Even the announcers said in real time it was a 2. If you go back and watch it seems the ref wasn’t even looking at it
I think this was the right call. Ultimately, Pikeville couldn’t hang with the pace of Lawerence. As an avid basketball fan, I can say this was not Pikeville’s best game.

Tough call for sure to have go against you, but in end pikeville missed a FT to set up attempt instead of being up four, and then had lead under ten seconds again in OT

First off, congratulations to Lawrence Co. They played hard all game. Their kids competed and represented them well. I think their Coach does a great job. The shot the kid banked in at the end of regulation was a 2 but give him credit for making it. The last shot of the game their point guard made was a great move and shot. However, the officiating was lopsided all day. I disagree that it was bad both ways. Lawrence may have had a few go against them. But they didn’t get the whistle Pikeville got against them. It was sad and officiating shouldn’t determine who wins but it did this game. LC didn’t get a foul called against them until 3 minutes to go in the 2nd period. Pikeville had 2 seniors who are 2 of their best players with 2 fouls by then. 2 of those fouls called were horrible. They were calling jump balls when Pikeville kids rebounded and got bear hugged from behind. Pikeville’s center who LC had no matchup for fouled out and 3 of the fouls were terrible. Not questionable, just truly awful. This isn’t a knock on LC whatsoever. I am appreciative of the impossible job the officials agree to take on but do it fairly. This was bad and it goes far beyond the last play.

What baffles me is that some of these comments I've seen are saying it was a good call? I was there for this one, was there to watch this one and had as clear a view to see that both his feet were halfway over the 3 pt line, and when the ref signaled 3, I just couldn't believe it. Poor officiating obviously took away from how great of a game it was, I know Lawrence ended up hitting a game winner, but it never should've gotten to that overtime session. Just a tough way for any teams season to end when it's mired in controversy, but congrats to Lawrence Co on the win, they're always a tough out this time of year.

I am not sure how you do it but I think coaches need one challenge a game where they can go to a camera monitor to review a play like this. Not anything like a foul but plays like this or if a kid was out of bounds or who the ball was off of. One a game and if your right you keep it. Just not sure if this can be done and obviously you can’t to to a fans phone up in the bleachers but a call of that magnitude needs to be able to get it right. Can anyone remember an obvious missed call like this in the regional tournament that directly changed the outcome of a game? Yes I know people can say if Pikeville made all their free throws or whatever but truth is if that call is made right Pikeville is playing tonight
Was the shot a 3? NO. Was this one of the best tournament games in recent memory? YES.
This was one of the best games i’ve watched in a long time. The sad fact of the matter is, it was decided by the referees. Not only the kids but fans deserved for this game to be decided by players. It was a great game but it is a shame that it was lopsided officiating.

Can we get a roll call from Pikeville fans? I think a few haven’t cried about Saturday yet. I don’t want it to get to watching Martin County at Rupp and still be hearing about Pikeville should be there because one call went against them. It wasn’t lopsided. It was 1 call worse than the other bad calls both ways. Take off your blinders. Lawrence got screwed multiple times as well.

I question if anyone on BGR actually watches basketball.....
1. the shot was a 2 which is pikeville wouldve most likely let up anyway if they fouled and gave them free throws, but called a 3 because three obese referees couldnt make it up the court to good position
2.the kid who made said shot literally through it up, no way that was a natural shot
3. Lawerence didnt gert screwed as hard as pikeville did.

That kid made 81 three pointers as an 8th grader starting varsity for a LC team that went to the semis of region. He has a history of making clutch shots for LC. Not shot it as good from 3 this year but is always dangerous.

I’m not hating on Pikeville. There were as many missed calls against Pikeville as against Lawrence. The difference is the timing of the call. Pikeville got one more bad call against them at the worst possible time, but they still left the game in a position to be tied when they had a chance to ice it. That part is on them. They still could’ve played better defense on the final play of OT. Bad calls happen. It’s part of the game. You can even say that’s why they lost.
I just hope we get to the point that we aren’t trying to take anything away from Martin County or whoever else when they win the Region 15 Championship game tomorrow night. And if Lawrence loses tonight, it shouldn’t be a bunch of crying around and trying to throw it in their faces because their kids are kids too. Just like it’s despicable to see adults happy that Pikeville lost. The fans you hate didn’t lose, the kids lost and feel they had it stolen from them. Have some class…. And Pikeville fans, one last time, stop whining about it

I don’t think Pikeville would’ve won the region regardless, I actually thought Lawrence Co. would win the game, just not in the fashion it played out. To say Pikeville gets the better end of the whistle most times is so ridiculous it doesn’t deserve a response. The refs that grew up around the region didn’t become closet Pikeville fans once they became adults. Make it make sense. The hatred is blinding. Also, Wildcat, Pikeville fans can do as they please and there’s nothing you can do about it, you know that right?

me out earlier. I gave credit to the kids from Lawrence because they deserved credit, no buts…. They played great and I have watched their coach do good things with his teams for a few years now. My issue was the officials and no it was not evenly bad or even close. That’s Pikeville’s gripe and they have a good one. No blinders on here. I am not a parent or have any axe to grind. I just watched courtside and it was embarrassingly bad. Lawrence no doubt got a few bad ones but let’s not pretend this was even just because people like to see Pikeville lose. Cheer against them all you want but you should want them to lose fairly. Those kids deserve better. They work hard just like kids from other schools and often harder. That’s why they win. Refs are humans and make mistakes but there were so many bad calls this game it wasn’t an accident. I can list so
many but no one wants to read a post that long and the video of the game is out there. Truly pathetic. They decided the outcome of the game and that should never ever be the case but go off on their fans whining. As far as the winner of the region, I don’t think Pikeville was going to win it anyway and neither will LC but every team should have had an even playing field to try. It is Martin County’s to lose. They have the best team but whoever wins is deserving.

This is so spot on about local officials. Almost every single one went to school at opposing schools. I think 1 is from Pikeville and he calls against them maybe as bad as any. I guess they hated them or wanted to beat them in school and after graduation all of them became Panther fans. Cmon people. I loved beating Pikeville when I played but hating on the kids there now as an adult with no skin in the game is sad and pathetic.

Alright time for a neutral observer to analyze this situation.
1. It was a 2 and everyone at the gym knew it. Replay confirms it was not close. It was a horrendous call that directly impacted the game. Pikeville should have won the game in overtime once they lined up to tip it off again, as players you have to do what it takes even in a situation like this.
2. Why did the 16th region send two fat old guys to officiate in a region tournament? Is there not a better option than two men who physically could not make it up and down the court any better? The man who made the call looked like dusty rhodes in the later stage of life. Can we not get the best of the best officials from every region for these playoff games??
The more hair lost directly correlates to how bad of an official you are. That is universal.
Earlier this year, a high school basketball official was handed a tablet to watch a replay of a fight on the floor and proceeded to use that video replay to eject a player. I argued it the same thing then, why do officials have all the power with no consequences? If an official can actively break NFHS rules in one game and use a replay to eject a player during the game with no consequences, then why can’t they use one to correct a henious call? We leave the results of contests that kids work all their life for at the hands of 3 overweight bald assholes that complain they make almost 100 dollars an hour as supplemental income.

Just like they were when they were speaking their opinions Saturday evening and yesterday. You really thought that was clever didn’t you hahaha.

I'm a 16th guy, and know almost all the area officials personally. And I'll be upfront, that was not a great crew on that game.
However, I can imagine that being the assignor is a TOUGH job because you are dealing with grown men and women that do this more as a side hustle, not their careers or main jobs. So you have to deal with their availability based on their families, jobs, locations, etc. when scheduling for games and tournaments. That being said, there are always going to be games that have a less than par crew. I guess you just have to hope that no controversy or game-costing calls occur. Unfortunately that is exactly what happened.

Regardless of who you were cheering for or who you always cheer against, this really stinks for those kids. Imagine it being your team, you would probably see things differently.

It was bad enough anyway, but it stings more when it’s the last play.

Lol, i cant say Pburg is on the recieving end of anything because they havent been relevent since the 90s, win some games, and try to keep a coach. now that im thinking actually.... recieving end of getting the B2A every year.
I can't argue with Prestonsburg not being relevant in Basketball, but where would Pikeville be if they didn't steal every kid from Pike and Floyd County? People can call me butt hurt, jealous, or a hater, but the truth is the truth. You can't win with your own, you never have and you never will! That's a fact!
