Belfry 21 - Johnson Central 13
Belfry is a powerhouse team and i would like to congratulate them on the big win over johnson central but when the reddevil machine rolls into town in the second round of the playoffs it will be a different story. Russell has had a good year they have had a very tough schedule. Belfry you better be ready for ivan mcglones wing t offense and the morris defense.:devilflam
Mr. Kimbell, I wasn't able to make it to the game. So how did it go up front? I predicted that Belfry would win the battle and that would give Belfry the win by a TD. I'm sure you were there so tell me what your thoughts are and I'll trust what you say to be the way it went.
I'm a Bell Co. fan but I had to chime in for just a minute. Where are all of those people at today that they were talking a blowout win for JC against Belfry? It just doesn't happen that way. You have two parts to a game. You have the physical part and you have the mental part. Physically I don't know how the two squares up, but I am positive mentally, Belfry was the team that knew they would win this. You don't win consistantly over the years without that mental edge. JC has some growing up to do as far as the mental part before you start seeing them knocking off Belfry. There's two teams in the mountains that no one wants to play. That is Bell and Belfry. Trust me, they bouth go into each and every game they play, truly believing they will win. Why? Because they have done it year, after year, after year.
Bell has the best team that I have ever seen them have since Dudley came here. Belfry I don't know about that because I haven't been able to see them play. I wish the two schools would get together and play each year. You talk about a clash of the titans, right there it is. I'm Bell through and through, and if I was asked I would say Bell would beat them, but alot of that to could be based on me being bias. I do however respect Belfry and what they have done. Not just now but year after year. Same as Bell. We need to get these two on the field together and play. Of course, I would be pulling for the blue and white but I would also live with losing to Belfry because I know what we would be up against. These two are the Kings of the Mountains. Congrats to both teams. Both, have a great shot at playing on the carpet and bringing the state hardware back to the mountains with them. I hope they do.

How about next time just send me a pm asking me what I meant instead of accusing me of something in a open forum I did not do. DEAL?

Not accusing, just observing.... no big deal!

Well it's a big deal to me. That comment hurt my feelings.Sad

I'm not Mr. Kimbell, but was at the game and thought the Pirates front , on both sides of the ball, is what won the game. The front seven on defense held Centrals rushing attack to under 200 yards by the unofficial stats on here. That is an accomplishment in itself. Also central threw the ball 13 times against the pirates this game, having only passed it about 15 times coming in to this game.
Just seen some replays form the game. Really was a great game. Belfry seemed to control the LOS. The fake punt was a great gamble. I do have to say to Burke though, wow what a miss. Good game though.
There were a lot of comments made on here prior to the game about how big the JC linemen were. The thing is, having a big O-line at the high school level does not always equal success, especially against good teams. Many of the big guys at the high school level do not have the quickness and foot work required to go with their size. It is not the same as it is at the college and pro levels where the biggest, fastest, strongest players a team can get are selected. I was not at the game but I did listen on the radio and it appeared the Belfry lines definitely won the battle in the trenches on many occasions. Give me players at the high school level who are not really huge but have quickness off the ball and agility/athleticism and I'll take that every time.

I thought you were being sarcastic, jeez.... sorry. I think sarcasm is a good thing most of the time, so there was really no offense intended.

Great post and definitely true. Which is why I shake my head in amazement when I read which O and D linemen make the All State teams at the end of the year. Selecters often vote for the bigger kids (probably because they are the ones getting college scholarships and the selecters assume that means they were the best high school D and O linemen); when in reality most of the biggies were average at best in high school but just have the size and potential to be good in college. Highlands O and D lines have proven that year in and year out and it sounds like Belfry's line play confirm it again last weeks. Hat's off to the O and D linemen of Belfry.

Don't be sorry I was just messing with ya little.Smile Smile Smile Seriously I really didn't know which offense Belfry ran.

I agree. That was my point in posts before the game. But, Even though JC is huge up front, they still are very well coached by Coach Burchett and they move pretty well. There are alot of teams that have biggens up front but don't have the technique that is required to be successful. Belfry has the best OL in the state year in and year out.
Congrats Belfry and good game Johnson Central.

I agree 100%, and feel that we as mountain football needs to support each other. I hope bell, belfry, corbin or p-burg, Johnson central or even my team letcher central one day can see we was better than louisville or lexington team. Go Mountain Sports!
Not a Belfry team of the past. I don't think Belfry will go all the a way.
Mr. Postman Wrote:and i believe after this loss Central has something to prove..and will come out on the Friday of the playoffs and go to the Championship..that's right im calling it..Central will beat Holmes then Ashland and finally Highlands to make it to the championship..they are a better team then what they showed last Friday at Home to the Pirates..and can possibly win a state title this year...good luck to Belfry as well because they also could win a title in their class..

I think JC will make a deep run...but I simply can't see them getting past Highlands. They are too athletic and simply too quick for Central. That's not a knock at JC.....just stating...IMO........reality.

I think a Belfry/Russell matchup in the 2nd round is quite intriguing. Those two usually bring out the best in each other. Given the game would be played at Belfry...if both win their first round game.....I'd have to give Belfry the edge.
I was really surprised by the outcome....JC will get back on track this week though.
Johnson Central is a great team with huge potential in the playoffs this year. I stated in a thread before the game that Matney never puts up those huge numbers on a Haywood coached team; however, this JC team has a lot of weapons and can hurt you in many ways. A few more teams will feel their power. Most other teams struggled to hold this powerful offense in check. Johnson Central you have great fans, coaches, players and community. I am very proud to know that Johnson Central has and will represent Eastern Kentucky well this season and into the playoffs. Use what you learned from this game and make needed to changes that will propel you deep into the playoffs. Getting beat by 8 points by a good Belfry team is something that most can only dream about. We at Belfry are also proud of the fans, coaches, players and community that we live in. We have been blessed to have a great man like Haywood guiding our ship for so many years. I truly believe that this Johnson Central program is headed in the direction that Belfry began many years ago. The Johnson Central program will continue to make a name for its self for many years to come with Matney in charge. Belfry fans respect this program and knew that we were in for a battle this past weekend. I am glade that I had the opportunity to witness a fine ballgame that will be remembered for years in Eastern KY. We need to all put the hard feelings aside and pull for the opportunity to play back to back in Louisville this year. I will be a Johnson Central Belfry fan that day if it unfolds. Good luck Johnson Central, hope to see you in a few weeks. Maintain the focus and take it one game at a time!!!!!!!!!

Awesome post. Very positive!
(This also would be a good post to end this on. IMO Wink )
I talked to a friend from Johnson Central today and they were like wasn't that the best game ever. It was a great game to watch between two very good football teams. BTW JC fans I want to echo BelfryJustice. You guys are first class all the way. I wasn't on the field but it seemed like first class between both teams. "I know they was the thing at the end but it happens"
I know Jim personally and he is a great man and good coach. I truly do root for you guys whever you arent playing Belfry, good luck in the playoffs.
I've been looking for a reason to post this.Wink This is meant for pure fun. No offense meant.

I'm sorry you lost all credibility with your prediction last week and your response about Belfry's QB following the game.... thanks for playing though.

Ditto...I second that opinion.
jim matney was out coached and i think that he blew the game so that he could get a job next season as belfry's head coach. GO JCHS

Belfry has a coach and will have a coach for as long as he wants to stay.
