What type of insturment or tool are you using to measure the amount of "want" in a team?

The teams I know of they can beat.
East Ridge W
Betsy Layne (definate win)
Allen Cent. W
Estill (???? who knows)
South Floyd (possible win)
I think they'll be Ok as hard as they're working from what I saw.

As far as class A Ball goes, they are about the middle of the road. I think they are real close to Pikeville in the average that the khsaa used to classify schools.
So if a Belfry player and a Phelps player were nose to nose, the Phelps kid "wants" it (to win) more than the Belfry kid simply because his school is smaller?

finepoint.... the way I took it is that Phelps players don't have the "advantages" that larger schools do... Granted... ALL the kids probably want to win or they wouldn't be bustin their tails in the heat everyday practicing.... and by ALL I mean any kid who plays extracurricular activities in ANY school in the county. Phelps has some awesome athletes as do other schools in the county but they just don't have the numbers (enrollment) or the facilities that other schools in the county have. I personally can NOT compare 1 child to another as they are all special...... to be able to get out there and dedicate themselves not only to getting an education but to working their butt off on the field or court for that matter only makes them shine very brightly in my eyes!!

How many kids does Phelps have out? I heard that they had a few quit on them. Seems like a lot of kids are quitting now a days.

All I'm saying is there is no such thing as a "want-o-meter" out there that can measure if one school wants to win more than another. Just like you can't measure who has more heart. ALL schools want to win and ALL schools think they have more heart than anyone else. I wish the hornets all the best and hope that they can pull together this season and show us what their made of. By the way this is a football forum, not here to talk about dance teams.

Here's just a few smaller football plaing schools and a link to enrollment figures:
http://www.khsaa.org/reports/2006and2007...enroll.pdf
School Avg Enrollment 04-06
Phelps 204
Fairview 202
Bethlehem 200
Bellevue 187
Paintsville 167
Harlan 154
Williamsburg 154
Jenkins 147
Again that is just a sampling of small Class A schools.
Here are a couple of more enrollment numbers I thought were interesting:
Beechwood 231
Raceland 224
Hazard 220

Nice numbers BUT..... you have to understand that Phelps numbers include grades 7 and 8 which CAN NOT play with the high school..... they are the Jr. High which plays in the middle school level....

OK, time for a neutral observer to mediate this.
I looked in the Handbook and couldn't find anything about how the numbers are collected / manipulated (VA's handbook explains it). So, I pulled up some of the KHSAA .pdf files and went through them.
/reports/20062007schoolenrollmenttotalsbyenroll has a column labeled C-boys, and /reports/2006and2007averanegschoolenrollmentbyenroll has a column labeled CY4Boy. These are the same thing - the number of boys in grades 9-12 for the 2006-2007 school year (no averages - actual numbers). Phelps had 172. Now, add in 141 girls in grades 9-12 and their total ACTUAL enrollment was 313, which was 7 less than Raceland and 2 more than Holy Cross. (Jenkins had 211)
So the 20062007schoolenrollmenttotalsbyenroll page has schools in order by total enrollment last year of all kids in grades 9-12... I counted 66 schools with fewer students than Phelps.
So, like I told somebody down in Gate City a few months ago, it doesn't matter how many bodies are in the building (theirs is 10-12), what matters is how many the rules say are to be counted.

At 211, Jenkins is 40th smallest. Remember, this is ALL schools, Academies & Christians included.

Ya know... I think that it's not really the numbers(enrollment) that hurt Phelps but it's the amount of kids that come out to play. There is just not a lot of kids who are interested in playing football. Basketball and dance is another story...

UH..... its EVIDENT that they don't want to play AT PHELPS... (I was talking about NO other school FYI) when they don't show up at a practice or sign up to play. I did mean individual players at an individual school NOT the entire 1A school system.... (Hoope that cleared that up for you sandman....).

I think Phelps' 1st team came first and let the 2nd team play a series against the 1st team pound defense.
The score was like 26-14?
