AceMay Wrote:I wouldnt call Matewan an UNCLASSY act. If your a player and your coach tells ya to play, are you just going to say "no thanks coach, I think I want to set on the side lines"
NO...Thats why you are out there, to play ball. Now, if the coach leaves him in, shame on him but you can't point the fingers at McCoy. I have watched one of their games, McCoy was set down the whole second half and still had six touchdowns, plus he had two that were called back on him.
I don't think anyone was pointing fingers at McCoy. When this type of unsportsmanlike activity occurs the fingers have to be pointed directly at the coaches. It's all on Yogi Kinder.

Yogi Kinder is a P O S. I wanted to punch him in the mouth when I played in the Hatfield/McCoy game. He was arrogant, cocky and walked around like his WV team was world beaters, they werent. Dispite over 200 yards in penalties and 2 of our players getting "tossed" from the game we still beat them. And every time I have been over there to watch the H/M game you see him, struttin around like he is god.

Yep... that's yogi!!!

I was there and it was close the whole way. McCoy didn't do anything in that game. Thats the only playoff calliber team they've played yet.
GOOD ONE

wELL, if YOU ARE PLAYING AGAINST A team like that, that is ridiculous and cheap! I have seen where players could have rushed for 1000 yards in a game and probably thrown for 1000, Couch in High School would have 500 at the half all of the time..But Classy programs don't let this happen..So what a MAJOR Accomplishment over a perennial powerhouse..I say BS!

Please don't think that running up the score or what yogi does on or off the field is being upheld by me on this post because I agree with most of what has been said. I'm also a graduate of Burch and feel really bad for them. However, if the articale that I read in The Williamson Daily News is correct, then even though the Epling kid has been cleared to play, Matwean still has to forfiet their first three games. That means they will have to go undefeated the rest of the year to make the playoffs and because the playoff raitings in WV are computer generated the fact they only play one more ranked team this year dosen't gain them much in the rankings however if I've been told correctly putting up big numbers and having a stingy defence will. If other ranked teams higher than Matewan win out the fact that they put up such outrageous stats may be the factor that gets them in. Still don't like the fact that they have to do that but chalk this one up to the WVSSAC. Sorry about the long post.

phs1986 Wrote:and OH... go tell Yogi Kinder he doesn't have any class... LMAO.... be sure and post what he tells ya!!!Hey Yogi Kinder, You have no class!
It's ridiculous to have your star running back in the game with such a lopsided score. People who see this record and KNOW the circumstances it was achieved will see it for what it is...meaningless.
Does the national record mean as much when acheived against a team that has had discussion about folding the team??? Don't think so.
Paul McCoy...great performance!! Congrats!!

Big John, you've been told wrong.
The "computer ratings" phrase is a hold-over - it's nothing like Massey, no SOS or margin involved. It's simply x points for a win (6 for beating an "A" team, 9 for AA & 12 for "AAA") plus a rider point for every win by a team you beat, then divide that by the number of games you play. WInning by 1 or 100 makes no impact on your playoff chances (unless they use some sort of tiebreaker based on margin - don't know about that).
Va used this same system in the 70's & 80's.

JWBN4EA Wrote:Yeah i know and everyone downed SV for running the score up on Phelps even though SV played their freshman just about the whole game....its pretty pathetic that someone would run the score up on a team that bad just so one of their own players can build his stats and possibly break a record or two so now i guess we all can say that Matewan dont have has much class as everyone thought
OK, so I'm about to break forum rules...
What crackhead ever thought that Matewan has class? Yogi Kinder (the head coach) has molestation charges brought up against him every 3 or 4 years for sleeping with girls he teaches. He was run out of Phelps for that very thing about 20 or so years ago. Matewan has always had a reputation for playing dirty. Yes, they are tough, but they try to hurt people, not just hit hard. I didn't play for Belfry, I played for Williamson, and in the Matewan game, I had multiple attempts to gouge my eyes, was cheap shotted "below the belt" at least twice, and got kicked in the helmet. They lead the state of WV in # of late hit penalties.
They're a strong team, yes, but they've always played dirty. 'Course, when you're as powerful *cough steroids cough* as their teams always turn out, you can afford some penalty yards and still win.
They win football games, I admit it. But Yogi is lower than bathtub scum.
So I flamed Yogi. It wasn't exactly difficult, and I still didn't do a good job of it.

BTW, I think Burch has 16 players on their football team this season.

you let the tigers (mccoy) come over and play some GOOD ky teams (belfry, prestonsburg, sheldon clark, ashland, lawerence co. and so on) and i GUARANTEE they would hold him under 50 yards. but hey its a great accomplishment it was in the USA Today. congrats to mccoy. but lets take a reality check the yards came against shelby valley, willamson, and burch. hold on... i had to laugh. lol

CLARK COULD RUN HIS STATS BACKWARD AGAINST THE SAME TEAMS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Absolutely rediculous on the Coaches part............. RB's at Russell who perform like that are pulled in the first quarter. Josh Gross touched the ball 6 times at Lewis Co. 2 years ago and had 5 or 6 td's...He sat the 2,3,4th quarter...... Kasey could do the same ...especially in our district. Yes Russell is in a weak district... not by our choice,, but we deal with it............ Clark could eat this kid alive.... HECK !!!!!!!as big as this kid is --I HAVE POOPED BIGGER THINGS THAN THIS, AND PROBABLY HAS COME OUT TWICE AS FAST ..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

haha. i agree.
i mean the past years when belfry had jones and howard they could have easily down the same against east ridge, pike central, and any other weak team. but at belfry there are all about class. thats why is such a privilege for those boys to wear the red and white and hold that helmet up in the 4th quarter.

WOW... Cheap coaching move, but impressive numbers against an obviously weak team. I agree with strike3, let them come to Kentucky and play against some of our good one's and see how well they do.

Think that was unclassy read some o his comments in the news express-
Matewan coach Yogi Kinder was told on the sidelines that McCoy was approaching the national record. The coach, who had planned to play McCoy only three quarters, changed his mind and kept his player in the game.
He defended his decision Saturday.
âWhy should there be any guilty feelings?â Kinder said. âOur schoolâs smaller than they are. Why should I punish my kids for having a pretty good team? We were going to score 60 points if Paul doesnât even get on the bus.â
Kinder, who also teaches driverâs education at Burch, said heâll have no problem going back to work.
âI show up every Monday after we beat them,â he said.

Tottally disagree!
This is a team sport sacrifice it for the team. I always asked my self would I drather have played d-1 football at a powerhouse school or have the chance to play for the ring?
Give me the rign anyday. Gotta look out for my brothers on the team.

Yeah, what an accomplishment that was? Not impressed in the least....I mean c'mon they played Burch...This is seriously stupid for a coach to let this happen...He may hold this record or whatever, but in no way does this determine how good this kid is...By the way he is no way a D-1 player...Maybe he could walk on at Pikeville, but i doubt it...
