DANG, I didn't realize how many free throws Belfry shot either, a lil lopsided in that category. Paintsville just didn't shoot the ball worth a damn tonight, didn't make the plays when they needed em most. Hats off to Belfry, they were the better team TONIGHT, which is all that matters because they advanced and Paintsville didn't. After finally gettin to see Jamie Case play tonight, he is HANDS DOWN the 15th Region Player of the Year, NO WAY there is a better Senior, possibly an even better player period in this region. I'm with IRISH4, I think he will lead Belfry to Rupp. I still gotta cheer for Magoffin though, if they get beat then I'm all for the Pirates, they earned my respect tonight. As for my Tigers, they better get ALOT tougher and stronger BOTH mentally and physically in the off season, or it will be another heartbreak season next year.

First and foremost hats off to a very good Paintsville club that never quit and took it straight at Belfry. Numerous times Belfry would jump to a 5-7 point lead just to see Paintsville come back. This team could be scary good next year!
Belfry proved tonight that this is not the Shelby Valley Invitational this year as quite a few fans seem to believe. Belfry played a solid all-around game minus some bonehead turnovers. Case scored 26 points and every single one was either within 5 feet of the goal or at the free throw line. Also, Landon Sloan didn't so much have an off night as he got shut down and taken out of his game by Case's defense.
Dustin May, IMO, was the game MVP tonight. Huge night on the boards, scored 20+ points, blocked shots and strips inside, and sank numerous clutch free throws. His strength was too much for anyone on Paintsville. Aaron Warren also played a solid game and came up with some monster rebounds in the final minutes.
When Case fouled out with 3 minutes to go I honestly thought Paintsville was going to win the game, but the supporting cast really stepped up and won the game for Belfry.
VanHoose for Paintsville played a very solid game, as did Bundy.
If SV takes care of business I think we will see a war, I feel belfry will cause quite a few matchup problems for the Wildcats with their size and strength.

Congrats Belfry, best thing since OVERRATED Paintsville lost to magoffin in the district final.
03-06-2007, 01:00 AM
I was wrong on this Prediction. Congrats to Belfry, surprised me. Thought Pville would out quick the pirates, but looks like the Pirates out muscled the Tigers! Paintsville needs to do something. If other players don't step up then they will have a rough season ahead of them next year IMO!
03-06-2007, 01:02 AM
Congrats to the big red head. Case put on a show offensively but even more impressive was his defense. I think he makes a strong bid for POY honors in the 15th.
03-06-2007, 01:02 AM
Congrats Belfry....
I hope to see BMR back at Paintsville next year give it one more run.......

Maybe if Paintsville could get out of a 1st round game with a win they may be alright, I don't know.
03-06-2007, 01:14 AM
Yeah I think tonight performance will give Case the POY...
03-06-2007, 01:19 AM
Landon WHO!!!!
Oh yea he's the guy who Jamie Case POY in 15th shut down tonite,he didn't have a bad night,he was stopped. As far as the difference in free throws ,that was due to Belfry driving the ball to the rim and not settling for jump shots, also the Tigers had to foul late.I'm proud of the Pirate fro showing they can play without Jamie when he fouled out.Now continue the season Friday against Valley and show everyone what you are made of.Warren had a big second half on the boards, and Steele stepped up when Case was out,and Dustin played great, keep it up.See you at Rupp.

Belfry may have drove the ball to the rim, Paintsville did too, but there were alot of pansy touch calls made against Paintsville. Fouls were PHS 11 - BHS 3 in the first half. You're right though, Landon was pretty much shut down by Case, BUT, Landon still didn't hit the shots he usually does when he was uncontested. Like I said before, Belfry just wanted it more. Paintsville had their chances to win this game but didn't make the plays down the stretch, Belfry did, hats off to the Pirates. Now go lay it to Valley.
03-06-2007, 01:26 AM
I agree that with tonights performance Case should have erased any doubts about who deserves POY, it was his defense that set the tone from the start and allowed the game to come to him on the offense side. Good Luck Pirates the rest of the way!!

First of all you are looking ahead in a lot of things you said. Jamie is not YET the POY. Yes he did shut down Slone and no one can deny that. And the part about Belfry playing without Case, when did the guy foul out? Like less than 2 minutes to go, so that proves nothing to me. And even though SV is the favorite they have not won the game YET. Sounds like the Pirates are making some noise and I think they will give SV IF they win a run for their money.
03-06-2007, 01:47 AM
Congrats to Belfry. Good Luck in the games to come!
03-06-2007, 01:51 AM
Case is def POY.. Case closed lol....landon slone got shut down all night. when Case fouled out Slone only had 4 points. Great Job Pirates! May stepped up with 21 and Case finished with 24.. Good luck pirates! Go get the 15th region crown!
03-06-2007, 01:53 AM
Hats off to Belfry tonight, best of luck the rest of the way. Didn't really suprise me when I heard the final score, Paintsville is one of the most inconsistent teams I've ever heard of. They play 2 good games, then 3 bad ones. They need to get their act together next season, because if this group does not make it to Rupp at least one time they will be the most over hyped group to ever walk the halls of Paintsville. They may very well be that way right now, but if they can make one trip they will salvage some of the high expectations set upon them.
03-06-2007, 01:53 AM
First anyone who says Case isn't the player of the year has lost it, and he did shut Slone down, Slone didn't have open looks to miss tonight Case smothered him, and I seen Case draw as high as a triple team.
And 1:54 left was when Jamie fouled out and it was a five point game. Most of Belfry free throws came in the second half when they attacked the goal. Belfry just attempted 7 in the first half. I think the free throw difference was a sign of who played harder. Belfry just shot 3 three pointers, Paintsville shot 24 so who do you think took it to the hole.
Paintsville has a nice team but Belfry played great.
Here is a suprise Belfry got out rebounded 33 to 32, Paintsville had 11 offensive rebounds.
Congrats Belfry and way to fight Paintsville.

First, I want to congratulate Belfry on the win!!! They did what they had to do and they got it done!
Second, as to my thoughts on the game: I don't think that Belfry played any better than I thought that they would. Paintsville played worse than I thought that they would (although I should be getting used to it by now, lol)
The Tigers came out like deer in headlights and threw the ball away their first few possessions, which helped Belfry jump out to an early lead. Then they settled down and made some runs at Belfry. The Tigers finally took control and the lead at the half. They came out and for the first part of the third quarter had control of the game and got up by 5 on Belfry. They had a chance to increase that lead twice to 7 or 8, but couldn't convert. Then Belfry calls a TO and makes some adjustments and Paintsville starts getting away from what was working and let Belfry whittle the lead back down and regain control for the Pirates. Paintsville then starts playing reckless and Belfry keeps playing consistent and Belfry gets back up on Paintsville. Paintsville cut into the lead some but could never regain control, even though they were within 4 points late in the 4th quarter. That pretty much sums up my observations.
The Tigers had their chances and didn't convert. Belfry was rattled some when Paintsville would put pressure on the ball, but Belfry just played more consistent tonight than Paintsville.
I said before that this was a game that Paintsville could win by 10 or lose by 10 and at times during this game it looked like either was a possibility. But the poor shooting night of Slone killed Paintsville. However, he has had a good season and has nothing to be ashamed about, there are just nights like tonight where nothing falls! It happens to all good players at some point. Maybe the Belfry D didn't help, but Slone definately had an off night despite any defensive pressure.
Third, I was very impressed with Case, but wouldn't quiet give him POY status yet. He is one of the best I've seen this year in the 15th Region though.
Fourth, I think that JD deserves a big  double thumbs up for stepping up and playing one of his best games of the year.
Fifth, I still don't believe that Belfry has a chance against Shelby Valley, BUT I SURE WILL BE CHEERING THEM ON and I wish them the best of luck!

Okay, Okay... now.. It time.. for ME, to chime in...............
I will address all subjects.. lol
Belfry came out tonight, and did what they needed to do. No, Landon Slone did not have an off night, Landon Slone simply was taken out of the equation tonight.. Jamie Case controlled Slone all night.. THATS IT.. PERIOD.. Done with that subject.
As for the foul situation, its like this.. Paintsville just fouled more.. Really simple as that.
Belfry is going to have to hit free thows if they expect to get past the next round.
Also, they are going to have to play smarter... too many stupid things causing turnovers..
and as for my friend disco stu, "mr. saturday night fever", my ride home was hilarious, thinking about that 94-67 prediciton.. haha lol
has anyone seen the commercial on espn, where the people suffer from talking sports outta thier asses?... lol I think I have a new vote for who appears on the next one hahahh:
lick my basketballs! its the playoffs!

Congrats to the Pirates!irateSho
I didn't pick them to win ---
but I did post once that for some reason Belfry keeps coming into my mind ?
Guess I know why now !
Now, I wonder how many times I am going to have to rewrite my brackets?
And to add another note in the ongoing battle of POY - Case has my vote!

on t-shirts all across this basketball lovin' state!
Go to bed Mr. Football , BTW - do I know you?

Do you think that they put this little symirateSho bol on here just for the Pirates of Belfry??
You guys need to put it to use against the Wildcats of SV next round so that their blue nation faithful can look like this :yikes: when you hopefully beat them!
Just kidding around guys!

Be glad I am still laughin' over Mr.Football's comment.
Just jerkin' you around....Belfry done good!
But I hope Valley wins the next one -- but I am not making a predicition
I am afraid I will have to redo the brackets again -- I am leaving them blank
until the semi-finals is over.

Also would like to thank Disco Stu for his contribution to the Belfry win...after talking with the Belfry players after the game it seems that Stu's comments about Belfry being inferior to Paintsville found their way to the Belfry lockerroom wall and into the player's hands during school today....THANKS STU FROM ALL OF BELFRY HIGH SCHOOL!!

I think it will be a good game, Valley has some serious speed but Belfry does cause some match up problems.
By the way Paintsville you guys even though you lost were very classy.
