Belfry really need to rethink thier whole offense..
Its good to run the ball down people throats when you can..
But when teams shut you down, you have got to have other go-to options
Coach Haywood seems to only wanna run up the middle a couple times, then run outside, then throw it once... and when that doesn't work, Belfry seems to go in panic mode
In 03' & 04' they could rely on pure athletic ability to get things done...
When things change, and you lose those players that are extremely talented, you still have to find a way to win....
I question Belfry's heart?.. I mean some of these guys just don't seem to want it..
If they don't want it, they need to get some of those guys off the sidelines in there who want it..
Belfry needs to straighten some things out, if they want to return to dominance..

And how many time didn't it work this year? I think Belfry's offense was pretty good this year. At least that is all we heard before the game.
If you question their heart you were not watching the same game the rest of us were.

The only thing I question is mrfootball03s knowledge of the game. Hahahahaha

Belfry's offense was fine this year except for the fumbles. But I do agree to a point with mrfootball03. Belfry does need to have contengency plans that they practice all year but never use unless they need them so they don't give them away. Haywoods offense looked good all year. But it's not that hard to look good against Shelby Valley or Magoffin Co. They did play some good teams this year. NCC, Ashland, Sheldon Clark, Middlesboro. But none of these teams were even close to Russell's level on the defensive side of the ball. Ashland did beat Russell. But Ashland's defense wasn't as good as Russell's. Once we got to Russell and they stopped the runs up the middle and the option, Belfry had nothing. Having a few plays here or there that were practiced all year but never really used could've really made a difference there. When Belfry passed the ball in that game they did decently good. But when Belfry ran, Russell was all over them every time. They have really studied film of everything Belfry does and they showed that. And there was nothing Belfry could do about it. As far as heart is concerend, I thought Belfry showed pretty good heart. You could see that they kind of quit there at the end of the 4th quarter. But they had to have heart to keep running those same plays on offense when they were being stuffed every time. I don't believe heart was an issue. They were only doing what they were told.

Well, It doesn't matter how good it was all year, if it failed against Russell..
Everyone can say, "oh well, Belfry did good, they had a good year"..
and they did have a good year, but they still didn't do what they needed to do
You can't say there wasn't anything wrong with the offense, because if that
was the case, Belfry wouldn't have been shutout at home...
As for the part about heart.. I was meaning some players didn't seem to have heart.. I watched several players who just gave up... put thier head down...
and thats just not Belfry Football..

Good Job for both teams on making it this far thats the first thing I want to say...Congrats to Russell for making it to state two years in a row...Like to see you guys repeat rooting for you guys do your best play perfect and win it again goodluck russell

Belfry's offense was probably not as conservative as Russell's. The Pirates even ran 15-20 plays from the spread.
Belfry or Russell will not win or go to the state championship every year. They did what they could do and then ran into a better team with a very good defense.

Hm no not every year, but for the next few year's I think it will come down between these two teams for who goes to state:thumpsup:

Why can't you just admit that Russell had the better team this year?
It comes down to the Jimmy's & Joe's more than it does X's & O's. And believe me, both of those coaches know the X's & O's.

Please notice I said will NOT win or go to the state champioship every year.
Although they have both been consistantly among the best in their class it is not going to happen every year.

Im sure coach Haywood did what he felt was appropriate for the game... A man such as himself that has coached that many year's knows what he's doing...
I noticed this myself, I saw a few players still going all out late in the 4th Q, and then again I saw a few hanging their heads... Up until that game I haven't saw a Belfry team actually look as if they thought they were going to lose
11-28-2006, 11:53 PM
I did hear the RUMOR that Haywood was retiring this year.... any body down in Belfry heard this.. I think this had to do with somethings on the team this year.. I dont know for sure but heard a rumor.......

I heard the same about Mcglone, but I think its just the Teaching that he is retiring from and not the coaching. Is thier any truth to that?

It is my understanding that Ivan does not want to teach any more. I believe if they will let him he will quit teaching and continue coaching.
