The Electoral College
#1
I wanted to be specific about the electoral college, so I copied and pasted this definition:

"The number of electoral votes exercised by each state is equal to that state's congressional delegation which is the number of Senators (two) plus the number of Representatives for that state. Each state appoints electors using legal procedures determined by its legislature. Federal office holders, including senators and representatives, cannot be electors."

After most Presidential elections, the losing party will complain that the official should be elected by popular vote and not determined by the electoral college.  Rosie O'Donnell went on her X account and ranted that this election should be determined by popular vote.  Evidently she didn't realize that Trump won both the electoral votes AND popular vote.

I've heard/read some compelling reasons for both sides of the argument.  Is the electoral college antiquated, or does it offer a better representation of the popular vote?

What are your opinions?

The Electoral College forces candidates to spend time campaigning outside of big media markets. If candidates were elected on the basis of the national popular vote, then incumbents would spend more money funding projects in states on the coasts than in the flyover states.

IMO, it is stupid for people living in the interior states to support abolishing the Electoral College. I also support the EC because it was a factor in convincing small colonies to unite with large colonies to form this nation. The founders feared that large states would dominate small states and exploit them for their own benefit. That is exactly what would happen if the EC were abolished today.

There are no blue states anyway. Just 15-20 big blue cities that are in various stages of becoming shitholes trying to tell the rest of the country what's best for them.

Trump has shown the Republican Party the blueprint for turning blue states red. After he outlaws sanctuary cities and begins addressing problems such as homelessness and violent crime in large cities run by liberal Democrats, it will be very hard for Democrats to regain control of Congress.

I suggest that Trump's first cleanup target should be New York City. I think that he will find Mayor Eric Adams to be a willing ally. If he can work with NYC Democrats to cleanup our largest city, other major cities will follow.

Most of rural America is, using Jet's verbiage, a sh!thole of racist, misogynist, homophobic, xenophobic, transphobic, fascist, uneducated, redneck, hillbillies. I'm for going to the popular vote to keep these hillbillies from cutting their own throats by continuing to vote against their own self-interests. Someone has to look out for these poor people, so it might as well be Old School. Nix the EC. :)

We are all well aware of the low opinion that you hold of Corbin and the surrounding area. My advice is that you move, if you can find any town that will still welcome people of your ilk. You are part of a shrinking minority of America-haters.

Quotes from Trump concerning the Electoral College.  Has he forgotten that Democrats would prefer the Popular Vote being used?  Someone is confused. :s

President-elect Donald Trump took to his Truth Social platform on Sunday night and declared that Democrats were “fighting hard” to make all future presidential elections based “exclusively” on the Electoral College.

“The Democrats are fighting hard to get rid of the Popular Vote in future Elections,” he wrote. “They want all future Presidential Elections to be based exclusively on the Electoral College!”

While some decided to take Trump literally and felt he was showing signs of “dementia” by “falsely suggesting” the elections aren’t currently based on the Electoral College, others took the opportunity to note that Trump’s “only consistent position is whatever electoral method he thinks is more likely to [produce] a Republican is the one he supports.”

Indeed, prior to his victory over Hillary Clinton in 2016, Trump claimed that the Electoral College is a “disaster for a democracy.” However, after gaining more electoral votes than Clinton despite losing to her by nearly 3 million in the popular vote, Trump changed his tune. “The Electoral College is actually genius in that it brings all states, including the smaller ones, into play,” he tweeted at the time. “Campaigning is much different!”
