oh i wasn't really comparing. in either of the posts that i made that included numbers. i was just discussing the "running back by committee" offense that many have converted to. Raceland and Russell are prime examples of this. Russells Wing T and I back field settings have been highly affective. Raceland this year, though they are running the ball about 85 % of the time, have used the wing t, power i, wishbone, pro set, and the spread to be effective. its impressive to see all aspects of the running game, the trap, sweep, belly, off tackle, option, utilized. but they will still drop back and throw it if needed. to go deep into the playoffs, you have to be multi-demensional. including special teams.
as for the defensive stats, i was just giving both defenses some credit. the offense gets alot of attention, but if you can keep a team from scoring its hard for them to win. thus i wanted to give credit where it was do.

I've been watching Cordle over the past few weeks and he has not been looking as good as he did at the beginning of the season. I think that coach McGlone needs to give Sparks a shot to show what he can do... If Russell is able to run the ball well against this Raceland Defense they might have a chance to win. Abrams has been showing how good of a threat he is to the opposition and once he gets on a roll, I don't see how Raceland is going to stop him.
My prediction:
Raceland-14
Russell-24
Lexington Christian's star running back thought he was going to run over or run around Raceland and he got 40+ yards all night on over 20 carries. If Raceland wins the battle on the offensive and defensive lines they have 5 backs that can score - Denton and Scott punish defensive backs. Raceland can pass when they want to but would rather play a power game. Their challenge will be playing on the road. Everyone thinks that Ashland improved after the Raceland game. They didn't. They just didn't play Raceland again.

Look for it Rams. I wish they (ashland and raceland) could play again. But you ll have to settle for some Devils. When, the Devils take the victory you'll hear a sucking sound on the BGR top twenty as Raceland falls from thier current ranking.

This game is going to be a great game. People from Russell say Raceland is going to kill Russell, some Russell people say Russell is going to kill Raceland and vis versa. With that being said, this is a rival game. It dont matter what the two teams records are, its going to be a battle. I just dont see either team winning by more that 2 td's. I just dont think that will happen. I have been reading about who has the tougher schedule, Russell has played one more quality opponent but they have lost all three of those games, Raceland has played two quality opponents and won both of those games. Now i dont think that gives the upper hand either way. Both teams have excellent running backs. Abrams is a great fit for the Russell wing-t system and the DC express as they have been calling them, are great out of Raceland's traditional spread sets. The game is going to be decided up front. Both teams have quality players up front and its going to be who has more heart and stamina. I think that this Raceland team is in better condition but if that Russell offenese can sustain some long drives then that may counter that. But in the end i hope for a great game and know that it will be a great atmosphere for football tomorrow night!!!

good deal. i love to see that. that is what makes high school football so incredible is the pride that one has in their team. as i bleed orange and black, i respect your maroon and gold blood cells ahahaha. i'm all about friendly competition. may both teams stay healthy. both schools are rich in their football programs. until this week and come the end of the 48 mins of game play(less it goes longer) i will support russell, but at 7 30 the battle lines are drawn lol. god i love football season

Russell goes 7-3 tonight!
Anybody can type a record. Why don't we wait until they play before that is posted. I hate trash talk.

I just hope the kids realize that Raceland is going to play well, they are going to score TD's. The important thing is to not get discouraged and keep plugging away. Ive seen teams come back from 35 down. Too often this team just gives up when something doesn't go there way. If you keep playing hard and putting out full effort, your breaks will come.
The line needs to take some pride in not letting anyone get to AJ, give him and your reciever's time, Russell's pass plays are typically long developing. this team needs to show a little pride.
going back to the discussion of the running back by committee, I agree, Drew should be the main back, but Kasey and Gross were basically the only backs they had in the backfield. That isn't the case with this team, everyone in the backfield has shown they can take it to the house on any play. The pass game is there if the oline would do a little blocking and AJ needs to quit worrying about getting hit, if you get hit, get up and brush it off, none of those Raceland kids hit hard enough to hurt ya anyways. Have a little pride in your abilities and toughness.

Ive seen them play, and no none of them hit hard enough to hurt ya. Actually in all honesty, there is not nearly as much pad popping in area games as there was a few years ago. Hopefully there will be Friday.

Bailey was a big key to last years game! Here is hoping he can contribute tonight after an injury!
10-31-2008, 09:31 AM
Raceland is a hard team to prepare for. They will run the spread, They will come with the I-formation, The wish-bone, The full house, They've even run some plays out of your beloved wing-t. When they break the huddle on any given play it's hard telling what formation they will line up in......That is unless they are going no huddle. I think The Russell people that haven't seen Raceland play are going to be suprised at how good Raceland is. They are honestly close to Beechwood level this year. If their pass defense was as good as their run defense I would give Raceland the State title hands down. Racelands pass defense is absolutely horrible. I can see mitchell Streaking for a couple of long ones tonight.

My last thoughts on this game.
I think alot of people in the area have been too quick to get down on this Russell team. They are not as bad as some people think and others hope. The losses have been to three really good teams. All are games that they could have won.
Have they played up to their potential every week? No they haven't. Most of the problems have been mental mistakes though. Those illegal procedure penalties are killers and have to stop. Special teams has to pick it up. Last week was the punting unit and the kickoff coverage has been suspect all year.
As for tonights game I think its going to be a real slugfest. Both teams are going to be well prepared and the fans of both should be in for a real treat.
I don't know which team will win but I do think that whichever side wins it will be by a TD or less.
Guys, get together and play the game the way it is meant to be played. Do that and you will be fine.

No more cabbage for you.
Beechwood would beat Raceland by three TDs.
Before any of the other Raceland fans think I am picking on the Rams, Beechwood would beat Russell by 3 TDs as well.
They are just that good. Its not that either of these teams are bad.
I hope you are right about Mitchell taking a couple for TDs. I think it will be a little to cold to be streaking though. That is also something that I really don't want to see. Might hurt the ego. Gonna be cold enough to where the shrinkage factor would take effect.

If my memory calls correct Gross & Clark got the most carries out of those classes also and with #13 Abrams averaging over 7 yrds a carry. It looks like he is running North & South instead of East & West. I believe the Wing-T is made to turn up field on cutting back across the grain in the thick of it the battle. Maybe this is how #13 gets his yardage? :Angry07:
This team sounds like it has not to come together yet as a team and accepting each others roll to make it better.
Maybe a little :Sad04: :Sad04: might be going on.
This is just what Raceland wants. It would be a disgrace to be the team that Raceland beat in the HANK/ Ivan McGlone field. And with the most losses hung on a Russell team in ages. Get it together and put the skilled positions to work IF they are there. Raceland will never let you live it down for the rest of your life. All seniors and Captains need to play the best each & every down cause this is your team.
Yeah. What would I be jealous about? I'm not even in highschool. Just from watching games it seems that Drew has holes the size of Semis to run through. Ofc hes gonna avg 7.3 yards a carry, heck we might as well put mikey or drew miller back there if you have holes that size. They could avg 7.3 yds a carry. I feel that if Drew Miller was left tackle and zack was right tackle then you all would be arguing that Bailey is the feature back. It all starts at the line and right now the puzzle is not solved. You can blah blah blah about statistics on avg yards a game and blah blah blah about avg yards a carry but what has been happening? Teams that are actually good and have good d lines and how many points have we scored? how many games we won? Drew is a good runningback dont get me wrong but from now on we will not be facing horrible teams and I just feel your not gonna see so much from Drew. JMO I think maybe putting Will Rice at HB would be good choice. Hes quick and is use to traffic cause of his LB spot. People who are bickering about no leadership need to open their eyes.
