It's also funny that after that game fans from all over the region, fans of different teams said the same things I did earlier. Shelby Valley kicked our butt in the 2002 region championship, I'm man enough to admit that. Why can't you be man enough to admit the refs gave the 2003 championship to Valley on a silver platter.
I guess it's just a matter of opinion. Maybe Paintsville should have sucked it up and played harder after those first couple of minutes of "bad calls" instead of saying it was going to go to SV regardless of how hard they played.
Guess it won't change anything either way.

I like to refer to this phenomenon as the parentally distorted view. You can substitute whatever for "parentally" such as grandparently, neighborly, temporary fans or what ever.
I for one have never been unbiased at a sporting event for long. I have to pull for somebody even if I was rooting against them the night before. Its usually the underdog if my teams not in it and "the refs always make sure my newest favorite team doesn't win!!!"

I titled it "Ref Bashing", and I started the first post by asking why everyone felt the need to always blame the officials.
You know what happened? Exactly the same thing that happened here. Everyone got on the thread to moan and complain about how the refs hated their team, and cheated them out of some game. The discussion I was hoping to start never materialized.
Its absolutely mindblowing. Even after they find out what its about, they keep doing the same thing. Heck I might as well just join in and talk about the bad called games I've saw. It was every single one we ever lost while I was in high school... and every one that they've lost since I left as well.

Your own cousin (do I need to say his name or would you rather me keep it to myself) came up and gave me a hug and congratulated me on a great season and told me to keep my head up cause the refs stole that one from us. I'm sure he never blamed refs either but he saw somethin in that game that wasn't right.

Kinda like Riverside holding the District.Powell seats as many as Breathitt, and can comfortably PARK many more than Breathitt, or Hazard for that matter. They seat 1000 more than Hazard, but I haven't seen you complain about Hazard's small seating and terrible parking conditions...you're too focused on "rails" and "referees". Powell is more adequate to host the region than Breathitt or Hazard. But I would like the region to continue to be held at Breathitt and Powell. But i suppose the 56th should be left out of all 14th region tournament consideration.
Powell ain't alone, but I just mentioned them because 'the worst officiated games' that I've seen were held there. And yes, there is a history of it going back for several decades.
I think it should be a 4 year rotation with each 14th region district getting a turn in the rotation. Have it at Powell (56th) this year, and then allow the other 3 districts to host it at their largest gyms. The 55th would be at Breathitt, the 54th at Perry, the 53rd at Knott. Take Letcher and Hazard out of consideration. All 4 districts get a representation, and that's the fairest way to do it.

Another phenomenon I've noticed is people using the phrase "Those senior boys from ______ worked so hard and gave everything they had, it's a shame they lost the game because of the refs."
This one gets me too. As though the seniors on the other team didn't work hard and give it their all, so they didn't deserve the win.

Its funny that everyone is talking about Paintsville getting cheated, and then talking about the size of Powell County's gym.
Why hasn't anyone pointed out the Paintsville gym is a stage on one side, and an away team size set of football bleachers on the other....??

No kidding More Cowbell. I'd appreciate the thread to stay on topic, and for people to stop taking cheap shots at other members (including myself) and for some reason, what kind of gym someone plays in.

Or how to spell a user name, talking about taking cheap shots, stuff totally irrelevant to the topic.
It is natural to see every questionable call going the other way, and so at the end of a game both teams fans will often be talking about how the refs were biased (in opposite ways).
Occasionally, there are games where most fans from both teams agree that something was wrong with the officiating. When I'm sitting in the bleachers and the whistle keeps blowing 'my way', I begin to feel it myself. But usually there are counter calls to balance it out.

More than likely out of frustration of losing the big game or to a big rival, they can't stand the thought of losing so the start to blame the refs when in reality the team beat themselves or they simply were outplayed. Refs in any region try to do their best job but they are not perfect and they receive bashing's from all around. Have to respect the job they do though win or lose.
I could not agree more. I know several referees and they are great people with great values. It's a hard job with little pay. I myself have complained about officiating but in the end I think 99% of the refs call it like they see it.

There's more topics on this thread than a Jeapordy tournament of champions. I think the 15th region has always had it's share of horrible called games. On big problem is that we allow alumni of the schools playing to call games involving those schools. This enhances the bad call theory. It allows the rumor mill to spin out of control.
When we allow rough fouls to go uncalled in regular season it leads to our 15th region mountain teams being "one and dones" at Rupp. I think the place to start is quit allowing alumni to calls those games where their high school is involved, then at least the parents will shut up about why their team lost.

If they call games to closely during the season then everyone says that eastern Kentucky's teams cannot compete down state because they are not used to the style of play that is allowed elsewhere. If they allow a rougher style of play everyone gets upset. This includes coaches and fans. We can't have it both ways.

I think one of the reasons we are one and done in the state is because they call to many touch fouls in this region. You can play good defense, block a shot clearly clean, but if your thigh touches the other player they call a foul with the body. If it doesnt interfere with the shot or play, dont call it. As far as the worst officiated game, it would have to be the Knott Co and Letcher Central game tonight. They was already complaining about the refs 24 hours before the game even started.

When the game is over it's over. If your team loses don't blame the refs. Accecpt defeat with dignity and get ready for the next game. It is just a game. Whining about the refs is really petty and who knows they may read these posts too.

I do know that the view that you see a game from sitting in the stands is way different than the one standing on the court. Some games though, the calls seem to fall one teams way more than others. But most of the time, there are good calls and bad calls for both sides. In most games, refs are not a factor, but it has been known to happen before where refs were a big part of a game.
