Kentucky vs. Colgate 12/11
#1
Tip-off set for 8 tomorrow night from Rupp on ESPN2.

Been a rough go for the Toothpaste Raiders, as they're record so far this season is 2-8, losers of their last 4 in a row.

Kentucky coming off a big time comeback win over Gonzaga, should take care of business. Of course, Kerr is out for at least 2 months with that jones fracture, haven't seen in updates on Butler, but this may be the type of game you sit him out, or maybe get him some run to get some cardio in if anything else.

I'm interested to see how much playing time Travis Perry gets in this game with the injury to Kerr. Seemed like Pope was quick to go to Perry against Gonzaga and he seemed to hold his own with the way he moved on the court. I'd selfishly love seeing Mr. Basketball get some big minutes going forward with the injuries we got right now.

If it was Crest, I would worry some. But Colgate doesn't concern me in the least. Bet their players have nice teeth, though.

Oh boy!!! I get ESPN2!!

I'd give the Butler another day off,(with pay, of course).

Wildcats handle this easy. I’d like to see Travis Perry get some more playing time in this one with Kerr out. I’d rest Butler.

Much needed game before the UofL game. Need to let Butler rest the ankle and we need to work Perry in more to see if he can help the void of losing Kerr. Not sure Chandler is the answer right now either. The five that finished the game against Gonzaga played really well but we are going to need Perry, Chandler, and wishful thinking Noah work in to give Robinson and Brea a break. This is the game to work them in to get reps and see how it goes.

Of course I have all the faith in Pope in how he is handling things. I am sure he has a plan.

I was confused when I seen Colgate on the schedule.  How on earth would we play a basketball game vs toothpaste?

Then I thought they were selling tickets to Rupp,  to watch the Cat's brush their teeth.  I know proper dental hygiene is important,  but who wants to buy tickets to see a team brushing their teeth,  in the middle of the court. Do that in the locker room before or after the game  Wink Big Grin

In all seriousness,  I'm aware of this Colgate team.  They made the NCAA tournament last year.  As mentioned above,  they've had a rough start to the season so far.  They did only lose to Syracuse by 2 points,  earlier in the year.  Which idk how good Syracuse is this year,  haven't heard anything about them yet.

The Cat's should roll in this one.  By the time this one's over,  Colgate be feeling like,  they've been brushed,  flossed,  gargled and spit out,  as they exit Rupp  Wink

Colgate gonna have some cavities to deal with after this one. Might even need a root canal.

Colgate has actually been in the NCAA tournament five times in a row (with the COVID year being thrown out) so normally this would have been a decent matchup. Not so much this year though. Cats should breeze by 20+.

I would be thrilled to see the Kentucky boys get some PT!!!!

Colgate making the NCAA tournament 5 years in a row is definitely impressive.
I don't think the Cat's have any problem in this one. I'd seen where Colgate had played Syracuse tough earlier in the year.  I went and looked into Syracuse a little.  They're like 4-4 on the year,  something like that.  So this isn't the Syracuse from years back that was a beast from the big east,  even won a National Title.

Agreed,  I'd like to see the KY boy's get some significant minutes in this one.  I believe they just might.  Pope is smart and knows we'll need those guys going forward in the season.  So I believe he'll try to get them as much experience as possible.

Looks like Butler has been day-to-day, got some work in but wasn't a full participant in practice yesterday. It'll be a surprise if he plays, best for him to sit out this one and rest the ankle. Give Perry, Noah, and Chandler to get some valuable minutes, also experiment more with Robinson running the 1.

That's what I'm hoping for, as well.  Hope the T 'n T boys(Travis and Trent)  have good games. This would be a good time to get them some needed game minutes Play them , Mark !!!

I agree with everything you said.

This is what I'm wondering if Pope tries to give him some more reps at the point with how well he played down the stretch against Zaga.  Robinson had been a non-factor all year at the 2 guard spot and in this game having the ball in his hands seemed to give him more confidence and let him just make things happen.  I would like to see some more of him at point.

Good point, Spudster. I think that game did wonders for the young man's confidence. He really played well with the ball in his hands more. I would give him some more game minutes at point. We get blown out of the Gonzaga game if Robi' hadn't have stepped in and been a star running the point.

I've not been watching this one yet.  Looks like I'm way off on my prediction, of us having a easy time so far.

Then I'm blaming her for this travesty at halftime. Cats up by 2 points over these fine scholars but horrible ballplayers.

If KY loses this game to one of the worst teams in America, I swear to Almighty Thor that I will  quit BGR TONIGHT!!! I'm out of here for good if UK loses this game.

15 minutes left.KY down 1 pt to one of the nation's worst teams. In only his 10th game will Pope suffer the worst loss in the long, storied history of KY basketball? Possibly only 15 minutes left in Old School's BGR posting history.

A lot of BGR members  have suddenly become Colgate fans.

Pope survives the worst embarrassment in UK history and Old School lives to post another damn day.

Hat's off to Colgate,  tough team,  fought till the end.  Their record doesn't do them justice.  If they play their conference games like they did tonight,  they'll be tough to beat.

UK gets the win,  good game for the Cat's,  we took Colgates best shot,  comes with the name on our jersey's.  I only watched the last five minutes of this one,  so I didn't see much.

Now to focus on UofL up next,  for the KY College state championship!

Glad you're not leaving OSH!  I just learned how to post memes,  we can have a lot of fun with that  Wink

This game bothers me more than the loss to Clemson.

I know it's a win, but Colgate was the team with grit and fight last night. I think we played on their level and I don't like playing down.

I did love to see the Kentucky boys gets some PT though!!

I feel this was expected somewhat. Maybe not as close, but after a big win and just before the Louisville game. Plus with injuries to Butler and Kerr it was clear Pope was trying to experiment to cover those. Butler should be back Saturday. Jumped up 17-0 and then turned off the jets it seemed. Was hard for them to get it back going, especially once Colgate started hitting shots.

On a side note thought out of Perry, Noah, and Chandler, Noah looked the best of the three. Gonna need at least one of them to pick up some minutes with Kerr out.

Noah's my favorite of those,  probably because I've seen him play a lot. I think back to the Corbin-HC regular season game last season. Corbin had made a huge comeback from a double digit deficit to take a two point lead with two minutes remaining. The place was electric. Then Trent takes over. Puts the team on his shoulders. Scores something like 10 of the last 12 points for the Bears. Puts his head down and just goes to work. Doesn't argue with referees, doesn't taunt the opposition, doesn't draw attention to himself. Just plays. And wins... Love him.

Mark Pope cut down the nets,  National Champs as a player.  And nows the time to get out a pen and a piece of paper,  because baby,  you'll want to write this down.  Years down the road you'll look back and be like,  who was that big goof that called this? You'll have your note's with king kong and today's date written on them.  Also on the note's will be a phrase/quote that reads,  "Mark Pope will be cutting down the nets again, as National Champion, this time as head coach of the Cat's!"

The NCAA might as well go ahead and engrave a National Championship trophy for the Cat's.  Have everything ready,  except for the one thing in question? The year,  that remains to be determined  Wink

PS: I'm totally fine if this doesn't happen,  I'm just having some fun and enjoying the ride!

Pope may very well win one when all is said and done. Might not be this season but I think he has a good chance of getting one here. He has all the tools. The only thing that worried me was his ability to get the big time blue chip recruits to come play for him. I'm no longer worried about that. I think guys will want to play for him and play in this fun offense.

Btw, did anyone see where the Hall of Famer got a big win over #14 Michigan the other night. The guy can still win ball games. Probably will have over a 1,000 wins by the time he's through. He deserves a standing ovation when he comes back to town on Feb 1.

Agree with what you said about Pope getting blue chip recruits,  don't think he'll have a problem with that.

I watched the last of the Arkansas vs Michigan game.  Like UKs comeback vs Gonzaga,  Arkansas came back from a pretty good deceit to beat Michigan.  The SEC teams have got some serious fight in them this year.

I'm having to much fun with this,  going to take it easy for a bit  Wink
