Redneck Wrote:Belfry may have drove the ball to the rim, Paintsville did too, but there were alot of pansy touch calls made against Paintsville. Fouls were PHS 11 - BHS 3 in the first half. You're right though, Landon was pretty much shut down by Case, BUT, Landon still didn't hit the shots he usually does when he was uncontested. Like I said before, Belfry just wanted it more. Paintsville had their chances to win this game but didn't make the plays down the stretch, Belfry did, hats off to the Pirates. Now go lay it to Valley.
When was Landon ever uncontested??? I can only think of 1 time he was uncontested an that was the three he hit... Case shut him down like I said he would...

Im still trying to figure out when was Landon in foul trouble, maybe late in the game when he was fouling to put Belfry on the line. I know I looked up during the third quarter and he had just 1 foul lol. Case had more than that before halftime and still put up 24.

EKY Sportster Wrote:First, I want to congratulate Belfry on the win!!! They did what they had to do and they got it done!
Second, as to my thoughts on the game: I don't think that Belfry played any better than I thought that they would. Paintsville played worse than I thought that they would (although I should be getting used to it by now, lol)
The Tigers came out like deer in headlights and threw the ball away their first few possessions, which helped Belfry jump out to an early lead. Then they settled down and made some runs at Belfry. The Tigers finally took control and the lead at the half. They came out and for the first part of the third quarter had control of the game and got up by 5 on Belfry. They had a chance to increase that lead twice to 7 or 8, but couldn't convert. Then Belfry calls a TO and makes some adjustments and Paintsville starts getting away from what was working and let Belfry whittle the lead back down and regain control for the Pirates. Paintsville then starts playing reckless and Belfry keeps playing consistent and Belfry gets back up on Paintsville. Paintsville cut into the lead some but could never regain control, even though they were within 4 points late in the 4th quarter. That pretty much sums up my observations.
The Tigers had their chances and didn't convert. Belfry was rattled some when Paintsville would put pressure on the ball, but Belfry just played more consistent tonight than Paintsville.
I said before that this was a game that Paintsville could win by 10 or lose by 10 and at times during this game it looked like either was a possibility. But the poor shooting night of Slone killed Paintsville. However, he has had a good season and has nothing to be ashamed about, there are just nights like tonight where nothing falls! It happens to all good players at some point. Maybe the Belfry D didn't help, but Slone definately had an off night despite any defensive pressure.
Third, I was very impressed with Case, but wouldn't quiet give him POY status yet. He is one of the best I've seen this year in the 15th Region though.
Fourth, I think that JD deserves a big  double thumbs up for stepping up and playing one of his best games of the year.
Fifth, I still don't believe that Belfry has a chance against Shelby Valley, BUT I SURE WILL BE CHEERING THEM ON and I wish them the best of luck!
I have seen Paintsville play about 20 times this year, they didnt have a bad game, they just got out played by Belfry PERIOD>>>> Also if case isnt hands down the best player in 15th who is??? An if you Say Landon Slone or Jamie Mccarty I may roll over dead... Yea an if Belfry Doesnt have a chance against Shellby Valley, i wounder why Booher is going around saying to everyone that he diffently doesnt want to be playing belfry??? Dont be surprised when Belfry comes away with another win...

Case or Eric Arnett of Magoffin, he is vey consistant and he lead his team to a 57th district title which is really hard to do, If he does good in the regional tourny then it will be a close race.

He isnt even close to Jamie Case, I have watched arnett play 4 or 5 times this season, Case is Hands Down the top Player in the 15th Region, an he is going to lead his team to a 15th Region Championship...

Am I missing something? I thought the game was over at the end of the fourth (4th) quater. Paintsville was defeated by Belfry. I think the score was 71 to 66. The game occurred on March 5th, 2007....let's move on.
03-06-2007, 06:58 PM
Arnett is a great player but all around he cant match Case. But he is defintley a great player and playing well. I say Arnett will come in third, he probably should be ahead of McCarty but i dont know if he will or not.
03-06-2007, 07:01 PM
I don't think Belfry should already be saying they are going to claim the regional title! They still have two more games to worry about!

And Jamie Case solidified why he is not only the 15th Regon Player of the Year, but the BEST PLAYER in the REGION HANDS DOWN!!!! Big game from Dustin May tonight as well putting in 22 points with numerous rebounds and deflections. Hopefully, BELFRY can continute this run and get another win on Friday!!!! On a side note, Landon Slone is the most over hyped player in the Region. He's not even the best player on his team.I agree about Case he's a Hell of a player, but come on this must be the 1st time you've seen Paintsville play or something if you saying stuff like that about Slone. One game does not tell the story about how good Landon is, I not trying to hype him or anything like that but he averaged around 22ppg 7rpg and 3asst and is the best defensive player in the region, everyones due a bad night from time to time unfortionatly his came in the regional tournament. Just saying don't judge a player by one bad performance.

First thanks for the honesty and support of Belfry, and your right Booher would much rather matched with Paintsville because Paintsville isnt physical and you wont be Valley unless you outmuscle them. Pikeville gives Valley some good games, Belfry is playing as good of defense as Pikeville and as physical as them except they have some offense. Im not saying Belfry will beat Valley, but I'm saying it will be like the Paintsville game a toss up and wont suprise me either way.
By the way to all the Paintsville fans who is supporting Belfry, thanks for the support I would have been for you guys if you pulled it out. BMR is the man, great coach and great guy.

Slone the best deffnsive player in the region??? What the hell are you smoking on??? They are 2 or 3 guys on his team that are better than defense than he is... I have seen him probably as many times as you have, his D is the weak spot of his game... I think it showed last night who the best defensive player in the region was, also the best offensive... You all need to quit suckin Slones Balls an open your eyes....

Actually, that was not the first game I have saw him play this season. I have watched Paintsville play a few times this season and was more impressed with Van Ferguson than anyone else. He is the best player on their team. And you are crazy to think Landon Slone is the best defensive player in the Region. Jamie Case is by far and he just proved it last night by shutting Landon down, only had 8 points total and 4 while Jamie was in the game.

Maybe you should give credit to Jamie Case's lockdown defense he had on him all night. Jamie Case was the best player on the floor last night. Not to mention he is the best player in the 15th REGION!!! CASE closed!!!
You have lost your mind buddy. You say he is not even the best player on his team because the best defensive player in the region shut him down. Had Case been gaurdin VanHoose he wouldn't have even scored at all. I credit Case's hard nosed, lockdown defense for shutting Slone down, Slone rarely got a good look at the basket. That doesn't mean he is overrated. Hell the kid put up 20+ against Bryan Station, Henry Clay and South Laurel and you say he is overrated .

I agree Redneck, the season stats speak for themself. Slone is a great player and a great defender. He is probably the most physical other than Bundy on the team...however, I don't think Belfry should hang on to this win very long or they might be looking at a let down come Friday night....congrats on a great game Pirates and good luck this weekend.

valley will barley beat bl and not be challenged again!!!!!!!!

You're absolutely right about the team player part!! When Landon started forcing things in the 3rd with the Tigers up 5 points and they quit getting JD the ball it gave Belfry all they needed! And yes, Case is the best senior player and one of the best players that I have seen all year in the 15th!
03-06-2007, 09:10 PM
In head to head matchups this year, you are right that Case has outplayed Slone and McCarty. But it wouldn't matter about Slone because he is a Junior. POY should go to a Senior!
03-06-2007, 09:13 PM
???? What are you talking about? Slone was playing in his Region last night!! This is the 15th Region tournament in case you didn't know??
03-06-2007, 09:14 PM
Congrats to Belfry they just flat outplayed Paintsville last night. Paintsville once again needs to learn from this loss. Hopefully this feeling will stay with them all through the next season and that they don't want to feel like this again. It's a tough situation for high school kids to hear how good they are and the expectations that they are pressured to live up to. They really need to work on playing defense and being physical in the post. Good luck Belfry in the remainder of the tournament. Can't wait until next year Paintsville.

Case is good but put him up against teams from lexington and louisville and he would be shut down..and about Slone scoring 8 pts.. look what Case did last year against Valley had what 5 or 7 pts better hope he dont play like that again

Gurur to funny haha.
A Lexington or Lousiville team couldn't shut him down I dont think, slow him some yeah but not shut down. Belfry played a team from Milwaukee that was like a Louisville school I mean huge and very good, they won our tournament but Case even had a nice game against them, and they were big physical boys that play about same way they do in the city. I mean Case probably had around 20 points.
I wonder were he will go to College my guess would be Pikeville, it would ne nice seeing him and Brad Lowe together, and if we can get Landon next year talking about a gun local team.
By the way Im no player so Im sure they let the game go, Im just enjoying some good talk, Paintsville has some basketball smart fans to talk to.

Just to let you know, last year was Matt Maynard's team. This year it's Jamie's time to be the floor general for the team. And as for Lexington and Louisville teams shutting him down, I highly doubt that. And if Belfry continues to play well, then we might just see how he will fair against them at RUPP!!!
