MS football season is here, 4 incidences today of teams canceling on another team for scrimmages tomorrow.  Growing trend the last few years of teams canceling on other teams (or not even showing up with no notification). 

So why does your team cancel events on other teams?

Happens a lot in NEKY the last few years. Numbers always been the reason. But magically have enough the weeks prior and after a cancellation in many cases.

This is one of the worst issues in middle school sports. Teams are quick to schedule games until they realize they aren't good enough. Many times, teams think too highly of themselves until their eyes are opened. It hurts teams when they lose games over this stuff.

It also causes the good teams to have to schedule 13 or 14 games just to get 10.

Then you get “lucky” and no one does and end up playing 15 regular season games and then start the playoffs….

Teams cancel because there’s no reason to not. There’s no penalty.

A rule is never a rule without a punishment. We can call it an unwritten rule between people, but who cares.

I challenge the KYMSFA to make a solution by imposing fines like they would in high school. But I already know the response. They don’t have to join the KYMSFA. There’s a lot of reasons to join and I wouldn’t either and it’s not the fear of penalties for cancellation..

Until the day it’s a fully governed body, it’s going to be cancellations for general buthurt. Above poster mentioned Meece and Northern. It’s like that in so many realms it’s crazy across its state. Rivals cancel often.

I did make the trip down to Somerset with a dear friend last year in the hottest damned early games I’ve watched. Northern probably wishes they cancelled those games. Especially the 6th grade game. Shew.

There are rules in place, the problem is teams dont sign contracts for the their games.

Nope. Cancelled all 3 games. The past was under a different coaching staff, so not really relevant anymore.

Nobody wants to play Meece at any of the 3 grades. Northern made a business decision today with the cancelation.

Who is enforcing the contracts? KYMSFA? 

If you schedule a team that generally pays to play in the association, and then they decide they’re not going to be part of the organization that season for whatever reason and they cancel on you, who is going to enforce the contact? 

If the KYMSFA decided to make the contracts a necessity to play, would people continue in the association since it’s by choice and not mandate?

What if anything is being done knowing this issue arises? If I were a team and needed a minimum of x-amount of games and paid to play with a bunch of teams that forfeit or cancel, then that should go in a win column. Or if a team cancels now, do have a penalty enforced and if so, what is it? 

I’m not even being a devil’s advocate here. I’m just trying to get my brain around it.

Teams dont use the contracts, there in lies the issue.  Cant enforce what isnt there.
