Way to go JC, glad to see you give Ashland a whippin'.

Sounds like the Ashland Def needs to step up agisnt the running game if they plan on going anywere in the Playoffs
#34
I never felt like that Ashland was in the game any time throughout.
JC Dominated

Grimm had 207 yards in the first half 288 total
Ashland had 6 first downs
160 some total yards
they didnt get much done
Conley played great on D for the Eagles

JC played an amazing game and deserved the W. Ashland just couldn't stop the big play by JC. Both teams have trouble sustaining a long drive. Ashland mainly getting totally stopped, and JC getting a big play before they had to sustain one. The Ashland defense ran a risky gameplan and lost. They were either going to make the tackle at the line of scrimmage or give up 50 yards. Both teams had a few turnovers they need to control if there is a rematch. The officiating was very spotty for the 1st half, giving beneficial calls to each team, especially on spots. There was even once that an official singled first down for JC after a 4th down run before the Ashland crowd and sideline and erupted and they decided to measure. After the measurement, it was a turnover and first down Ashland.

The atmosphere was great and facilities were nice, but I didn't like the fact that there was a cloud of smoke above and on the field the entire game from the grill, but I'll admit, it looked like some great food.

The only real complaint about the game came from the PA and sound system. While Ashland was in the offensive huddle, music would play until they came up to the line of scrimmage, at which time the announcer would then start talking. Constant artificial noise being pumped in while Ashland was on offense. While JC was on offense, less than half of that type of artificial noise was used, and never was used while JC was in their huddle. The announcer would also be making calls and talking while the ball was being snapped, and in play while Ashland was on offense, but never while JC was.

Anyways, enough complaining. I hope Ashland and JC match up again in the playoffs. JC could and probably would come out with the W, but I believe it could be a much closer game now that Ashland has seen what they're up against, especially if they could limit the big plays.

I was happy to see much of the sportsmanship that I could see from the stands by both teams. May be the first game I've seen all season without a personal foul being called. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't recall one.

I think it would be the 2nd round if both teams make it.

Im not taking anything away from Ashland, they are a quality team, but if JC hadn't turned the ball over 3 or 4 times and prevented stupid penalties (e.g. block in the back) the score couldv'e been worse but overall a good game from both sides of the ball for JC. Ashland just couldn't get it clicking on offense.

From what I saw last week against LC, I thought Ashland didnt have much of a offense. Matt Thomas shys away from contact and last night was pretty much nonexistent against the Eagles defense with just 18 yds on 11 carries. The passing game at times was somewhat successful but the O-line couldnt give Mahan time to find his recievers. McDavid was finished after than huge hit by Tommy Taylor and dropped alot of passes. You come out and hit the Tomcats and they dont want anymore.

Ashland is a good football team their is no doubt about it. I was really impressed that JC ran the ball so well considering Ashland had all 11 guys 5 yards off the line. The Grim kid put on a show and man when he gets past the line backers you can put it on the board. One tough kid.

I agree with you except for the part about Ashland's O-line. Mahan had way to much time. I think it was by design because Johnson and Tackett for the most part dropped back into that 6-12 yard range. Our defensive backs played extremley well last night. Some one said that Matney said in the pre-game show, one of his biggest concerns was Mahan running out of the pocket. It didn't look like JC was to scared of his arm, only sending four people to rush the QB. With Johnson and Tackett playing watch dogs on pass plays, quick slant across the middle could get someone KILLED.

good job. JC

I think mahan should have scrambled more because he picked up good yardage when he did but he probably didn't try because the mudd.

The field actually wasnt that bad. It could have been much much worse. JC had the field tarped all week to prevent it from getting to wet.

yeah it wasn't terrible but I guess he didn't feel comfortable runinng on the mudd.

It didn't seem like any of the Tomcats felt comfortable running in the MUDD!!! Heck the didn't look comfortable running period. You figure when a mad man like Tacket is running after ya, you had better get on your horse and get outta of the way.

On a serious note I really didn't think Thomas would get up after Tacket hit him early in the 1st half. Thats one tough cat. Thomas is a player and when JCHS face's him again he will be ready that I am sure of.

Great job by the Eagles!! There were no "wide right" turns in this game. Keep soaring, Eagles!!!
