North Laurel 66 Corbin 41
#1
Wow, didn’t see this kind of beatdown coming! What the heck happened here ?

Ouch. OSH getting ready to raise his quill in anger in 3,2,1...popcorn popping...

I think the idea that you cannot shoot in the corbin arena has been debunked for this year. I do not know what gods changed that, but it’s not the case. I have watched 6 games where it has been bombs away for the winning team. Both Harlan Co and Knox shot well. North (jervis) shot extremely well. The 8 girls teams shot amazing. Corbin…. they can’t shoot anywhere. I thought north would win because of davidson. They won because of everything else. What an overall performance by the jags. If they can replicate it, the bears may be on upset alert saturday afternoon. I’ll be cheering for HC, but it’s hard to argue that North isn’t the hottest 13th team in march.

Letter to corbin, if you can’t shoot… you have to rebound. If you can’t rebound, you have to guard. If you can’t guard… well then you are screwed if you are to this point. Corbin is NOT the top of the 13th next season.

I think it was almost obvious what was coming, north was clearly playing the best basketball coming into the region tournament, and it’s not easy to beat a team 3 times, Corbin also wasn’t going to get a 24 more free throws then north at the arena either, a lot of you guys don’t watch much basketball and just read some articles or check in on KHSAA stats which Don’t tell you much

North played one of their best games they’ve played. Everything was clicking for them and Corbin seemed to be struggling in every aspect. It happens. Still proud of the Hounds and look forward to watching them next season. They return a LOT of talent.
#7
Laurel Co OWNS Corbin…..Hounds lose to South in the 50th District Tournament and North ends their season……

Maybe Corbin needs to look at their recruiting coordinator………..

Could this be the last game for Tony…….as the Head Coach of the boys???? Could we see him take over the girls program…..

Could there be an exodus out of CHS

This could be an interesting off season in Hound Town.

I’m sure our resident scratch golfer knew a 25 point win for North was coming after Corbin had beaten them twice already ?? Man that scratch golfer guy must be really smart ??

Corbin is a football town. Always has been, always will be. Looking forward to seeing what Salmons has up his sleeve this season.

Yea bud it’s not hard go to the games during the season and watch, Corbin played north at north and shot 26 free throws to north’s 2 and only beat them by 5 or 6 that’s obviously not going to happen during the region tournament, then obviously going to Corbin and getting a win at their home gym isn’t easy either, north shot lights out during both of their distract tourney games coming I said it after the distract tourneys north is playing the best basketball going into the region tournament, and Corbin lacks a true PG so yea it wasn’t really hard to see that coming, north was aloud to play physical this game not just Corbin and you seen what happened

Didn't hear TP's post game comments but I'd say the word ":grinding" was said at least once. Grinding is over for this season.
#13
To make a long story short, Corbin was just very good tonight anyway.  They got beat by a much better team.

You're not really throwing Coach P under the bus, are you?  LOL

The different officials have made impacts. You definitely will not see many fouls be called throughout the game. Both games were physical and that played into Knox and North. Corbin did not get the corbin whistle they get all year, and HC will have to get through physical guard play. Also, I did notice the officials in both games do not put up with a whiny mouth. I feel like kids in this region are accustomed to being able to hug officials during free throws and plead their case way too often. That is not happening this week at the arena.

The only time it got touchy was when you are trying to foul late, other than that it’s a best team wins mentality from the officials. Through 6 games I have thought there was one bad call and it was in a girls game. I liked how the boys games were called, but it will HURT PINEVILLE. Clay is already putting the football pads on for tomorrow’s game.

Maybe 43 years ago….Boyle County is a football community…. A pale wanna be at best is what Corbin is….no more Tim Short no more region runner up trophy’s.

Watching from the cheap seats in my opinion TP needs a change of scenery. Maybe taking over the girls after Eli graduates is it. don’t think picking up Ellis helped Corbin but rather hurt them as a team. Nothing against Ellis. Just sometimes too much talent is not necessarily always a good thing if the kids can’t gel.

Yeah, I wish he would just go ahead and tell us what is going to happen in the semis Saturday, instead of waiting til it’s over to tell us he knew what was gonna happen. Plus, I could save quite a few dollars by not going since I’d already know.

Ok I’ll tell you north Harlan co will be a dog fight I’d take north by 5 points once again they are playing their best basketball in he post season, and tonight bell co will more then likly come out on too due to the fact of the officiating and south’s offense becomes stagnant because they can get to the free throw line, and clay co will beat pineville

Not at all. Just saying what everyone in Corbin has known and accepted for 100 years. Corbinites live and breathe their Hound football. Basketball...MEH .

Would I be throwing UK's Mark football under the bus  if I said UK was a basketball school? Luke Salmons , had he been a BB coach , would have never uprooted his life and his family's life, to coach BB here. But football...? Different animal, man !!!

What about me? I'm older than Joe Dirt.  Probably watched 1,000 games in 53+ years.  HCS is probably as old, or older, than me. There are some people than here that know their roundball. Granny Bear coach HS ball. I'm sure some others did, as well. Your take is a pretty arrogant one.  I agree, though, Gridiron knows his BB.

North Laurel, Senior showed up for the game, and several other players who had been
figuring it out most of the season. They were firing on all cylinders last night and beat
a team that got a lot of breaks the last two meetings by the Refs. The Elza kid is a gamer
and has made a difference in all aspects of the game. The Rawlings boy is a nice
player and Reed Shepherd's cousin (big guy) although he only had 5 pts, will show up in
these next games - I guarantee it.

Yeah.  What about you?  You are young enough to be my son, technically.  I've coached more games that you've seen.  HCS isn't close to your age.

Now, I only listened to the games and heard about it from some folks who attended.  THEY were okay with the officiating, but I don't think I am.  In a perfect scenario, the games would be called closely to the way they were called during the season.  I don't think it's fair that touch fouls are called all year long, and you get to the tournament and have a throw down.  But that's just me.  I was also told that NL played their best game of the season.  I don't like that because they meet HC next, BUT if I was a NL fan, I would be tickled to death that they were peaking at just the right time.

I knew this would be a great tournament and sad that I can no longer attend.  LOVE high school sports!!!

Arrogant prick response to her, imo.  75 words, 1 comma, 1 big run-on sentence...   A golfer from Laurel County--- color me shocked(NOT!!!) I watched North play at Corbin and certainly was not blown away by their play. I didn't think they looked very good. Last night, however, they obviously played well. I hope they get smashed in the next one.  I was the one who said not to overlook North. Said before the tourney started they would beat Corbin and might upset HC. Hope they go down in flames, though.

I looked at the stats from the regular season game at Corbin and the thing that stood out was how close the stats were except for the rebounding totals, Corbin had 33 and North only had 21. Rebounding was obviously the difference in that game. Below are the shooting stats from the regular season game at Corbin.

Corbin hit 48% on 2 pt FG's and North hit 48%. North shot 38% on 3's and Corbin shot 37%.
Corbin was 13-16 at the Free throw line and North was 12-15.

Maybe Valentine came up with a really good defensive game plan for the Regional game and Corbin struggled because of it, but that wouldn't fit the narrative since everyone has been badmouthing Coach Valentine the entire season and off season. Plus Corbin was up and down all season, especially offensively.

Corbin lacked focus, at times, this season and their "I want itmore than you" meter was lacking. I can't imagine looking at that sad sack, Johnny Crawford, day in and day out, helped much. Tony needs to take a three month cruise with his lovely wife and , on returning, fire all of his "coaches" on the bench and get out there and look for some players who rally care about winning. Lost to Evangel Christian at home, lost to Whitley at home, almost lot to Pineville. Looked flat and uninterested in the region tournament. Not the best of times.

This dude right here is the only person on the website that knows anything about high school basketball

It’s not the entire region that gets touch fouls, just a few schools and or players. That’s what you get when you have so-and-so’s uncle or father in law out there officiating. When you live in a region, and you deal with the same people night in and night out, it’s impossible to be unbiased. This region tournament is the first time these teams have faced off with unbiased situations. Also, it’s probably the first time these officials have seen each kid. That means a connection between them and the players has not occurred. So and so has not been able to hug them and talk sweet nothings in their ear, or complain every call for 2 years, or be a butthead. It’s a clean slate and that’s how it should be. I just wish it was that way in the district too, even though logistically idk if that’s possible.

The only person in my time watching tournament basketball to get a homer call this late in the year was reed. Sorry not sorry but when he committed to UK everybody in the state knew who he was. Sometimes that resulted in him getting a bubble, sometimes that resulted in him getting a target. He never had unbiased officials good or bad.
