its a pun.. its a play... its making fun of people who say the refs were the reason for the loss... and not the players.

any game that a 14th region ref calls is a bad called game. I know they can't see everything that happens on the floor but they can't be that bad unless its on purpose. We have had some really bad calls playing against teams that when we played on neutral courts and had neutral refs that we won. And played the same teams with the 14th refs and can never win, If that is whining about losing so what, everybody does it.

14th Regional tournament held at Powell Co a few years ago....worst officiating I've ever seen anywhere....all in favor of the home team. I was just a spectator, didn't have a team in the games. In fact, didn't particularily care who won. But still, that was the worst I've seen. Huge free throw differential and even one foul called after the horn went off to put the home team on the line, where they won the game by a point from the free throws.

The game included multiple technicals, a floor riot with multiple arrests and a dictatorial announcer that incited things instead of helping them.

There were no rails seperating the spectators from the floor....and it was a tightly packed highly charged atmosphere.

I also think that Powell beat a top ranked Louisville Shawnee team a couple of decades ago due to the home team shooting 60 or 70 free throws.

The thing that got me about this game was that during the second quarter when Breathitt was up about 15 points Coldiron (Powell's coach) was almost at the free-throw line screaming, hollering, stomping his feet while play was still going on, and another instance he grabbed an official as he was running down the side line (the ref just pulled away from him). NOTHING WAS CALLED.

Why don't you join the 14th region association and help. We need a few good men and women to referee. Knowing the rules and intrepreting them is vital to the game ,and with your insight ,could only better the entire region. I have Tommy Hall's home number if you need it?

The thread has nothing at all to do with a specific game. Its merely a question about why people always blame the refs when their teams loses.

If I wanted to know about a bad call, certain game, etc.. I would have asked about it.

I get what your saying Mr. President. Here's my take on the situation. I think its all in how we watch the game being played. If your team is on offence then your watching from that perspective. In other words your watching more closely the guy with the ball. If your team is playing defence your still watching your players more closely. So, you see the game in a different light to the opponents fans. Each teams fans are watching in game from a different point of view. If the home team wins it was a great game. If they loose it's often because they saw something the other fans didn't.... usually the refs.

Yep, I remember all that. And I also remember that Powell shot about 46 freethrows and Breathitt shot less than 20.

I think you have to put the "worst called" games in perspective. If it's a regular season game it shouldn't have the same magnitude of a post-season game. When you lose in the first round of the district, for instance, it's one and done.

That said, the most memorable bad called games that I can remember seeing were at the state tournament...the BIG stage!

1987. Pleasure Ridge Park vs. Hazard in the semifinals, a trip to the state championship game at stake. One bad call after another. At the end of the game a Hazard player was obvoiusly mugged on a breakaway layup, knocked to the floor and nothing called. This followed many other calls and no calls against Hazard. The Rupp crowd of almost 20,000 stood, booed, and threw stuff on the floor for 30 minutes after the game was over. That many people can't be wrong, and they weren't.

1999. Scott County defeats Paducah Tilghman in the semifinals. Tilghman was getting hammered by a 13th region ref (Scott's coach was from Harlan County, the same county the ref was from:mad: ) and everything came to a climax in the closing minutes. The whole 4th quarter was a boo-fest from the Rupp crowd, the one-sided officiating was so bad. Then with time running out, Tilghman with the lead, a foul was called after Scott's Hundley clearly went over the back of a Tilghman player after a shot attempt. The whistle blew, and Hundley even held his hand indicating he fouled, but to Hundley's, and a packed Rupp Arena crowd's surprise, the ref called the foul on the Tilghman player, even though he was in front of Hundley on a block out and Hundley went over his back. How the official could possibly call the foul on the player who was blocking out, when the other player crashed over his back, is unbelievable! The Rupp crowd exploded, booing for what seemed like an eternity. Scott shot free throws on the other end and eventually won the game. I really felt sorry for the Paducah coach. His team and fans did not deserve that. The 13th region has a really bad record of this type of thing happening in tournament games. IMO they are the worst region in the state as far as officials are concerned.

You'd have to see the tape man, it's obvious. We lost to Shelby Valley in that same game the year before (2002). Refs had nothin to do with that game, we just flat out got beat by the better team. That wasn't the case in the 2003 championship game.

You got beat by the better team both times... I have watched the tape and can't even find controversial calls little on biased calls. But as I have told you before, I would gladly sit down with you and let you point out to me where the cheating occured...

You would because you were a graduate of Shelby Valley and you despise Paintsville because they shelled your hind end when you took the mound against them. Don't sit there and say it wasn't you either because Josh Bentley told us it was. I wish Redneck would post the tape on youTube so you all could see some of the stuff that he is talking about. I never blame the refs either, sometimes they have off nights and sometimes they don't call it both ways. In this game Paintsville shot like 5 free-throws and Shelby Valley shot almost 30. I'm not going to say the refs cheated Paintsville that night, I'll just say they caught the Tigers on more touch fouls than any other game they played that season.

And I will just say that I honestly have only heard one person complain about the officiating in this game... Other than that this is the first time. I mean I guess years change the way you remember things, but I would be willing to bet my two regional championships that I could sit down with every important person at the KHSAA and watch this film and they would all agree it was fairly called.

Read the first post, and about every other one since and you'll come to this conclusion.
