I was too young to remember for sure but there were several players that signed with EKU I believe-Chris MacNamee(was all OVC), Tim Honaker(never played but was D1 player IMO) and probably a few more though not sure. Bobby Deramus and Tim Honaker were D1 players for sure but off the field issues kept them from playing any college ball. Greg Hackney was another RB on that team that could have played college ball but I don't think he ever did. I don't know if he was D1 material or not but I think he could have because he was awesome and I know he could have played at Marshall or EKU. I think he wanted to concentrate on academics and I think he is a doctor now. Maybe some of the older Pikeville fans can help us out on this for conformation and whether or not there were any other players on that team that could have or did play college ball because I was just too young to remember...I would say they had numerous players that could have and maybe did play at the NAIA level.

No problem...if I remember correctly their father was a huge lineman, just a monster.

The 96-97 panthers with Brent Coleman, Eddie Durmas, Derek Valeigheart(dont know about the spelling), Derek Deskins didnt win a state title but I got to watch them and it was one of the best teams I have seen.

W!ithout a doubt Ian Holbrook from Ashland. He can bomb one over you or take off and run over you. Very exciting to watch the T-Cats play. PDT_061

Brent Coleman fumbled the ball against Beechwood with like 30 seconds to go on the 2 yard line and he wasn't even touched(ran into a Pikeville O-Lineman) as he ran in for the winning TD and the Panthers lost something like 24-20 to the Tigers. Beechwood went on to crush their opponent in the state title game.

Those Pikeville teams and some of the others were probably better. But the 2004 Belfry Pirates were the best team I've ever watched. I can only comment on things I have seen...and Doug Howard is the best football player I've ever seen personally. With the exception of Lawerence county and the first Prestonsburg game...none of the other games were even close. The state championship game was not as close as the score would lead you to believe. Of course they lost to Ironton..but nobody in Class AA is gonna beat them. So, I'm not saying their the best ever..just the best I've ever watched personally.
