Playoff Matchups
#1
With district play completed, what are the first round playoff matchups and likely 2nd round games you’re looking forward to seeing? Belfry will host Knox first round game and likely get Rockcastle at home round 2. Martin County at Shelby Valley and Betsy Layne at Prestonsburg are 2 likely 2nd round games too. Johnson Central will likely be at Cov Cath round 2.

Scott county at cooper round 2 will be an insane matchup. Whoever wins probably takes 5A. Scott county will be getting their star player back for the playoffs and we all know the talent cooper has.

the two teams have met in the playoffs two years in a row.

in 2022 Scott county was #2 in 5A and handled cooper 56-20 in the first round. Scott county would end up losing in a huge upset to southwestern 23-22 a couple games later.

2023 Cooper went on the road once again in the second round and was able to run the score up on a rebuilding cardinals defense and won the game 49-27. That cooper team went on to compete for a state title but fell short against bowling green.

this season both teams have the scariest offenses in their class. Cooper runs an air raid with a top QB in the state along with a 4 ⭐️ to catch the ball and other huge weapons, while Scott county runs a wing T offesne with some of the best backs in KY that a team like Boyle couldn’t figure out.

This game could easily be the Kroger matchup but they will once again meet early in the playoffs due to being sister districted.

Highlands @ Woodford  2nd round

Scott Co @ Cooper.  2nd round
#4
Like everyone has listed above the best 5 game matchups to me would come in the 2nd round and they would be

5A-Cooper vs Scott county
5A-Highlands vs Woodford
4A- Johnson Central vs Cov Cath
3A-Rock vs Belfry
2A-Betsy vs Prestonsburg

Any of those 5 games could see going either way
#5
Terrible match up for JC. Cov Cath seems to really understand their offense. On the flip side JC really struggles to defend Cov Cath.
#6
If all goes as chalked, Round 3 in 4A looks to be Cov Cath/Boyle and Corbin/Ashland.

You think Scott County is one of the two best teams in 5A?

It’s close we haven’t seen the fully healthy team play a game yet with their navy commit on the field. I’d say cooper is the clear #1 but their defense is questionable. BG, South Warren, Scott county, and highlands are all contenders to win state and Wofo/Owensboro have a fighting chance as well

What’s bell county third round look like if they make that far lol

That remains to be determined. If RPI stays the same as it is right now then basically Bell and Rock have flipped paths from last year. Round 2 Bell will be at home playing Lawerence most likely and that is who Rock played last year. Last year Bell went to Belfry this year Rock does. You guys beat Belfry so that ended up sending Lex Catholic to us even tho we should have got the lower seeded team since we beat  Bell but we didn’t instead we got Catholic. So if Rock beats Belfry then Lexington Catholic will come to Bell and we will get hopefully a better draw like Bell did last year. However that could change if catholic is able to jump Llyod memorial but I believe they are to far down to make that big of a jump but we will see. If Belfry beats Rock then Bell will get Lloyd and Belfry will get Catholic if everything goes chalk a lot of options available for how the road goes but either way the path in the East should be interesting.

Sorry, I am not being critical, but this is way off.  Let's say the final 4 in the East are as you say in this example Bell, Belfry Lloyd and Lex Cath.  If Belfry stays in front of Lloyd after this week's games then it would be 1. Bell 2. Belfry 3. Lloyd 4. Lex Cath. So that would put Bell hosting Lex Cath and Belfry hosting Lloyd in the third round.  The big difference in this year and last year is that Lex Cath is way down in the RPI.  Last year, they were in front of Lloyd.  This would obviously change if Rock were to beat Belfry in the second round. Also, Russell or East Carter could have a say in this as well.

Scott county ran for over 300 when they played Boyle. I’d argue if quisenberry and the driver weren’t clutch on the 4 or 5 4th downs Boyle had, Scott county wins the game. With a minute left in the first half it was 21-19. Boyle offesne was able to do what they wanted using all 4 downs, but Boyle’s defense did not have a great night. There was 4 minutes where Boyle was dominant which put the game away.

the third round will be Bell vs lex catholic pretty much regardless bc even with catholic wining Friday i don’t think they can jump ahead of Lloyd in RPi they are to far down maybe they do but I don’t see it.

Pretty sure Bell will be the 1 seed  Belfry and LLoyd will be 2 and 3 and Bell would get Catholic who would be 4.
