Kentucky football will always live in the shadow of basketball in this state, and fans have had modest expectations every year it seems like. But if UK can get 6 or more wins this season, make a bowl, fans will accept that. Talking to some friends who follow UK, they were hoping for more a more dominance performance, especially against a team like Toledo. A win is a win but the way they looked today was far from dominate. 

If I was a UK fan, a close game like today would no doubt cause me to worry. Now it could just be early season rust or underestimating Toledo. Then again it could be another Stoops offensive and defensive team. I don't think it was the kind of opening game fans were hoping for heading to a much tougher SEC schedule. But if the CATS can get things going and pick up a few wins in the conference, they will be back in the hunt for a nice bowl and Stoops will survive another year.

I'm concerned about this season for the Cat's.  But this is a good win here. Hearing Toledo was a preseason favorite to win their conference.  With a outside shot at making the playoffs. Which Idk about that after today. I honestly believe this was a good win for the Cat's.  Alot of MAC teams are tough and can pull upsets early in the season.

Now next week vs Ole Miss, I'm worried about this one Lol

It's going to be tough to win a SEC game.  I was thinking maybe Vandy and Auburn might be our best chances.  But Auburn looked pretty dang good last night.  So maybe scratch them off the list of our possible conference games Lol

I just wish that we could field a football team that matched the fans' passion...just ONE TIME.
I'll be happily surprised if we win one SEC game.

Subpar quarterback play has killed the last two seasons. And Calzada didn’t give any indication yesterday that he is going to be an upgrade. Running game with the two new backs was really good, and the defense didn’t give up any points through the first three quarters. So there’s that. But if the quarterback play isn’t any better…….Cutter Boley anyone?

A win is a win. I think a loss here would have really let the air out of the balloon for even the most optimistic UK fans.

This one down, and we should take care of two more in Eastern Michigan and Tennessee Tech. Will be disappointed if we don't beat Vanderbilt.

Past those four, really hoping for two more wins and bowl eligibility, no matter how hard those will be to come by.

Not going into the Ole Miss game with the highest expectations given last season's upset. Playing close and showing progress would be a win in and of itself to me, especially if the offense shows signs of life.

Don't think South Carolina is terrible, but also don't think they're the 10th best team in the country. If we're able to break the streak against them, we have more to play for in every game in the meat of our schedule (at Georgia, Texas, Tennessee, at Auburn, Florida) and some momentum to weather the three game stretch that begins with Georgia. Could see things getting really ugly if we're going into our last six games with two wins.

At the moment, thinking that remaining games from most to least winnable would go: at Louisville, Florida, at Auburn, at South Carolina, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas, at Georgia.

Just a tough schedule getting two top 5 teams in games that don't seem winnable and not having a Mississippi State, Missouri, or Arkansas to pair with Vanderbilt on the back end.


If I had to pick, don't know if I'd rather see a 5 win season with only a couple of bad losses, one big upset, and another close game against a really good team (showing we're making slow but steady progress back from last season) or a 6 win season against the worst teams (ex. Vanderbilt, a banged up Florida or Auburn and a mild upset over Louisville), three bad losses, not playing close to any of the good teams, and a loss against a smaller conference school in a low-tier bowl game.

Thank You CJ, I was hoping to hear your take on the Cat's season.  I'm still not optimistic about it, but I'm feeling a little better now

Kentucky has a near zero shot of winning an SEC game right now. Calzada doesn’t understand simple protections and has been in college since Joe burrow. The read option that was a safety, that’s elementary stuff. The interception, I knew from bell county that they were sending pressure from that side yet he threw right at the defender. The line is going to get whipped this week. The receivers may have 2 catches this week and our RB room is filled with felons. This week Lane may get triple digits.
