Maybe Pikeville should realize they are not the team they had 20 some years ago. They are not a state wide quality team. They should quit scheduling games like they are. They beat up on teams that are lower than they are in talent, then get the same thing back when they play better teams than them. Banged up players? Stop making exucses. Every team has banged up players. Maybe a weaker schedule and that wont be a factor.

To start, here are two games that I would pay money to see right now; Pikeville vs. Shelby Valley and Pikeville vs. Pike Central. You would get as much money from the gate at these two games than you would get for taking a beating at Ashland or LexCath. These games are great rivalries. I love to watch Pikeville and SV in basketball. It is a war everytime they play. SV is better usually but just the rivalry brings out a dogfight everytime. It would be a fun football game! The same goes for Pikeville vs. Pike Central, great rivalry with a packed house everytime....and I think these games would be very competitive right now.

could not agree more bball fan these would be 2 fun games 2 watch.

Clark is playing football just injured right now. Layne and Keene play baseball only. As for Rowe and Boyd. Rowe could definately help but Boyd has never played. As I said earlier, besides Rowe, the basketball team is very small. I just don't see where the football Panthers need any more little guys out there running around!

Pikeville should just go ahead and drop football if it ever gets so bad that they fill their nondistrict schedule with SV and PC. If you schedule those teams you might as well play East Ridge, Knott County Central and Williamson too.

Injuries and morale are two things that have this Pikeville team lower than whaleturds right now. I bet if you trade these two for SV and PC, it would be a different story. They would be 4-2, much healthier, and the community would be off of their back!

I really agree. However, I think you could keep a real strong team and drop one of them. The attitude that Pikeville is so much better than Shelby Valley or PC is old. Both are bigger schools with just as many athletes. The only thing separating Pikeville from these two schools the last couple of years has been Harmon and the Honakers. They still have Harmon, but it would really be a toss-up this year between these three. Pikeville might be a slight favorite if Harmon was healthy, but not by much.

But it is rediculous that the people who schedule games book Lex. Cath and Belfry when they've beat up on them the past 4 or 5 years.
And IMO its stupid that Pikeville will schedule Lex. Cath and Ashland who are over an hour and 1/2 away and 4 & 5A schools but wont play right down the road Valley and Pike Central who would be great games with the same school size.
But i do give them scheduling bigger and better teams make you stronger and more competitive to release the graditude on the weaker schools.

No way Pikeville plays SV or PC, Pikeville has too much to lose and the county schools have too much to gain.
Pikeville problem is the county has caught up. New athletic facilities and quality coaches, not to mention that some county schools test scores are getting close to Pikeville's or beating them = no reason to go to Pikeville anymore.

LOL, put the crack pipe down. SV and PC have not made ANY progress in football, Pikeville just is down due to bad hiring. And no, Pikeville's test scores are still way above the county, especially the ACT scores...

I'll be 100% honest with YOU, my child would either go to Belfry or Pikeville if he was old enough right now, but you need to put the crack pipe down.
SV is making strides, PC, well I'll give that one to you.
Tell me exactly why an athlete would go to Pikeville?
Basketball? No
Football? No
Baseball? Maybe
Pikeville and Ashland were the powers in Eastern Kentucky when it came to sports, sadly for some things have changed................

You said NO reason to go to Pikeville. Academics are a big reason. Athletics, not so much until some changes are made. And maybe none will be made.
Oh, and SV still stinks in football...

The reason all the boys listed that are not playing football is simple: they want a life 20 years ago kids had nothing more to do than sports that is why most kids played all three sports. now there is computers, video games and text messaging so they can keep up with there girlfriends. the only way to get kids back out to play all three sports or at least two is to give them there time off between seasons. if they want it bad enough they will hit the weight rooms on there own Prime example : Elisha Justice the kid has a dream and he will make it come true

Kentucky Core Content Test -
Elementary-
Pike Co. - 15 school avg. 100.8
Pikeville - 1 school 102.2
Middle School-
Pike Co. - 10 school avg. 96.7
Pikeville - 1 school 98.9
High School -
Pike Co. - 5 school avg. 80.4
Pikeville - 1 school 82.4
The gap has closed my friend, the difference in academics is hair thin considering Pike County has 9,000 students and Pikeville has 1,000.

Not hair thin, and number of students doesn't matter. The number of teachers and administrators is many many times higher in the county as well.
Here's some ACT scores for you, with a big difference...
School Avg. ACT Rank (out of 232)
Pikeville HS 20.0 23
Belfry HS 17.8 122
Shelby Valley HS 17.7 128
Pike Central HS 17.3 160
East Ridge HS 17.1 167
Phelps HS 16.3 208

Point is Pikeville's days of being a powerhouse are long gone . The county schools like Valley have caught or past them. Thats why they dont play Valley . Its easier to explain being beat by Ashland or Belfry .

Valley doesn't have one single win against a decent team in the history of their program, and none on the horizon either.

Maybe someday Valley will drop to 1A . This seems to be the only way they could get a game with the Pikeville .

Valley has improved over the last few years. People can say what they want about Saunders but he's doing a good job.

Kinda thought Valley gave Belfry a better game than Pikeville . Both Valley and Pikeville had starters out when they played Belfry.

Who in the world have the county schools beat? There is only one outstanding football school in the county. (Belfry). As bad as they are P'ville is second and the rest on trying. By the way everyone keeps talking about these class A school should not be playing these 4 and 5 A's... No one ever says that about basketball. Is it that we expect more from our basketball teams?

ow is Pikeville second?

Id love to see all these boys play but I respect why they dont. If your heart isnt into something its
not going to do you or your team any good by just going out there and playing because everyone else is. If you dont love this game and truly WANT to play it you better not step on that field because youre just gonna get embarrased. Desire is something that cant be put into someone nor can be taken out by ANYONE. If these boys truly WANTED to play theyd be out there.

i can see supporting your team, but when its 30-0 people aren't going to be cheering very much.
