Will Tate Cox Transfer?
#31
I say Tate will be at JBS next year. There are rumors that him and the big boy are both going to KCC but you know about rumors.
#32
Come to Pikeville lol

COMMENTARY POST: I really get tired of reading threads asking "Will so and so transfer?" without any fact other than just talk.

The season ended what? Two days ago for this particular team...let the kid live his life and allow he and his family decide what his future holds without having his future discussed on an open forum.

I'm sure IF anyone decides to transfer or move to another district you'll hear about it first here on BGR.

Again, just my opinionated rant this morning.
#34
uhh yea I guess, I dont see him staying.
#35
I would love to see Cox transfer to hazard...but i dont see that happening...

RavenBoy Wrote:He wont go to Kcc because its the Stamper show their. The only way I see him leaving JBS is if Collins leaves as well. If Collins and Cox stay at JBS they will have a better chance next year than this year. Yea they wont have Clark Stepp and that might be better for them. Clint Stepp just shoots 3's and thats it. That means Cox will the PG and MAYBE actually run the team right.

I agree with you. The only way KCC would get one is if they got both. If Cox and Collins was at either KCC or JBS it'd be the same almost, Stepp is to JBS as what Stamper is to KCC.

Exactly.

If Tate Cox did end up going to Shelby Valley next year then the 15th region will be no contest for them. SV will already be great, but if this addition did happen they will be unreal, and maybe make some noise at state.
#41
Icould definitely see Cox fitting well with SV. Would love to see him there.

There would be no contest for a lineup of

Elisha Justice
Tate Cox
Logan Bryant
Taylor Newsome
Ashley Hatfield

Bench
Curby Tackett
Tyler Newsome
Cody Varney

I am tired as well as to this thread EVERY SINGLE SEASON! Tate is a very talented player to say the least. But I don't feel sorry for him because of the Stepps and all the critiqueness that is thrown at JBS and the Stepps. Tate and his family knows and have known the way it is there and if they didn't like the way it is and was, then it isn't like they don't have the option to transfer every season. What most of you need to realize is....MAYBE TATE IS HAPPY WHERE HE IS AT. Leave it up to him and quit "TRYING TO TALK TATE INTO BEING UNHAPPY". If he was, then he would have left A LONG TIME AGO! Give it a rest and let the boy enjoy being in high school, playing a game that he loves, and trying to live a normal life.
#44
Why? He will be the man next year now that "Shotgun Willie" is gone.

Who said anything about Tate not being happy? Everyone knows that he could Transfer if he wanted to. The question is if he is going to?
Im pretty sure players dont get on here to take advice from people.

sacbunt Wrote:I have heard that Knott County is a direct possibility, but he would have to move somewhere other than where he is now to be eligible anywhere else.
I really dont think that is true. JBS doesnt have a school district, unless you live on ALC campus. If you live outside the college campus, you are out of their district. If something happened, like the parents couldnt afford the tutition, they they wouldnt have any choice but to send him back to public school.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It is the size of the fight in the dog.

I would say if he goes anywhere it will be where he could go to state. He wouldnt make it to state if he transfers to Knott. Id say if he dont stay at JBS, he will go to SV or Hazard.
#48
well hopefully if he doesn't go to kcc then he will leave the region and go to sv

Well it has been a while because I havent been on here in a long time but I will give my 2 cents on the Tate Cox situation and season as a whole. These are my honest observations and quite accurate I think.
First of all there is a 99% chance that Tate will transfer. There is a 1% chance that he would stay but the chances of a coaching change are very remote because Joe Stepp will not leave the playing time of Clint to chance. Tate has a free ride to any school that he chooses to go to because of legal reasons that most of you probably have heard about. This is not a rumor but a legal fact. With that being said Tate like all other players on the team have strong resentment towards the Stepp family because of what they did to a special group of young athletes. When you are around the Stepp family for long it is not hard to figure out that they will sell their souls to the devil and sacrifice the other kids on the team for their own selfish goals. Tate is fed up with the lies about how this year would be different and how they were going to play better team ball and develop an insided game which was also a lie. Tate will transfer this year and it will be to either Knott or Hazard for a fact. It just depends on a few things that will make this decision for him. I think that all Tate and the other kids on the team wanted was just to play team ball and the Stepp clan made a decision to concentrate on their own personal goals instead of the goals of a team.
The person that is the most to blame in this fiasco is Joe Stepp and not the pawns that he used for coaches in Jim and Gary. Joe has sacrificed the lives of other people many times for the sake of his own selfish ambitions. The sad thing is that he is supposed to be smart and yet he was to dumb to realize that the things that he was doing to this team made Clark look terrible at times and made people resent Clark when all he was doing is what he was told. Clark has commented a number of times that he just wished that he could play team ball and not worry about basketball 24 hours a day. Joe would not let that happen because it went against all the goals he had planned for Clark all his life.
It is really sad to think how good this group of kids could have been and I really feel for Garrsion,Trey,Tate, and Brent Hall especially and to all of those other kids who sat on the bench watching the game with Clark playing in the 4th quarter with a 20-40 point lead because they had not gotten him his 26 points a game average. It used to be funny when Gary would go and ask the bookkeeper how many points Clark had so they would know when to pull him. Alot of people ask why someone like Jim Stepp would coach like this and the answer if real easy....money....because Jim works for Joe as Vice President of Alc and he makes a very big salary. Gary also has a position with the institution and actually does not even teach a class but gets a big income with free housing and free food.
With all of this said I would ask that no one feel bad towards the school or the kids or even Clark because they all are just victims of the evil ways of Joe Stepp. I think that everyone has to answer for the things that we do in life and I think Joe will have to answer for the things that he has done to the lives of some very good kids. These kids that he has affected will hopefully learn a valuable life lesson that sometimes the actions of others affect the goals that you have worked so hard for and that you have to pick up the pieces and become a stronger person because there are unfortuantely alot of people like Joe out there. This is no the end for these kids but the beginning because the alot of kids on this teams will spread out to other high schools or colleges and dont be surprised when people say they have better college than high school careers because in high school most were not playing on a level field. Good luck to all these kids and to whoever wins the 14th region because I will be down at Rupp supporting the 14th region as I always do.

Having known Tate and watching him play since he was in the second grade, I really and truly feel deep regrets for him that some adults and the public has taken from him the fun and enjoyment that comes with playing and being successful at the GAME of basketball. I remember the Tate Cox from last year that was able to step in and control the Crusaders offense when Clark was stopped by other teams, this resulted in the Crusaders making a run to the State tournament in Rupp. This past summer and earlier in the sesaon, playing against the bigger and higher ranked schools, his performance during the WYMT tourn. , if it had not been for Tate Cox,s leadership by his play on the floor, the Crusaders would not have achieved what goals they did this season. That being said, I know Tate has some strong ties to the other players that are still on the JBS team and he knows that there is enough athletes and good enough players that under his leadership that he could lead them back to Rupp again. But for this to happen IMO there would have to be a coaching change and the Stepps get back from the Basketball program and let a coach that knows the kids, is familiar with the team, and will be dedicated to putting the players first and making the JBS Crusaders the contender for the 14th region title and go deep into the Tourn. at Rupp.. IMO the coach would use all of the players strengths for instance Garrison height and inside presence, Brent Hall hard nosed inside play on both ends of the court, Clints ability to shoot the three and his speed and athletic ability, the experience and play of the younger kids brings to the team, and under the floor leadership of one of the BEST point guards in the state, Tate Cox, the Crusaders would develop into a team with great potential and very exciting for the JBS fans to get behind, support and be proud of. If Tate stays at JBS and the above mentioned coaching changes happens , I will predict there is a 100% chance of the above mentioned events happening . IMO I hope he stays, plays with his team mates, and the becomes the player that we all know he has the talent to become. Good luck to Tater and whatever the future holds for you in what decision you make.

There are some legal issues going on. Tate has been given a blanket release to transfer if he choses

The talk that I am hearing and big talk it is, yes he will transfer along with Collins. Collins will attend Letcher county central. They both would of last year if it wasn't for the fact that they wanted to try and go back to state back to back years and they really thought they had the chance to do it. Well it didn't work out for them so the JBS ride is over.
Cox will go to..........................Knott County Central to run the point for the Patriots who will have not 1 but 3 of the best players in the Region next year. Stamper will gladly give up the point to become the shooting guard and get all the plays ran for him. The 3rd addition to the team still has to get through a couple of appeals from the KHSAA to be eligible at any school, but when he does Eric BAck will be the 3rd guard on this KCC team, that will be loaded with guards and be able to run all over the teams in the 14th. But the best part of this plan is being put togther behind the scenes by there NEW COACH. Since his team is the favorite of the 14th region tourney and is still playing, I'll not release his name as of yet, but Knott will have a new coach on the sidelines again next year and he will take the Patriots back to the hard court of Rupp Arena once again like in the 90's. Should be a great off season to see all the moving take place here in the 14th region. Between coaches and players it should be fun to watch.

I would love to see Tate at Valley. Why is he headed to KCC or Hazard for a fact? Why did they rule out SV? Either way, those kids have been a special group when they played AAU together (Garrison included, and also Clint for one year). They still have that chemistry esp. since they have at least one of their coaches on the valley bench whom they have known most their basketball life.

Knott County wouldnt even go to state with Tate Cox and Collins playing for them next year. Nobody will touch Hazard if they stay together. If Hatcher stays at Perry look out for them as well. If I were Tate Cox and Collins, I would join up with the NWO baby. The Hazard Bulldogs. Why not go to the State Tournament and WIN it. With that kind of team and depth, they would probably go undefeated at Hazard next year. God only know who they will bring in at Knott County next year. Hey why dont they bring back the great Harold Combs and let him coach again. I remember when he coached at Napier, what a joke.

If he goes to KCC it will not just be the Stamper show. He would then have another scorer to help him. He would probably run the point therefore he would have it in his hands a lot more. Also, Stamper is not selfish, Sometimes he tries to do too much, but most of the time the other boys didnt want the ball. I thought the big boy inside, had started to be more aggresive and wanted the ball, and they got it to him. I thought the Ratliff boy had some big scoring games too. An addition of Cox would make this team much tougher than what they already will be next year. Not to mention they are a very good boys on and off the court, which Tate would fit right in.
