Belfry 24 Pikeville 20
First, I am a huge Pikeville fan and really thought that Pikeville outplayed Belfry tonight. The overall strength and conditioning of this team late in the game is what gave them a chance, and will give them a chance at a Class A state title. This credit goes to the coaching staff..bar none. They have worked these guys like crazy since they got here. Belfry won this game because..well, they are Belfry. They always stay composed, don't make many mistakes and just play with tons of discipline. The game winning drive from the Pirates was flawless. They always just find a way to get the win. This was a very emotional game to say the least. I don't think we should point so many fingers at individual coach's and players. It is no secret that the Honaker twins have trouble controlling themselves in big games like this one. BUT before you bash them remember this....they are really great boys off the field who are very polite and well liked by anyone who has ever coached or taught them. They have overcome having a "deadbeat dad" who has nothing to do with them. Their mom does it all and does a great job. Sure, they still have some growing up to do but trust me, they have come a million miles since Jr. High. I don't think that kicking them off of a football team would help their situation at all. Even Phillip Haywood would agree to that. These kids are getting the lessons of life that sports provides and they are actually handling it very well under their circumstances. They got another lesson from Belfry on Friday. Belfry won this game fair and square. It was a great game...let's leave it at that!!

Thats a great post and I somewhat agree with you that putting one of the Honakers off the team wouldn't be good for him at all.

But, he could watch all the football he wanted from the sidelines, in uniform.
Just a quick question, all this talk about Coach H not taking anything like what #2 did (granted I wasn't at the game and don't know), but Haywood quickly accepted the talented Paul Howard a couple of years ago after he WALKED off the Pikeville team DURING a game. Not trying to start anything, but to say that Haywood wouldn't take a player that shows bad sportmanship is just over turned by this IMO.

This sounds like a GREAT game though. And after the way that this series has gone the last couple of seasons, with a strong favoring towards Belfry, looks to me as if the Panthers have straightened up and made this into a VERY good series once again.

Congrats to BOTH teams for what seems to be one heck of a game to watch (what a fan loves the most Smile) I would expect A LOT from PHS and BHS when the playoffs come around.

I didnt see Haywood pulling HIS players out who got the late hits and the facemask penalties against them, so quit trying to throw Tim under the bus and saying that belfry wasnt doing anything wrong cause thats BULL! Tim and Ted both are great kids off the field and I havent heard of them getting in any type of trouble. Im sure when YOU were 17 years old YOU did some things that youd like to do over again I know I do. I believe he will learn form this and move on and be an even better player because of it.

You're choice my friend...but as we all know, the truth hurts, so I'm sorry I've hurt you!

Please tell me how he is going to "learn" from this experience when I seen NO ACTIONS being taken by the coaching staff to "teach" him any differently.

And, why should Haywood pull a kid out for 1 facemask, when that player had not had the outlandish behavior that Honaker had the entire game?? Comparing the 2 is like apples and oranges. If Honaker had just had one or two plays that he had a bad attitude then I wouldn't have said anything, all kids lose their cool from time to time, but not for the entire game..it was just ridiculous.
Congrats Pirates!!!!
Pirate Pal Wrote:First off, I would like to congratulate our boys for an outstanding showing of class, confidence, determination, composure, and sportsmanship. This is a direct reflection of Coach Haywood and his staff. One of the things that make me so proud to be a Belfry fan, is that no matter what stadium the team plays at, the first thing said by the opposing players, fans, coaching staff, is what a classy group of men Belfry has on their team.

Secondly, this was a great game to watch from a fans perspective. Both teams wanted the win badly! However, they both need to improve as the season progresses and quit making elementary mistakes!!

Now...and I know this isn't going to be well taken by some, but I have to say that I lost so much respect for the Pikeville football program last night that it isn't even funny. One thing that I could attest for over the years is that Pikeville, like Belfry, was a classy, well respected program...BUT all of that changed after watching the Pikeville coaching staff allow a player (#2) to act in the most unsportsmanlike manner I have witnessed in any game for the past 3 to 4 years. I witnessed it directly in front of me. Then...to beat it all... how would you expect a true coach to teach this same player sportsmanship...if you are the coach from Pikeville, you send him to the sidelines at the end of the game instead of making him be the first in line to shake the opponents hands..ridiculous!!
Not only that, but when an assistant coach is turning around with the players on the sideline and trying to taunt the visiting fan section, that was comical in my book. It was disappointing to me to say the least....acutally it was PATHETIC!!

You can't control the behavior of the fans, but a coach should be able to control his players and assistants.

Thanks Coach Haywood for making classy men out of our boys!!

AMEN !!!

There is nothing wrong with that post. I agree with it completely. If a kid acted like the way he appearantly did last night, he needs to be kicked off the team. If I was the parent of that kid, I would have dragged him off the field myself and busted his ass for embarrassing himself, the school and the community. If it were a Belfry player that acted like that I would expect the same thing. Kids need to be taught to respect others and that there are consequences for their actions, but when you have a coaching staff that acts just as bad as he did, they all need to be held accountable.

All the whining is comical. Pikeville needs lessons in class from the Belfry people about as much as Donald Trump needs me to loan him a few bucks.:lmao:

What the Howard kid did was above and beyond wrong, but he didn't play for Belfry that year and while he was at Belfry he never once showed unsportsman-like behavior.

Also, what the Howard kid did at Pikeville was more embarassing to himself, imo, and if it hurt anyone it hurt him. Not the case with the kid from Pikeville's team this year. Everytime I see him play, whether in basketball or football, and his actions could cause harm to others. It's like comparing apples and oranges to me.

The truth hurts, huh? Maybe you should be the first in line to learn the meaning of "class". Grow up!

The Pikeville/Belfry game has always been one of my favorite games of the season. This game was much better than the last few, and could have went either way..

I agree with Pirate Pal, last night I lost a lot of respect for Pikeville program. It is a shame that the actions of a few makes everyone else look bad.
(and last night, it was usually the same player who did this)

Yea, really
Whatever, I'm through with all the whining. I'm losing respect for Belfry. I'll just leave it at that.
Congrats to Belfry!!

As exciting as this game was to watch, both teams played terrible. Almost as if they were trying to give the win to each other!!! Both teams had better make huge strides to correct these penalties and turnovers before playoff time or they may not go far at all. Reminds me of the old playground fights in grade school. One kids scared and the other one was glad of it.

Uhm...ask the refs...i was just saying thats what the players were saying...thats why i didnt say "there were racial slurrs"...just that the players were saying it was going on

In any case, if that were true, that is wrong and sad, but maybe this kid needs to take a lesson from his brother, who acted 100% better than he did last night. They are twins are they not?

Yes, they are...and before this season I would have expected Ted to act this way as opposed to Tim, but he has done a great job...I think Ted could have a great impact on calming his brother down if he stepped up and tried, but I dont think I saw them even talk on the field at all last night.

I don't know either kid off of the field/court so I couldn't tell them apart or probably wouldn't recognize them at all..I just know what I watch during the game so what you say is probably true. I did notice that if Ted was tackled, Tim would rush to the pile to get him out of it pretty fast.

"IF" they are 2 and 5 i think it was...please notice I said IF....I saw them hug on the field...

Smile I just think its just ridiculas and incredibly funny that a few people think their opinion is the one and only possible CORRECT post typed on here and everybody else was just at a different game. Dont you? I mean really!! There were many many people at this game and there were many different views of the game depending on where a person was sitting or standing, which would in fact depend on what one would be able to see or hear at EVERY given second of the game. Not even the refs see OR hear it ALL.
Congratulations Pirates....

Noboby was talking about a late hit here and there. The problem was the behavier ALL NIGHT LONG by one....and NO Haywood wouldnt put up with it:thumpsup:

and yes I was 17 once too Confusedhh: and yes I acted like a kid. But this is a team, school affilated sport and they usually are pretty strict about things like that on the field.
