi St., and defense and offense is spelled right with the s, not the frickin c, good lord, go back to school. Who cares if the word fence has a c in it and all that crap, its spelled the way it is, so spell it right or dont spell at all, which I see most on here cant anyway.
I agree completly

There is no doubt that Tubby was terrible, just horrible: He was here 10 years and eeked out a record of 263-83 and his last five years he couldn't win many games, going: 32-4, 27-5, 28-6, 22-13, 22-12.

I enjoyed this post.:p Tubby was a good coach and still is. Whoever says he is not simply has something against the man.

he is a great coach.........it's kind of hard to win every game win only have 2 consistant players

At this point I think he may be in over his head. He has talent on the team, top recruiting classes, and in CBB you can win with youth unlike CFB. Most great players go pro so early in BB. I just don't get a lot of the things he does.

how many teams like to lose 13 and 14 games a year though. The manager saw a trend going down hill and he made the smart decision by getting him out of here

whos fought is that why dont he get out and recruit then. If all you want is a good coach maybe you should get tubby back and continue to lose with his styles. Maybe it wasnt he was horrible coach like I may insisted maybe its he dont play kentucky basketball style it wasn't exciting to watch he never pressed. and after about 3 or 4 years of him being there it was a slow pace game and just not my style to watch so yes i am still saying the best team he had was the first year he was there and still dont understand how that he didn't win another championship if he was so good than

GOOD COACH OR NOT
Well I played basketball all thru school and I was told by ALL my coaches that when I shoot the ball ALWAYS follow my shot! PERIOD THERE WAS NO OTHER WAY TO SHOOT THR BALL.. SHOOT AND FOLLOW! Obviously I along with every other basketball player that had ever acknowledged this rule found out just how valuable this rule was. I cannot tell you how many times the follow up resulted in many many points or at least regaining the ball possession!
NOW WHEN ASKED IF HE STRESSED THIS POINT OF FOLLOWING YOUR SHOT TO HIS PLAYERS HE RESPONDED BY SAYING ... WELL I DONT THINK THAT IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE WHEN WE SHOOT THE BALL WE INTEND TO MAKE THE SHOT.. WE ARENT SUPPOSED TO BE THINKING ABOUT HAVING TO FOLLOW THE SHOT SINCE WE ARE FOCUSED ON MAKING THE BASKET!
THIS HAS REVEALED TO ME THAT ONE OF THE MOST VALUABLE RULES IN BASIC FUNDAMENTAL BADKETBALL IS NEING IGNORED AND NOT A PART OF BILLY G's program..... now if you or anyone else has played the game you too know about following your shot... Such small things reveal a big picture that I don't like and many have the same feelings and I really hate it but it is what it is!

He's a good coach, he just don't have his style of players in yet, but I do start to expect some results from him in the next two seasons, although I give last year and this year a break because of the mess he has to fix thanks to Tubby.

I agree that different defensive schemes are needed, just as different offensive plays are needed, however by watching some of the games that UK has lost, the opposing team shot the ball extremly well from behind the arc. In those cases, zone defense is not the answer. You have to get out on the shooters and stay up in their crawl. Or as my high school coach use to say, play kiss mouth defense. IMO the players are so concerned with getting beat off the dribble that they don't play tight man to man. This could be from being lazy or by being affraid coach is going to chew their butts off for allowing someone to drive around them.
All in all, I would have to say that Coach G is a good coach that is in a rebuilding situation and isn't receiving a whole lot of encouragement from the fan base. The Pitino era wasn't built in the first two seasons and neither will the Coach G era. Stick by you're school, players, and coach. After all he has enough to worry about without having to worry about the UK fan base. And before I offend you, I'm not saying that you aren't for UK, coach G, or the players. That was just a general statement to everyone. I merely quoted you on the zone defense thing.

Very good post, and one that I have attempted to iterate as well.
In the MSU game, a Zone Defense would not have worked. MSU was putting 3's up from well beyond the arc. UK fans want National Chamionships and will accept nothing less. But National Champsionships are won with players not just a great coach. Billy Clyde has yet to bring in enough quality players to support competing at the top tier level.
It's so easy to blame BCG for losing to teams that we should not lose to, but it happens everyday where teams with more talent lose to teams with less. But in most of those cases, a more experienced team is the team that has beaten UK.
Talent is the biggest obstacle that BCG has to contend with now. Besides Meeks & Patterson, the starting five is no better than average players and would be roles players for almost every other team in the SEC. I dare say that Stevenson would not start for another team in the conference. Everyone has made their comments about Porter, so no need to rehash. And Harris just has not been able to stay healthy to get into any rythem.
I don't like the losses, but I also don't feel like the season is over for UK. When UK jumped out to a 5-0 SEC start, folks were throwing out comments like "running the table". We all know that was unrealistic. But now the Cats have dropped three in a row, and we are ready to change the entire line-up and kick the coach out of here!
If someone would have told me that after the start that the Cats got off to that we would be 5-3 after the first 8 games of SEC play, I would have been pleased if that were possible.

But yeah heis best over all team was his first year and you all are forgetting that he was run out of here for losing so much his last 3 seasons so little to nothing about basketball... I guess whatever.... he is an excellent x o guy but not UK ball and he coculdn't win games toward the end off his carrer at uk neither.. So what tubbys gone allready and we need to see if billy g does better in another year or 2 and if not than get another person I think

I dont take the talent thing though just dont buy it...

No I dont understand how tubby was a good coach but he is gone anyways the now than god... maybe he was an xo guy but that isn't basketball sure isnt ky ball and he couldn' recruit anyone for instance four years we had to be satisfied with his son because he couldn't get anyone else... I think porter is better than Saul was.... hec couldn' even get the better of the sons gg lol
