Holiday Tournaments
#31
I know the CFIT has taken a step back to other tournaments in recent years. It used to be second to none. As far as this year i would say the top three players (that i am aware of) are 1) Ryder Akins 2) Blake Burnett 3) Adyn Absher (somerset). The next three would be 4) Eli Pietrowski 5) Ethan Buell 6) Cameron Hall. Dont dog out my list if Little Miami has a kid drop 40 on corbin.

I wanted to hear your top 3 of ALL-TIME to play in the CFIT.  Smile

My Bad.

I can't speak for every year but for the ones Ive seen it would be below. Based off talent and not necessarily numbers or winning the tournament.

1) Greg Buckner (University Heights) Clemson, 10 yr NBA

2) Alvin Sims (Paris) Louisville

3) Deondre Lindsay (Knoxville Catholic) Now at Oak Hill

Im sure I missed some big ones. Oh yeah, William Unseld for Warren central, no their Head coach

You were reading my mind , Dodger. I was getting ready to post what you did. CFIT used to be a Top 5 holiday tourney in the state. Too bad, the powers that be have let it go to the shitter.  What about those good Dixie teams? Didn't they win it, like, two or three years in a row?  From a loaded Knoxville Catholic team  and an undefeated and top ranked John Hardin to Richmond Model and Lynn Camp. Inexcusable. Dorman had some really fine teams come to Corbin. We always had some good squads from South Carolina come to town. Now we get Lynn Camp from cross town. What's up, Tony P.

Went back and checked to make sure it just wasn't everything was better when we were kids thoughts working. Here's the CFIT fields from 1987 to 1990:
87: Paintsville, Spartanburg (SC), Tates Creek, Palmetto (SC), Campbell Co (TN), Madison Central, Corbin, Harlan
88: Barbourville, Wayne Co, Corbin, Campbell Co (TN), Rowan Co, Rockingham (NC), Madison Central, Gaffney (SC), Somerset, Warren Central
89: Pulaski Co, Bowling Green, Corbin, Warren Cent, McCreary Central, Somerset, Conway (SC), Jellico
90: Corbin, Hazard, Laurel, Knox Central, Oak Ridge (TN), Warren Cent, University Heights, Middlesboro

Not sure I could cut it down to three players, but a few beasts from that era of the tournament:
Darren Allaway, UHA (played four years at Stanford and started last two)
Keith Adkins, Paintsville (played at Notre Dame and Morehead)
Titus Shelton, Dorman (really good player at ETSU)
Jerry Pelphrey, Paintsville (sixth man on a couple of Southern Conference champs at ETSU)
Cedric Gumm, Warren Central (all-OVC at Murray)
William Unseld, Warren Central (played at South Carolina and heckuva coach)
Dameyon Fishback, Greenwood (solid at Auburn and SEC Network analyst today)
Kermit Marlow, Campbell County (the Richie Farmer of East Tennessee basketball during those days, NAIA all-american, scored over 60 as college player at Lee (TN).
Jimmy John Owens, Wayne County (not sure if he played in college, but what a high school player)

Forgot how awesome it was to catch those games during Christmas break back in the day.

90: Corbin, Hazard, Laurel, Knox Cent, Oak Ridge (TN), Warren Central, University Heights, Middlesboro

Paintsville went 3-0 in the Carolina Invitational in Charleston, SC.

Great showing by the Tigers and definitely gaining some momentum heading into the new year as the district schedule looms.

Got beat in overtime in the 3rd. If they have spriggs they win the game.
