Just announced, also candidates for Mr. Basketball.
13th Region: Maddox Huff-Harlan Co.
14th Region: Evin Eversole-Hazard
15th Region: Jaden Stewart-Pike Central
16th Region: Zander Carter-Ashland Blazer
13th, 14th, and 16th don't think those were big surprises, 15th I think most expected Watts to be POTY even tho he has only been here for 1 season, but glad to see Stewart get it. Remember him as a freshman and that incredible run Pike Central made to the Regional Championship, just ran into a juggernaut in Pikeville, but sure has been a great joy watching him play, no player means more to their team than Stewart does to Pike Central.
Congrats to all these great players on these honors, and best of luck heading into the post season!

Shouldn’t matter if they have been here for 1 or 4 years. The award is for the “year” not career. Watts was robbed in my opinion, he is by far the best player in this current region. If Watts is on any other team than Martin county, he wins this award. It’s bias against a winning program.

I agree completely. Watts is the best player, and most exciting player in the region to watch. No offense to Stewart, but this was a terrible decision. Whoever made this selection should be ashamed of themselves.

I would say the difference maker in Watts and Stewart is that Stewart is a more likable player. IMO watts is a little arrogant and makes some poor decisions on the court so this is why I think Stewart got the vote.
I do think Watts is a better player day and dark but you have to be liked by people for them to vote for you.

I have no dog in this fight, have not seen either of them play. However, Stewart certainly has the superior offensive stats in every category. That has to count for something.

The decisions are voted on by that regions coaches. Evidently the Region coaches say Stewart is the better player and as 4 qtrs stated his stats say the same. Now the court of public opinion can say differently but holds zero sway.

all the old heads on BGR see athleticism and immediately think Watts is the second coming of MJ, being athletic gets you realllllllyyyyy far in the 15th region, stewart is a better shooter, more efficient, and has incredible touch around the rim, if it wasnt stewart then its RIGGED.

Congrats to Stewart. I've always been a fan of his.

Watts was robbed you gotta look at team success and the stats he’s still putting up and competition.Stewart is playing against Phelps and belfry while watts is playing JC and Paintsville.

Congrats to Stewart. I feel like him and watts were the 2 best players in the region this year. I just know if anyone watches games or film watts is the runaway favorite. Maybe Stewart is more likable? Maybe coaches have a sore spot for MC. Sure is taboo to have a poor town like Inez have the success we have had in the last 5 years.

Stats usually win this award every year. Like it’s been mentioned more than once already, Stewart had the better averages, averaged a double/double, and is ranked in the top 5 in the state in scoring and top 10 in the state in rebounding. Well deserved.

Stewart does have the better stats but If anyone watches a few games of each of the players you’ll quickly see how much better Watts is than Stewart. Watts makes scoring look easy. Yes he’s the most athletic player in the region (possibly in the last 20 years)so it comes easy for him to rise and score above some of the less athletic teams in the region but even against very athletic teams out of the region he can still get his. I do believe he didn’t win it just off of his attitude and aggressive trash talking he plays with which made voters choose other people. I’m a Paintsville fan and I by no means like Martin County but Watts is the best player in the region hands down.

So if MC schedules the worst of the worst teams in the region watts would average 40.

Stats don’t always tell the full story. I believe you have to judge a player based on their impact. Who truly helps their team the most ? Sometimes, the most talented player can actually hurt their team by being too selfish , focusing on padding their stats instead of playing the game the right way. Give me the kid who’s willing to do whatever it takes to help their team win.

Watts is easily the most athletic player in the region, I don’t think anyone can deny that part. Without Watts, Martin County would still be one of the top teams in the region. Without Stewart, PCC would be one of the worst teams in the region. Just like everyone bitching last year because Aden Barnett won it. Barnett led the region in scoring, and without him, Magoffin would have been one of the worst teams in the region.
