Also, Stepp has to be rated ahead of Slone because he got his team to Rupp while Slone's team has never won a game in the regional tournament....in three years!! People look at that kind of stuff!!
Remember its not what you did for me last year, but what have you done for me lately and JBS hasnt done anything yet.

The same thing can be said for any team on that list. That is why I dont think preseason rankings mean to much.
Or look at it like this, would a team rather be a preseason top 25 team, or a post season top 25 team?

Very true, I agree with you.

I just think it is interesting that 5 of the top 8 teams are from the 11th region. Including one with a 16-14 record. That team also had 1 vote for being the number 1 team in the state.

I agree completely, having June Buchanan at 12th in the state makes these rankings lose credibility. What have they done to warrant that kind of ranking? They advanced exactly as far in the state tournament as Shelby Valley, yet the Wildcats are nowhere to be found on the list. And don't give me anything about summer ball or preseason scrimmages, those games frequently involve teams missing some important players and may not always be indicative of how strong the teams actually are.
Just to be clear, I am not saying SV should be ranked, or that JBS should not be. All I'm saying is that #12 is too high for a team that didn't do anything special last year to warrant that high a ranking. I think being ranked somewhere from #20-25 sounds about right, with Shelby Valley just outside the top 25.

Preseason rankings are just that...They do not tell what kind of season that a team will have it is just predictions to what a team may do with the players that they have returning from last year, what kind of summer these kids have had, the potential of some of the players on the team, etc. This does not mean that this is how these teams on this list will end at the end of the season but just looks at the potential. If you go by potential I think that JBS deserves to be at #12 but I also think that some other teams like Shelby Valley,Pikeville,Paintsville,Corbin, and others could have deserved to be on this list also. I would have like to seen more mountain teams made the list and I am sure that many of these teams could beat alot of teams on this list. I look forward to some of the mountain teams playing against teams down in the state during the season and I will surely support any mountain team that plays against any team in the Lex/Lou area.

JBS should not be ranked at all. This is a team that lost to a decent Hazard team easily last year in the All A finals and nearly lost to Hazard again in the 14th region finals and once they got to the state tourny lost in the first round by 20. Top 50 yeah, but top ten NO WAY.

It is hard to do anything "yet" when the season hasnt started but they will and as much as it hurts certain people in East Ky Jbs is not going away....

That statement shows how little you know about basketball...They beat Hazard easily in the Wymt and also in the regional finals. You dont base this preseason on last years game but on who teams bring back and how much they have improved over the summer. Last year is over and preseason rankings have nothing to do with last year. It is you opinion if you think JBS should be ranked that high or not but most opinions on here are not based on facts but how an individual feels about a certain team maybe because they are better than their favorite team or whatever. The CJ poll was voted on by coaches across the state and I bet alot of them have played against or watched JBS play and knew that JBS brought all of their starters back from a regional winner team. This JBS team starts 5 guys that will play college basketball at some level. How many times do you see that anywhere in the state. Stepp and Short both have many offers and both will sign this year. People have got on here and said that all of these players might play college ball but it will be at ALC. I doubt if any of the kids out of these 5 will play for ALC. Stepp has already turned down Morehead and will probably sign with a mid-major. Short looks to be destined for Transy or Centre or some other academic institution. Collins,Cox,and Clint Stepp will have many offers as these kids have already been offered scholarships already. This is my last opinion that I will post or read on this matter so have at it....

If he turned down Morehead he's crazy. He will be at ALC and so will little brother. As far as the rest, small NAIA at best. You're obviously a player or coach for JBS and you make me sick. Many offers...that's funny. Oh yeah I forgot about Miss ST. I guess they are still after him. You're a joke.

Still waiting on the reply about the two sr. that graduated or did they matter. Two good players that should have been missed but who cares, right.

ya know i think its crazy that people from eastern ky are bashing jbs....they r a good ball team...if anybody in the 14th region was able to get credibilty in the state...the rest of the region should back them...as far as jbs...look what they dont this summer and preseason...their top 6 are very solid....back a team...congrats jbs elliot and rose hill

To put JBS and Elliott County that high strains the credibility of the Courier-Journal to put it mildly.

I disagree with this post... June Buchanan has a very talented team with an amazing group of guards and an inside presence with 6'6 and 6'9 big men. Elliott County also has a very talented team with very good guards but i think the inside presence is lacking a little bit. To both of these teams credit, they are returning most of their key players back and the trip to Rupp last year was good for them both as they gained experience.

Preseason rankings are a joke. I have never been a fan of the Courier Journal for anything and that includes rankings, all-state honors etc. Let the season play out, time will tell how good all these teams really are.

Didnt JBS beat Madison Central last week in a scrimmage?

They gained experience but got exposed, just as teams from the 14th, 15th and 16th usually do at the Sweet Sixteen. They both should make to Rupp again and get bounced early again. Good luck to them and I pulled for both last year, but if rooting made winners the Cubs would be the Yankees.

The 14th-16th has been bad as of late in the Sweet 16 but i think that JBS, Elliot County, and Rose Hill along with some other mountain teams have alot of young talent, and when they mature i think we'll see one or two of them make some noise in the near future.

It's great that the mountain teams are finally getting reckonized forgood play. The thing that gets me though is, why isn't Hazard mentioned? Many people believe Hazard is #1 in the 14th Region and that's not a biased opinion, I have seen multiple rankings with JBS and HHS with 1a and 1b. I believe thats how the Hazard Herald has it. Where's the love for Hazard at?
