Breathitt County 47 - Harlan County 7
#31
Mama Bear Wrote:I really don't think that was it. The boys just didn't get it done. Got behind, hung their heads and it was as nasty as the weather. They've got 2 weeks to get it together. They play Powell on Oct. 10th. Breathitt is a really really good team. We just .....I dunno, it was NOT the team we have been watching. Breathitt was a much better opponent than what they had beaten and they knew this coming in, they just played bad. I felt bad for the coaches. Saw a lot of old habits last night that I thought we'd overcome.

We'll just have to wipe the blood from our mouth and get ready for Powell. I hope they remember this loss and learn from it.
The Bears will be fine, but they have a couple of huge games coming up because they want the 2 seed in the playoffs because the 3 seed will have to travel to Somerset, who is the best in this district even though they were upset by TC. Good luck to the Bears.....Love the uniforms....

The key word i used is shocked. I did not think Breathitt was capable of such a feat this year. If they meet again in the playoffs by chance then it will be a completley different game. This is unfathomable really what happened. The Bobcats should savor this one because a win with this kind of spread against this magnitude of opponent will not likely happen again.
#33
Great win for the Bobcats!
#34
I mean no disrespect to Breathitt Co. The game was a blowout and i am just moonstruck!!!! Breathitt has a tough schedule and they are holding there own Harlan Co. was flat over taken by something other than football. I need to tie a rag around my head to keep from drooling because my mouth is agape!!!!!
#35
i think that harlan county needs to let #2 glenn roberts run the ball a little more. when he gets going he can move the ball. that boy has a head like a rock.
#36
I agree Goldylox. He's so tough with the ball and does a great job blocking also. He never quit last night!
#37
Breathitt looks like they got it finally turned in the right direction.
#38
Breathitt played to their capabilities on both sides of the ball. Harlan laid down once they got behind!

I believe that is a fair assesment of what happened. Hope I don't have to see that happen ever again. It was painful.Sad

What you witnessed is what everyone expected Breathitt to do this season. After the Estill game they were "taken behind the woodshed" and brought back to life. They have played top notch competition all year and little mistakes have gotten them beat and about got them beat against a good Estill team. The outlook will be the same if they play 9 more times if you go by numbers. Belfry and Sheldon Clark struggled with Lawrence and Boyd beat Lawrence. Breathitt desroyed Boyd before the Estill game. The previous year Breathitt had beaten Estill twice badly and it seems they were overlooking them, not to take anything away from Estill. Everyone was worried about the "Mercer Co. treatment", I said from the beginning of the season, it was not going to happen. Cawood, Evarts, and Cumberland are not Harrodsburg and Mercer with two explosive teams and three 1000 yard rushers, plus they play in the east where the toughest football is played.

The Bears didn't show up, but they will overcome this and be ready when the playoffs come around. Coach Larkey and Staff have a battle on their hands picking these young mens spirits up, making the corrections, and getting them FOCUSED and ready to play Powell County. They do have two weeks to do just that. I expect to see the Harlan County Black Bears explode back on the scene in Powell County. GO BEARS!!!!!!!!

You shouldn't have any trouble with Powell.I watched them Friday night. They have a good record with 1 loss but they play NOBODY outside the district. This kind of schedule hurts you down the road.We WILL destroy them.

Good luck playing Powell I wish them the best. But You "WONT" destroy Belfry if you make it that far to play us.

Breathitt was pretty impressive in Harlan County Friday Night!

I believe he was talking about destroying Powell County. Great game by the bobcats. Channing is given the opportunity to completely take the game over and he did. He had over 300 yards of total offense by himself. Jade also had 144yds rushing with a rushing TD. The passing game finally showed up. Breathitt's receivers were able to hold onto the ball, which was a huge difference from the previous week.
#47
Harlan went out thinking they were tough but they were wrong. They just need to go out stronger next week.
#48
I was really surprised at this one. I really thought it would be a closer game. Congrats to Breathitt.

I always I'm one to talk great about the Black Bears, but I just thought that this week the Bears got out COACHED, Played in every part of the game. I think we have a good coach but I thought he did a poor job of getting our guys ready to play. Before the game I seen a lot of the players walking around the tailgating and just hanging out. I thought they should have been in the field house watching film and still getting their mind right until they started getting ready. I thought our coaches didn't do a very good job of play calling. I thought they were a couple times that they should have declined penalties and took the down, but lets be honest if you can't score from the 10 yr line than your not going to win anyway. Really the half time score should and could have been 21-29. I also thought that the defense we played wasn't the best. We set in a 4-3 cover 2 all night and never got out of it. When you play BC you got to stop #28 and make them pass the ball and we just never did that. Once #28 broke one tackle and the line of scrimmage in was a 20yr run before Harlan County even had a chance to tackle him and they didn't. We also don't need to run, run, run punt every time when we get down a few scores. That being said I want to see how our coaches come back after this. I think they need a little more discipline!!!!!!

Not sure I would second guess a coach who has made it to the state championships a couple of times. It is apparant he knows what he is doing with his past record. You guys got Breathitt at their penticle and anyone in 3A that plays them when they are at their best will have a tough time with them. Breathitt should walk to the Regional Championship before having to play in the semi's, if they keep it at this level.

You should learn to count. They played lots of 5 man front and 3 man front with the blitzer they use as well. I guarantee if one of the coaches gave you a marker, you couldn't draw us three plays they ran all night long.
#52
I'm still nauseous from what I witnessed Friday night. There were a lot of factors in what happened in this game IMO, the biggest factor being that the boys we have been watching for the past 4 weeks did not show up to play a team the caliber of Breathitt; where did our Black Bears go???

They were intimidated I think; most of the boys played like they were afraid and just totally gave up once they got behind and missed a couple of very good opportunities to score. There was the hype and excitement of the very first home game for the new school, the rain, the fact that we played without our starting QB, who is a good passer and probably could've opened up our running game a little with some connections on some passes, just a lot of factors. I know this has been stated in the past, but let's remember though that these boys have not all played together in the past, much less in a game of this magnitude. They do not have the experience/composure that Breathitt has from playing together for years.

I think if the boys can take this total butt kickin' and learn from it and grow together from it, it might be a totally different story if we meet Breathitt again down the road, not saying we would blow them out, but I do think our boys can play a WHOLE lot better than they showed Friday night. I am still proud and love all our boys....now let's get it together these next two weeks Bears and get ready for Powell Co.

No I wouldn't I just played 4th-12th grade 4 years of college which I'm sure you didn't and also coached for many years! So when you want to talk football call me and I'll teach you the diff from 5 man front and 4 man :dontthink Sorry to make you guys mad but thats just what I seen. Like I said I think we have a good coach he just didn't have a good game plan last week.
#54
I do think we will come back and get it started again. Our standing is 3-2 and not so bad.
#55
There is no doubt that the Bears were far from playing to their capabilities. They would've gotten their tails handed to them by the weakest of teams Friday Night. This wasn't the Black Bear team that we have been seeing. They were not focused, but I bet they will be. They missed an opportunity. Will they earn another, thats the question. GO BLACK BEARS!!!!!! RISE AND REDEEM!!!!

Who really cares about Belfry at this point? Belfry has nothing to do with anything and does not belong in this discussion...(See Thread Topic)

I don't really know where you played, but you sure didn't learn anything about counting while you were taking classes there. Everytime there were two backs it was a 5 man front. One back/sometimes 4 man/sometimes 3 man. Get your facts straight. There were some injuries to a couple of starters which could have limited what they did, but you were probably too busy trying to count to 5 to notice that I am sure.

Like I said 4-3 cover 2 and if you watched the game BC for the most part stayed in a gun with 1 back.:lmao: When they did get under the center they bumped down to a five man front. Sorry to get you upset I thought this was was a open forum say what you want. It doesn't really matter now, anyhow they got beaten and wasn't ready to play!!

Get back to the game not what I believe.
