Belfry vs. Johnson Central

Belfry

I believe johnson central is the better team. They've had a tougher road leading up to this battle, theyve taken a tough beating and have capitalized on it. They have played some VERY physical(hard hitting) games, ( Wheelersburg and Woodford). I dont think belfry has played a team all year who is as physical as JC. I'm sure Belfry will pop em right square in the mouth ( i dont expect anything less), but how will they handle the pop right back? Both teams sport great offenses. Belfry has a great running game w/ may and lee, doesnt seem like they throw all that much (JC's weakness by far but has greatly improved since woodford game). JC's has a great running game w/ grimm, richardson and dillion, plus they have ratliff who will bust you with big yards through the air. Both defense's are TOUGH! Belfry has only giving up 94 points total, while JC has giving 163.
(69 point difference) I guess the competition of play could be debated but both teams are in different classes and both had to play who they played after this new alignment. I never dreamed of JC playing a schedule this tough. This is the most waited for game all season long in the mountains. It should be a one to remember.

My prediction JC 36 Belfry 24
When the game is over, I hope both teams are injury free and make a run for the state title in their respected classes.

I have great respect for Coach Matney and JCHS. IMHO centeral is the toughest team the Pirates have faced all year. Grimm is awesome. JC can take the ball and shove it down your throat. They are big, tough and mean. Belfry needs this game they need get back on track and play without the mental errors they have faced in the last few weeks. JCHS is tough BUT my Pirates are no strangers to a fight. Belfry will do what they do best control the clock, drive the ball slowly down the field and punching it in for 6. I think either team could win of course Im picking Belfry to do so.
I hope everyone stays healthy, plays with class and may the best team win.

I hope both teams play to their potential and play injury free. Its almost to close to call but im going to have to go with the Pirates.

What's the record longest field goal in KHSAA?
#36
I belive its 62 yards but i could be off by a yard or two.

I haven't seen Belfry or JC play this year. I've listened to both teams on the air ways though. I have a question for any of you who know both these school's team. How can JC give up 33 points to Ashland and turn around and hold Belfry from scoring at least as many points? Just curious. The predictions on here have Belfry not scoring many points.

It was an unsubstantiated rumor and the thread was off topic.

things like that should not be put on here anyways, unless you know that statment is true

I'm not a moderator and just giving my opinion. But that topic has nothing to do with this game. It will have no bearing on the outcome of this game in any way. I'm not trying to be a smart mouth either. Just stating the facts.

Ashland was a tough team this year but had some trouble putting people in the right positions after losing their QB before the season started. Couple that with a super tought District Schedule and Ashland looks weaker than they actually were.

Neither Dustin May nor Ivan Lee could carry Matt Thomas' jock strap.

And after this game I'm sure the JC fans will agree.

May laid down and gave up last year against Russell, because they busted Belfry in the mouth. Belfry wasn't used to being pushed around and fell apart.

I predict more of the same against JC. Go Eagles!

I agree with everything you said, but you neglect one very important fact when you mentioned Belfry's passing game.

Belfry has had no need to pass the ball... noone has stopped their running game. But, Elkins is just as good of a passer as Ratliff, the Pirates just don't have an Ian Welch at receiver to throw to.

You do realize there is a very good chance you will have to play those Belfry backs at some point down the road don't you?!?!

We tailgate every home game!! We start around 5:30. Everyone brings a dish of some kind and everyone brings their own drinks. We set up in the parking lot between the softball and baseball fields. Its behind the football stadium across the parking lot. You can't miss us.

Been there and enjoyed it very much. They even let us Russell fans come back there and eat with them. (I did bring food to share)

Just My opinion but I think that statement is wrong. Matt Thomas is indeed a great player, but May and Lee aren't far behind him if they are at all.

umm.. Pikeville beat Ashland, and Belfry hammered Pikeville.. Sounds like they could at least carry his jock strap... And remember, last year is last year... Besides, you haven't seen the best of Ivan Lee.. hes improved 200% over last year... Belfry and JC will be a close game and Belfry will not lay down.. Mark my word.

Both teams are excellent rushing teams. JC's passing game is not limited but the only thing I've ever actually seen work was the "Seam" route down the middle of the field to Ian Welch. If Belfry's FS or deep man back in coverage won't bite on the play action and stay in coverage on Welch#3 until he know's for sure what type of play it is, then I see them being able to hang close. I don't know how many times the other night JC ran that play successfully, but they racked up countless yards on that one play. I think it will be a nut buster for sure, every scrimmage that I went to in the past between these two was definately worth it. I'll go with JC by 2.
