I think it’s a possibility. Maybe he’ll hold out to see if French steps down at his Alma mater Middlesboro?

OR, maybe the OC job at Pikeville?

Hearing that the guy to look at is Brian Melvin. Teaches at Paintsville High and was the defensive coordinator the year they won state. Has took the past few years off of coaching high school and coached elementary

From what I’m hearing Floyd Central

any names floating around or being told or said frontrunners for the job

Just not real sure how attractive this job is anymore. You have a talented 2027 class (if it stays together), but they’re not competing with Hazard or Pikeville. They just don’t have enough. Feeder program hasn’t been great. So you’re basically stuck in 3rd place in your district. Johnson Central is going to open the doors to a brand new state of the art high school in a few years, so you have to wonder how much that will affect Paintsville schools future as well.

I’ll be interested to see how this unfolds.

Hazard was literally just at the bottom of the barrel last season and weren’t much better the couple of seasons before that. They hired a good coach and they exceeded everyone’s expectations, just like Prestonsburg did this year. There are a bunch of kids roaming the halls at Paintsville HS could make a big difference if they came back out for football. The biggest thing for Paintsville right now is hiring someone that can keep the kids that are thinking about leaving here. Start there, then get those kids outta the hallways.

If rumors are true it’s a two horse race for the position and the hire of either puts Paintsville right back in the fight at the top. I’d worry about keeping my coach before poking at another program(s).

Melvin being the next head coach has been the rumor going around for 2 years. We’ll see what happens. I’m interested to see who all applies for the job.

You have to believe that the current leader for the job right out of the gate has to be Scotty McCoy. He has head coaching experience, he’s currently on the JC staff, and his dad Chester was just hired as the high school principal.

Hopefully things would go better than his stint on the hill. Lost all interest in football during that time up there and really don't know if that was even close to entirely being on him, but has a good ground work at Paintsville and the JC offense put up big numbers at times this year. Definitely interesting timing.

I’ve heard his name thrown around some, but I’ve also heard that Scotty has no interest in being a head coach again.

Heard his name along with another candidate mentioned would be ideal.  Melvin being in the school system, experience, and connection to the players would make him the better fit moving forward.

Coaching any sports these days takes a lot out of you. It’s gonna keep getting harder and harder for class A schools to attract good coaches. Most ClassA schools just don’t offer the resources that larger schools offer. Best of luck to Paintsville in finding a good coach and having a speedy recovery back to the top of class A football. The smallest class in Kentucky desperately needs more quality teams .

Nepotism is not a things Paintsville seem to care about. Everyone there is family of someone It is a web : Husband's, wives , moms , Daughters. They are all kin to one another. Need to get someone in there that will convince Johnson to stay. If not the program for the next 2 years is non existence

I’ll throw my 2 cents into the discussion.

These are just my thoughts and zero inside information, for now.

1. Call and make Chirico say no. He will say no, but you have to make that call.
2. Daniel Pugh- OC for Chirico a few years including 2020 state title. Paintsville grad and knows the landscape. He’s been out of coaching for a few years and probably doesn’t have time to do it.
3. Brian Melvin, in the school system and Paintsville grad. DC for Chirico for several years. This allows for an assistant to get a teaching position with Hoskins leaving.
4. Jordan Ray- current OC at GRC for, you guessed it , Chirico.

Other: Not many credible options remain. Hoskins leaving does open a teaching position.

This position is still a good job to have. New playing surface, adequate fan support, and tradition. Plus, in Class A there’s at the most 3 other schools that can win a title any given year.

In a dream world Chirico returns and all of the above are on the staff- and yes I know, that is not realistic.

Agree with this. He will certainly be one of the finalists.

Feel like if they wanted Melivn they would have hired him over Hoskins the first time around but very well could be. I don't see many knocking on the door wanting the job .

From someone who doesn’t know anything about the program. I don’t think Trevor had a teaching job at Paintsville this year. Could totally be wrong though.

He was a teacher employed by Paintsville to teach this school year?

I heard that Brad Allen from Pikeville was wanting to move out, says the team doesn’t value his opinions and he’s tired of the disrespect.

To Clear everything up. Trevor Hoskins had a job at the school last season but this past season they had no room for him at the school and he didn’t have a job so therefore he was not getting paid to coach or anything. He needed to go somewhere that offered him money.

Brad Allen would be a great choice!
