His name was Brett Denton. Best back I’ve ever seen at Raceland. Nobody we’ve had since compares.
He also had a pretty good counterpart too. 2008 the year I wanted that Hazard/Raceland matchup. Crazy how deep Class 1A was back then.

It used to rotate but I don’t think it has in many years.

If what I am hearing is correct, Sayre is 100% stacking 8 in the box against Racelands 3 WR set and playing Cover 0, and on the I-formation and T sets and playing a 6-2. They have zero fear of being beat in the passing game. We will see if this is true, but parents discussing what went on at practice on social media is not a good thing.

Yeah Raceland out scored them 49-0. The Rams will be fine

Sayre 26. Rams 6, raceland blows another state championship. Good run for the rams though.
12-03-2024, 01:33 PM
I don’t think the rams have a chance in this one. Raceland can’t pass the ball and their run game is mediocre. On the defensive side raceland can stop Penningtons pass game mixed in with the run game sayre has

I agree, honestly at this point its getting sad. They’re about to blow another chance at gold. At this point I think all of the small 16th region schools need to consolidate because Raceland can’t compete by theirselves. Sayre will run through Raceland like a knife through hot butter. The clock and buses will be running by the 3rd quarter.

Social media posts by what are supposedly parents. Could be fake, but I'm leaning toward it not being fake.

Pikeville at 100% beats everybody in class A but that wasn’t the case.

Saying Raceland can’t pass the ball is a dumb statement to make. Raceland is a very run heavy team but the passing game is very capable as well with Waller having 1400 yards on the season. The real question is will Raceland use all of their offensive weapons or play it safe and stick with the run.

Sayre’s style of football won’t match well with this Raceland defense. Letting up only 20 points in 4 playoff games. Mind you those 20 points were scored late in the first two rounds. If the Rams play their game and keep the ball out of the Spartans hands, Sayre will have a hard time winning this football game.

Raceland CAN pass, but history tells us they will be 82% run heavy with some crazy trick pass play at some point in the game.
I would absolutely love to see Raceland come out and pass early to set up the run. It would be completely unexpected.

Most of the comments that were shown to me were the parents saying they expect Stiltner back and they are prepping for him to get the majority of the workload. They don't feel any of our receivers can win 1 on 1 matchups against their corners. They feel like scoring will be a struggle but if they can put up 14 points they feel they can win, and that we have a ultra conservative offense. I agree we will see Friday. I have a feeling Sayre will come out throwing everything at us but the kitchen sink. Each teams first two drives will dicate how the game goes I believe.

In a perfect world, Raceland runs the ball over and over again while Sayre throws the ball over and over again. IF this is true, it would come down to defensive stops. On the defensive side of the ball Sayre has proven to be the best defense other than Pikeville (IMO) in 1a. Therefore, Sayre gets their first taste of jewelry while Ramland goes home empty handed once more.

Racelands JV could play a .500 record against Sayres schedule. Not saying the Spartans defense isn’t good, bc they contained Pikeville very well. But it’s hard for me to put them in the “elite” level as a defense against the competition they played.

Sayre regular Opponents:
(43-68)
Raceland regular season opponents:
(80-46)
This is the exact reason people are still doubting Sayre. They chase games that are stat padders. No one will take them seriously until they quit playing these single A schools and start scheduling some competition.

I sure hope Raceland wins. If not, there’s a lot of posts that aren’t going to age very well.

Hey I will eat my crow if I am wrong. I’ve done it before. Been wrong…just ask my wife lol that being said….
Sayre has to be able to stop a stable of RBs for 4 quarters. They can load the box. That’s what the last three teams did. It worked for KCD for 2 1/2 quarters. Then the fact that we had 4 kids playing one way upfront defensively and 5-7 kids playing one way upfront on the OL began to cause issues. Couple that with having 3 WRs that don’t play defense unless they are needed (btw I expect to see them get time Friday). But Racelands depth is where the advantage lies.
Sayre will have to hit big plays early to win the game. Raceland isn’t coming into the game looking for a shoot out. But imo, they can do just that if need be. But if this game is low scoring in the first half, Raceland will win by 2-3 scores. Their depth and physicality just keeps going and going. I said at the beginning of the year this was the fastest, most athletic, and best in shape team that I had seen at Raceland in a good while. Even the big kids move well and there’s lots of them. I’ve watched a lot of Sayre games now and they are lacking depth, imo.

The question I ask in this matchup is, how many is Raceland gonna bringing every play? It seems like they bring 4-6 players depending on the down. Maybe a 3 man rush but n 3rd and forever.
Another question is if Raceland wins the toss are they gonna choose to defer or take the rock.

Finally….back to talking actual football. And that to me is a very good topic of conversation. The toss.
I’m on the fence with it. I’d like to say defer. Our defense hasn’t given up many points and have rarely seen a 1A school cross into plus territory. So getting that initial stop has set the tone. That being said, I expect Sayre to come in fired up with something to prove, so I would also heavily consider taking the ball and methodically marching down the field and eat up the clock. But that possession has to come away with points.
I feel like the defer is a bigger thing though. Takes the pressure off of a young QB, puts the pressure on Sayre to do something early. If it’s me, I kick to them, then bracket Coffman and play man elsewhere. I’m not sure Coffman has played against a corner as physical as McKee.
Imo, Another big match up that favors the Rams is Sammons or Headley against Sayre’s LT. Not sure he has seen that type of quickness off the edge. Raceland hasn’t needed to bring a lot of outside pressure because those two have done so good doing it themselves. I’m just ready for Friday to get here!!!

Would you say Raceland is better defensively than they are at running the ball?
