SLAW !!!
#1
I have always been a big slaw fan.   I've seen them all--- SLAW  , SLAW 2, SLAW 3 ... even SLAW 8... lol     No, seriously, I love slaw.  My granny and pawpaw made the best ever. They would chop up their slaw very fine and pawpaw would sweeten it. Minimal other ingredients .  I like a sweet slaw, one that is not "mayonnaisey" or tangy. Their slaw was very simple, very sweet, just perfect. The best way I could describe it was think of the way KFC's slaw was back in the 70's and 80's.  KFC had the best slaw around, and it was almost identical to my granny and pawpaw's slaw.

KFC still has really good slaw, but they changed their recipe a decade or more ago.  The biggest difference now, compared to years ago, is that it is not chopped as fine as it used to be. It's still sweet, just not as fine. I've eaten a lot of slaws, with a lot of variety, but nothing eclipses the sweet simplicity of my grandparents' slaw. They always liked to order LJS fish on Sundays. Pawpaw would  deep fry his very own ,made from scratch big steak fries, and he and granny would make their slaw. Then pawpaw would load up in his Ford LTD and go cross town to pick up the fish from Long John's.

What about you folks? How do you like your slaw? Are you a sweet , not tangy person like me?  Do you like a more mayonnaise/dressing-laden slaw? Do you like your slaw chopped fine like I do or do you like a more dense slaw. Slaw is so good that I thought it deserved it's own thread.

What do like to eat with slaw. Pulled pork is the best with slaw(love you, cousin Dougie). I also love slaw with fish. Fried catfish, hushpuppies, and slaw... yum yum!!!  I can even eat a delicious tub of slaw by itself.

How about you, BGR food connoisseurs???

Jerry's always had the best slaw around. Miss Jerry's so bad. Going to stop in Paris and eat there soon. I like Captain D's slaw now and Long John's now and KFC is pretty good.

Oh,  my gosh!!!  Jerry's was our go-to place back in the day. Dad or mom  took us there all the time when we were kids.  My go to entree was the J-Boy( a double decker burger... way better than a Big Mac), crinkle cut fries, and slaw.  The Champ was also an excellent sandwich. Great place to go and eat!!!! I had no idea there were any Jerry's left. I may be making a trip to Paris this summer.

Jet, correct me if I'm misremembering but didn't they serve their slaw with those little small rectangular, sweet crackers. Those were so go good and the slaw was out of this world.

They still do. My wife and I make the pilgrimage to the only Jerry’s left in the whole, wide world in Paris, Ky at least every two months. Still as good as ever.

In that same vein did you know there is only one Druther’s left in the world also? And it’s in Campbellsville. Druther’s of course started out as Burger Queen. We’ve made that trip as well, but I was a little disappointed there, I loved their fried chicken in bygone days, but this was so-so at best.

I've got to go there. I miss Jerry's.  When we had the Jerry's out on the Falls Road by the Pepsi-Cola plant, it was also a Drive-In. You could go inside the restaurant, sit down and have a meal with the family or park at the drive-in and sit in your car and eat. MY sister and I both loved Jerry's spaghetti and meatballs, also.

We also had a Burger Queen, then Druther's out on the Falls Road. Not quite as far out CFR as where the Jerry's was located.  Also, had a Clancy's in that same location. Anyone remember Clancy's???

I wouldn't feed it to starving kids. I'd eat it all myself... SLAW...YUM!!! Jetpilot is right. As good as KFC's slaw was back in the day, and it was very good,  No one could top Jerry's !!!  I would take one of those little crackers they served with it, and dump some slaw on that cracker and watch that excess juice drip through the holes , then slam it down. I could make a meal of that slaw and those crackers.

I like good slaw. I love good slaw on a pulled pork sandwich. For me, pulled pork is barely worth eating without a serving of good Cole slaw. My favorite chain slaw for pulled pork is LJS. KFC used to be very good but the current version is average at best.

I've not eaten at Jerry's in years, but they had great slaw. I loved the J-Boy platters and the plates of spaghetti. I still prefer Club crackers over any other and my first recollection of eating them was with Jerry's coleslaw. A stop at Jerry's was the perfect way to follow up a victory on a baseball diamond.

Oh, I LOVE slaw!!! But it's one of the few dishes that I can't make worth a damn. All the places you guys mentioned, I've eaten slaw and loved them. KFC has dropped off with their slaw flavor, IMO.

Besides all the great ways you guys have mentioned, I love slaw with pinto beans, on a hot dog, with meatloaf and I could go on and on!!

The very best slaw I've ever tasted is at Granny's Lunch Box, right here in good ole Rosspoint, KY. It's owned and ran by a grandmother who can really cook!!!

Now this is the content I can get behind on here! I love my wife, my kids, my family and basketball, but damn it I really love food too and good food at that.

As for cole slaw? I am the same as you OSH, love mine sweet tasting and fine cut, there's been some places I've had it, and it might as well still be a whole head of cabbage and tangy. But I'll agree that Jerry's here in Prestonsburg was by far the best in its time, unfortunately closed down in 2012. Had some great memories in there w/ family & friends eating, I ate mostly breakfast every time, loved their pancakes but every once in a while, I'd get the J-boy or their spaghetti like mentioned, their spaghetti couldn't be beat, honestly didn't matter what I got to eat there, I always and I mean always got a slice of cheesecake which is my favorite dessert, and they had the best.

Now a days, the place with the best slaw is Billy Ray's, at least in my neck of the woods here in Prestonsburg. Betsy Layne Dairy bar has really good slaw if you get it on a hot dog w/ sauce, make sure you get a footlong bc they're so good. I hardly can eat any of the fast-food slaw's anymore, KFC has gone downhill, and recently ate LJS and it looked like it hadn't been cut the first time, and very tangy tasting.

I forgot about slaw on hot dogs. There is a place called The Custard Stand about an hour north of Charleston on I-79 that makes great slaw dogs. I usually eat there at least once when It travel to KY.

I'm blaming it on public transportation.  Smile Texting on a bus takes a lot of concentration. I've been taking the Metro to work for the past few months for the exercise. Two days a week wasn't bad, but I think I'm going to start driving two or three days a week now that I'm back in the office full-time. Most of my trip is on the train, which I am waiting on now.

My wife did not finish the red beans and rice in time for dinner, so Uber Eats is bringing me fish, scallops, and shrimp over pasta.

Well THAT sounds better than a slaw dog!!!

I love me a good slaw dog but yeah I'll take the fish, scallops and shrimp every time as well, seafood is by far my favorite.
