Shelby Valley 84, Pikeville 60

They just played poor in the first half, along with some (in my opinion) bad calls. I was not surprised to see Shelby Valley come out as a different team in the 2nd half and put this one away.

I still think that they had a bit of a let down. Coming off two high-profile wins over Henry Clay and Walton, I think they just weren't ready for the intensity level Pikeville would bring.

Yes, they were able to only play well for two quarters and still win, but against a better team, a first half like that will bury them.

I know certain teams have a "tradition" of throwing objects whenever their team score its first points, but I have always felt it is a disruption of the game and should not be tolerated. Never understood why there is always a "warning", it should be a technical on the first offense.

To be honest, though, it's not really fair to call a technical and penalize the team, since they don't have anything to do with it. The more appropriate response would be to eject any guilty parties from the arena immediately.

Now there is no warning. It is an automatic technical foul, with subsequent technicals on any side's team that throws an object. Also, anyone caught throwing an object is to be escorted out of the gym. I agree with you, it is kind of silly to T the team, but I don't really know what else you can do because it does disrupt the game so I guess one team has to be punished.

Well just to puzzel ones mind say ur team is in a game in a slump and you deide its time to slow it down. You can run over to the other side and start throwing things on the court and it be a techincal on the other team? Yall get what I'm saying?

Obviously if it is blatant that YOU are the perpetrator, YOUR team will be the one issued the technical

Back to game discussion please, not the immature antics of the student sections.

Great effort by both teams. Pikeville's extreme hustle made up some for their small size. Must have been 2,000 fans present.

Pikeville took care of the ball the first half, that's why they stayed in the game. I thought Matt, Devin, and Gatlin handled the pressure well. SV's coaches made their halftime adjustments and Pikeville couldn't answer those to adjustments. Good coaching by SV by putting the ball inside to Newsome at the high post and having an outlet at the weakside box. I would say the next game will be a tougher task for Pikeville, now that SV has seen and exploited their weakness. It will probably be an inside/out game for SV. Good win for SV and good game by Pikeville to stay within 24 points of Shelby Valley.

I don't really understand why everyone sees this as a bad game for Valley... Sure they struggled to get things going and faced some adversity from the officials in the first half. The bottom line is that they bounced back and still blew Pikeville out. Shelby Valley played as badly as they could have played in the first half and then responded with a half the way they have been playing for the first few games of the season. If they play hard they just simply outclass the rest of the region. Also I would like to note that I think if Pikeville can play like they did last night they will be the 2nd best team in the region, but Im sure they were a little extra fired up for SV. They can always expect everyones best effort...

I think the problem with this game was not even once did either team go from offense to defense and back to offense without the whistle being blown in the first quarter. My opinion is the refs were worried about the game getting out of control so they was going to call every little touch. They did that the first half. Calls like that doesnt keep the game from getting out of control, it frustrates the players and in my opinion makes them want to lash out more. Games should be called consistent, not called according to the two teams playing Now, if a fight or something breaks out or it looks like one is going to, then call it a little tighter until the emotions get under control. It is the same things as calling any call in a game, dont anticipate the foul, wait until you see it before you call it.

But it was a hard fought game by both teams. Hats off to Pikeville for having a half time lead. Their boys played hard even when they was undersized in almost every position.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It is the size of the fight in the dog.

Anything can happen in a rivalry game...

Curby Tackett did have an awesome game. A little tougher game than most of us expected, but it still was a good game for the Wildcats.
