Belfry vs Rockcastle County
#1
Rockcastle County travels to Pond Creek next Friday night. Thoughts? When is the last time these 2 played? Rockcastle is good. 10-1 with only loss to Bell 14-3. This could be a very competitive game like the Letcher game was. I will take Belfry 35-20

Belfry

Getting started early.on this thread i see?!?!
Pond creek has got to be the hardest turf in the state to play a second round game at!! Rockcastle could keep it close tho.
I believe the strength of the regular season schedule is gonna reflect the outcome of this game!! Belfry 35 Rock 21

last meeting was the 92 pike county bowl and belfry won
i think rockcastle wins on friday night and ends belfry's season in the 2nd round again..... havent been playing good ball

Looks like Rock will be coming to pond creek next week. Will be a good matchup. Rock has the defense that I believe can match up good against Belfry. I don’t expect Belfry to score 35 on Rock defense. We are only allowing 13 points per game. Belfry will score less than 28 the question is how good is Belfry defense ? Rock has total defense in top 10 in 3A and leads the state in sacks per game in all classes. Right now Rock offense is finally clicking and playing good together. I will take the upset and pick Rock.

Rock 27
Belfry 20

I second this.

This one will be interesting to say the least. Few things that will come in to play:

Will Belfry get their best defensive player back by Friday?

Will the vaunted Rock defense be able to control the LOS.?

Can Belfry get their passing game back on track?

How will Rock deal with Pirates 3 headed monster in the backfield ?

Can Rock expose Belfry’s defensive issues in the passing game?

Can Belfry’s defense get 3rd down stops?

This game will produce a mixture of yes and no answers come next Friday. Turnovers and Penalties will…as always… play a role ….. but… in the end….i do believe Belfry’s RUN game will be the deciding factor.

When properly executed…as we’ve seen over the past couple of weeks….their run game is beautiful ….and has the ability to suck the life right out of the best defense.

Belfry 35 Rock 24.

Rock will be a good opponent and this should be a great second round matchup. Belfry has been winning without playing their best ball. I think Belfry plays their best game of the year. Big Red 35-14.

Belfry big

Belfry 49
Rockcastle County 13

Belfry in a close one.

Rock has holes in that defense that Bell county exposed. Dudley was able to find big running lanes and move the ball in the air. That was the only game I got to see of rock in person, but you cannot deny their ability to force turnovers. Two interceptions and one fumble all in the red zone kept the bell game close, it’s very possible they do the same thing this week. If Belfry is turnover free, I do not see them being able to be upset this week. I have to say tho, the pirates usually play their best football in october and november. They have not done that so far. I do not know how powell county and the pirates were in a close game at the half. That was one of the worst teams i’ve seen on log mountain in the playoffs. Belfry needs to find it by friday cause this is the best team they have faced since Pikeville at least.

Rock may very well win this game because Belfry has played erratic to say the least especially the defense but to brag about Rocks defense being in the top ten in 3A with their schedule they should be #1
#13
I like what Rock is doing, but on the road I’ll take Belfry 35-28.
Would not be surprised if this score was flipped.

Belfry 27 Rockcastle 8

Belfry and they have a chance to win 3A this year if they can get stops

This is where Rockcastle's creampuff schedule will show. They played two teams that survived the first round of the playoffs. One was Paris, who played another Rockcastle opponent in Frankfort, so one had to advance. Belfry, meanwhile, faced 7 opponents that are playing this week.

The Rockets defensive numbers have come against some really bad teams. Bell County rushed for 335 yards against Rock, they just didn't finish drives. Playing at Belfry in November isn't like playing Pineville, Paris, and Frankfort.

Pirates grind it out 35-14.

Some interesting stats to say the least.  Rock cannot give up that kind of ground game to Belfry and expect to leave Pond Creek with a W.

It’s just turnovers turnovers and more turnovers. Hell the first play from scrimmage for bell county was a 75 yard run where the ball was stripped on the 1 yd line. If bell played clean, it was a blow out. Bell had over 400 yds of total offense, rock had 161 yds. Same with paris, forced 3 turnovers and blocked a punt to squeeze by 13-12.
But you have to give credit they went out and FORCED the turnovers, which is a crucial aspect of the game especially when the offense is based on the pitch man or option reads. One big play can flip a game, or at least keep it in shouting distance.

Word has it that Rock will bring a good crowd to Pond Creek and they have already talked with the AD about visitor seating. Anyone from Rock know how they normally travel to a big game like this?

This will be a tough one. Rock has a shot but will have to put the ball in the air. They have done a decent job at that the last couple weeks. We have the athletes if we can get it to them. Looking forward to this one

Long bus ride. Belfry by two scores.

This is just one example but I’d love to be in a crowd like this again Friday night. Games like this were special. The players deserve it. Ashland 2019 is the last what I would call big time crowd for a playoff game at Belfry I can remember. This is going to be a good game. It will not be a first half running clock. Get out and support this team. I think they are the best team we’ve had in a few years and with a win you probably get Lloyd Memorial at home next week and I think all Belfry fans know what happened and what that game meant last time we played them.

This is the best atmosphere at Haywood Stadium since it opened in 2005.  What a game that was.  We need to re create that on Friday night for sure.  A 100 yard tunnel is planned and it is gonna be a wild night on Pond Creek.

Would love to find the full video of that game and show the team what the stadium should be and recreate that atmosphere. The fans truly made an impact in the outcome of that game. Even the announcer Nathan Varney was jacked up for that one

I believe this will be a similar exit for Rockcastle like last year vs Lexington Catholic. Stats and numbers look good on paper but then got matched up against a better team and can't keep up.

Belfry - 42
Rockcastle - 14
